wRachel Altfeld, the regional religious andcultural vice president of the North AmericanFederation of Temple Youth-Eisendrath Interna-tional Exchange, was an exchange student in Israelfor a semester. At USJ, she served on the yearbookstaff and was a National Honor Society member.Rachel will attend the University of Arizona.

w Sidney Anthony, IV, an Eagle Scout, plansto attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.Sy was a National Honor Society member andHead of School Scholar. He was also a four-yearmember of the football team and attended the Na-tional Youth Leadership Conference in Washing-ton, D.C. his junior year.

wKarrington Atkinswill attend the Univer-sity of New England. She was a member of the Na-tional Honor Society and the Science NationalHonor Society. She served as historian for the Na-tional Art Honor Society and was PhotographyClub president.

wThomas Ballard, IV, played football forthree years and was a member of the NationalHonor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the ScienceNational Honor Society. Thomas will attend UTKnoxville.

wVarsha Balram transferred to UniversitySchool of Jackson her junior year. She will attendTennessee Tech University and plans to major inbio-molecular engineering.

wWeston Barrix played varsity golf for fouryears and was a member of Key Club, Film Club,and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He will at-tend the University of Tennessee at Martin.

wAngad Singh Bindra, an AP Scholar, will at-tend Washington University at St. Louis. He was aBausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award recip-ient and attended the Governor’s School for Sci-entific Models and Data Analysis. He placed ninthin the state at the TMTA Geometry competition.

wAdam Bolingwas a four-year member ofthe football team and was selected for the All-State team by the Tennessee Sports Writers As-sociation. He was selected as the Division IIAWest Co-Offensive Line MVP and the 2010District IIA West Offensive Lineman of theYear. Adam will attend Bethel University wherehe will play football.

wAndrew Boscowas a three-year SpanishClub member and plans to attend the Univer-sity of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

wDrew Brantleywas chaplain of both theTri-M Honor Society and Photography Club.He participated in spring and fall musicals andreceived the Rising Senior Award in Theatre.Drew was selected to the All-Northwest Ten-nessee Honor Choir four years and the All-StateChoir two years. He will attend Rockford Col-lege in Illinois.

wWestin Brantleywas a member of the2011 state runner-up varsity football team. Hewas also a member of Operation Smile Cluband a three-year member of the track team. Heis undecided about his college choice.

wWilliam Buckley,who was cast in the roleof Count Malachi in USJ’s production of HappyDays, was a two-year Concert Choir member andwas selected to perform with the Tennessee All-Northwest High School Honor Choir three years.He was also a member of the football team threeyears. Will plans to attend UT Chattanooga.

wThomas Butler, IV, an Eagle Scout and BoysState delegate, was a member of the NationalHonor Society, Spanish National Honor Society,and Science National Honor Society. A four-yearHomecoming representative, he played four yearsof football and earned the All-Region HonorableMention Award twice. Thomas will attend UTKnoxville.

w Jonathan Cain played four years of varsityfootball, was named to the All-District and All-West Tennessee teams, and voted senior classHomecoming representative. Jonathan was a Con-cert Choir member and was selected for the All-Northwest Tennessee Honor Choir three times.He was also a member of the National Honor So-ciety, Science National Honor Society, and MuAlpha Theta. He will attend UT Knoxville.

wNicholas Camp, a class officer and a mem-ber of the National Honor Society and NationalEnglish Honor Society, received an academic ex-cellence award in Advanced Placement U.S. His-tory. Nick will attend Northwestern University in

Chicago, Illinois.

The 103 members of USJ’s Class of 2012 are

attending 36 colleges across the country. A

large number of the students received academic,

leadership, fine arts, and/or athletic scholarships.

The College Board selected five students for

National Merit honors; two of them were named

National Achievement finalists. Eight members of

the class were named AP Scholars for scores they

received on their Advanced Placement tests.

The top quintile in the class had an average

ACT score of 30.5, the class average ACT score

was 26.2.

is Salutatorian, and Chloe Meriwether is

Essayist.

wCourtney Campbell, a member of the Na-tional Honor Society and the National Art HonorSociety, was active in Key Club, SADD Club, andOperation Smile Club. She will attend UT Martinand major in nursing.

wFrancis Chandler, a four-year tennis player,was a member of the National Honor Society, Na-tional Art Honor Society, National SpanishHonor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Science Na-tional Honor Society, and National EnglishHonor Society. She will attend Rhodes College.

wTanner Chapman, voted “Most Quotable”by his peers, was a three-year member of the var-sity football team. He was a four-year member ofUSJ Singers and was active in the SADD Club andKey Club. Tanner will attend UT Knoxville.

wCarrie Cobbwas an All-State soccer playerand a member of the soccer state championshipteams in 2011 and 2012. Carrie, a National MeritCommended Scholar, served as the 2011 ScienceBowl championship team captain. She will playsoccer for Rhodes College.

w Jacob Cohen, voted “Most Spirited” by theclass of 2012, was National Honor Society presi-dent and junior class president. A four-time, topthree competitor in the Tennessee MathematicsTeacher’s Association math competition, Jacobwas an active member of Mu Alpha Theta. He willattend Wofford College in South Carolina.

wNathan Craigwas a member of the NationalArt Honor Society, Environmental Club, ArtClub, and Operation Smile Club. While attendingUSJ, he played golf and ran track. Nathan will at-tend UT Chattanooga.

wMargaret Crocker, founder and president ofOperation Smile Club, completed medical mis-sions in India and China. She was a member of theNational Art Honor Society and received theRhodes Book Award for PhilanthropicLeadership her junior year. Margaretwas voted “Best Smile” by her peers.She will attend Louisiana State Uni-versity.

w Jessica Crosnoe, a member ofthe National Honor Society, MuAlpha Theta, SADD Club,Key Club, Film Club, andOperation Smile Club, ranfor the cross-country andtrack teams. Jessica wasactive in Young Life forfour years. She was athree-year memberof the soccer team.Jessica will attendUT Knoxville.

wWhitney Culbreath, a Leadership Univer-sity graduate, was a cheer squad captain and two-time UCA All-American cheerleader. Chaplain ofTri-M Honor Society and SADD Club president,Whitney was voted a senior superlative by herpeers. She will attend the University of Alabama.

w Jacob Daggett, a member of the NationalArt Honor Society, ran track and was voted “MostSpirited” by his peers. Jake will major in mechani-cal engineering at the University of Arkansas.

wBethany Dietzwas a member of the two-time state championship soccer team. She was theScience National Honor Society president, MuAlpha Theta secretary, and a member of the Na-tional Honor Society, National English Honor So-ciety, and National Art Honor Society. Bethanywill attend UT Knoxville where she will major inchemical engineering.

wKirstie Finchmaintained perfect attendancethroughout her 14 years at USJ. She was the Span-ish National Honor Society president and a mem-ber of the 2012 Tennessee All-State Honor Choir.She was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by herpeers. Kirstie will attend UT Knoxville.

wMorgan Galbraithwas a National HonorSociety member and secretary of the PhotographyClub and Environmental Club. She won theScholastic Gold Key Award in photography. Mor-gan will attend UT Knoxville.

w John Ross Glover, a two-time Division IIAMr. Basketball winner and the West TennesseePlayer of the Year, was the Tennessee nominee forthe McDonald’s All-American Award. The Ten-nessee Sports Writers Association named JohnRoss to the All-State basketball team three consec-utive years. He will attend Lipscomb Universitywhere he will play basketball.

wAinsley Gompfwas the National EnglishHonor Society vice president and Spanish Na-

tional Honor Society secretary. She alsoserved as the Lower School yearbook editorand the Upper School yearbook co-editor.She will attend High Point University inNorth Carolina.

wKyle Gregory, a member of the base-ball and golf teams, transferred toUSJ his junior year. He was amember of the National HonorSociety, National EnglishHonor Society, Science Na-tional Honor Society, andMu Alpha Theta. Kyle willattend UT Knoxville.

wLogan Hallwas theNational Honor Society sec-retary and Lower School

yearbook editor. A four-year basket-ball, volleyball, and softball player,she was voted “Most Athletic” by theclass of 2012. She will attend Missis-sippi State University.

w Jacob Hamilton, a four-year soccer playerand two-year cross-country runner, qualified torun at the state championship twice. Jacob volun-teered for the Exchange Club Carl Perkins Centerfor the Prevention of Child Abuse and was amember of Operation Smile Club. He will attendAustin Peay State University.

wCaroline Hayneswas named Most Out-standing Choir Student twice, selected to theQuad State Honor Choir, and received the six-year award in the All-Northwest Honor Choir.She was a four-year Head of School Scholar andvice president of Tri-M Music Honor Society andSpanish National Honor Society. Caroline plansto attend Rhodes College.

wHoneye Heydari, a member of the two-timestate championship soccer team, set a USJ recordof 149 goals scored in four years. She was namedto the All-State soccer team four times and waspart of the track relay team that won State in 2009.Honeye was also a National Art Honor Societymember. She will play soccer at Mississippi State.

wEdward Hockaday, III,was voted “Best Per-sonality” by his peers. He was a senior HonorCouncil representative and helped draft the USJHonor Code. Edward was a four-year footballplayer and named to the All-Region HonorableMention team twice. He will attend UT Knoxville.

wDustin Hopper, an Outstanding Art Stu-dent, was a member of the National Art HonorSociety, Art Club, and French Club. He will majorin graphic design at the Memphis College of Art.

w Sarah Howard, voted “Best Personality” bythe class of 2012, was yearbook co-editor and Stu-dent Government Association chaplain. Sheserved as class secretary two years. Sarah will at-tend Samford University in Alabama.

wCody Howell, a member of Mu Alpha Thetaand SADD Club, played soccer three years. Codywill attend UT Knoxville and major in business.

w Stuart Howell, a four-year tennis player andpart of the 2009 state championship team, re-cently won his bracket in the 2012 Rotary Individ-ual Tennis Tournament. He was selected to theAll-Northwest Tennessee Honor Choir threeyears. Stuart will attend Murray State University.

wOlivia Hughes, a captain of the nationally-ranked USJ cheer squad, was voted HomecomingQueen and “Most Talented” by her peers. She wasvice president of the National Art Honor Societyand SADD Club and a member of the Science Na-tional Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. Oliviawill attend the University of Georgia.

wT.J. Ivy, a member of the National Honor So-ciety, SADD Club, and Chemistry Club, served assecretary of Key Club. He received an academicaward in World Religion. T.J. will attend UTKnoxville where he plans to study pre-dentistry.

wCallie Jaggerswas a founding member of theHonor Council and served as Speaker. She wasalso a National Honor Society member and chap-lain of the Science National Honor Society andKey Club. Callie was an active member of YoungLife. She will attend UT Knoxville.

wMina James-Gistwas a flautist with the Jack-son Symphony Youth Orchestra and a member ofJack and Jill of America. She attended Governor’sSchool and was a lead organizer for Art in thePark, 2012. Mina plans to attend the University ofMichigan where she will major in biomedical engi-neering.

wAdam Johnsonwas a four-year honor rollstudent. He was a member of the National HonorSociety, National French Honor Society, and MuAlpha Theta. Adam was awarded the medal forhighest achievement in Research and Library Op-erations. Adam will attend UT Knoxville.

w Shelby Jordan, daughter of Frank and CeliaJordan, was secretary and a founding officer ofOperation Smile Club. She went to China on amedical mission and attended the National YoungLeaders Conference in Washington, D.C. Voted“Most Likely to be Remembered” by her peers,Shelby will attend UT Chattanooga.

w Shelby Jordan, daughter of David and Car-ilyn Jordan, was a three-time state championathlete: the 3200-meter relay championshipteam anchor in 2009 and the Division IIA statechampionship soccer team captain in 2010 and2011. She was All-State in soccer, track, andcross-country and earned the High School Heis-man and Female Athlete of the Year Award in2012. She will play soccer at Mississippi State.

wElizabeth Joyner, a member of the NationalArt Honor Society, Art Club, Spanish Club, andKey Club, will major in elementary education atUnion University.

wPrabhjot Kaur transferred to USJ as a junior.She plans to major in pre-medicine and is unde-cided about her college choice.

wOscar Leonwas Spanish Club vice presidentand a member of the National Spanish Honor So-ciety. He played on the soccer team. Oscar will at-tend Mississippi State where he will double majorin international business and Spanish.

wMichael Lindseywas a four-year member ofthe baseball team and selected as a starting playerhis senior year. He will attend Jackson State Com-munity College to major in agri-business and farmand ranch management.

Tennessee Governor’s School for the VisualArts, was a Tennessee American Legion Auxil-iary Girls State delegate. She was a National ArtHonor Society member and a five-year memberof the golf team. Ann Elizabeth will play golf atUnion University.

wGray Magee, who played the lead role ofFonzie in the USJ production of Happy Days,was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by the sen-ior class. He served as class vice president fouryears and received the medal for academic excel-lence in AP Biology. Gray will attend UnionUniversity.

wGrant Mansfield, a recipient of the MaxPrep Defensive Player of the Week Award, wasnamed to the All-State/All-Region/All-Districtfootball teams. Grant was selected to the All-Northwest Tennessee Honor Choir three yearsand was a member of the USJ Concert Choir andTri-M Music Honor Society. He will attend UTChattanooga.

wMeredith Mastersonwas a member of thetwo-time state championship soccer team and thetennis team. She will attend UT Chattanooga andmajor in nursing.

wLee Mayhall, a three-sport athlete, was voted“Mr. USJ” and Homecoming King by his class-mates. Lee broke four state records in football, wasnamed All-State three times, and was a Mr. Foot-ball finalist. He will play football for the Universityof North Alabama.

wTrevor McGee, a four-year baseball player,was a member of National Honor Society, Chem-istry Club, and Concert Choir. He will play base-ball and major in biology at Union University.

wAshton McGuirewas a four-year tennisplayer, qualifying for the state tournament eachyear. A member of Young Life and the SpanishClub, he will attend the University of Arkansas.

wPrice McKnight, an Eagle Scout, was Span-ish Club treasurer, a member of the Science Na-tional Honor Society, and a three-year member ofthe soccer team. Price will major in biomedical en-gineering at the University of Arkansas.

wChloe Meriwether, voted “Miss USJ” by herpeers, was a Junior Rotarian and a member of theNational Honor Society, Science National HonorSociety, National English Honor Society, MuAlpha Theta, and National Art Honor Society. Shewas a cheerleader four years and a squad captainher senior year. She will attend Rhodes College.

wAnthony Micetich, a four-year Head ofSchool Scholar, was a member of the NationalHonor Society, Science National Honor Society,Spanish National Honor Society, and Mu AlphaTheta. Anthony was a varsity soccer team captainand named to the All-State soccer team in 2011.He will attend UT Knoxville.

wEmily Mullins played tennis at USJ and waspart of the 2009 state tennis championship teamand the 2011 West Tennessee Honorable Mentiontennis team. She was a National Art Honor Soci-ety member and named “Cutest” by her class-mates. Emily plans to attend UT Chattanooga.

wCole Murray, a USJ Scholar his senior year,was a four-year member of the baseball team. Hewas active in Young Life and the SADD Club.Cole will attend UT Knoxville.

wChase Nelson, an All-State football player,was voted “Wittiest” by the senior class. He was amember of the National Honor Society and theScience National Honor Society. Chase will at-tend UT Knoxville.

wYusuke Niimi came to USJ from Japan as asophomore. He was happy to have the opportu-nity to learn about American culture and graduatefrom USJ. He will return to Japan after graduation.

wAshley Nkadi, treasurer of the SADD Club,was voted “Most Quotable” by the senior class.She was a member of the National Honor Society,National English Honor Society, National ArtHonor Society, National French Honor Society,and Mu Alpha Theta. Ashley was recognized bythe National Achievement Scholarship programher senior year. She will attend the University ofCincinnati.

wPriyesh Patelwas a member of the SADDClub and International Club. While traveling inIndia, he was able to assist the Operation SmileClub by donating money to repair a child’s cleftlip. Priyesh will attend the University of Memphis.

wRoshni Patel, senior class secretary, was amember of the yearbook staff and vice president ofKey Club. She also served as junior class chaplain.Roshni will attend UT Knoxville.

wBon Pinkleywas a member of the NationalEnglish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and theNational Honor Society. He received the BestMale Actor Award for his role in Peter Pan. Bonwill attend Harding University where he willmajor in pre-medicine.

wGeorgia Poole,Operation Smile Club vicepresident, traveled to China and India on medicalmissions. She was treasurer of Tri-M Music HonorSociety and was selected to the All-NorthwestTennessee Honor Choir. Georgia will attend theUniversity of Arkansas.

w Jordan Ragon, the National Art Honor Soci-ety treasurer, was a member of the NationalHonor Society, Science National Honor Society,and Mu Alpha Theta. She held the positions ofsecretary, historian, and treasurer in the StudentGovernment Association. Jordan, voted “MostSchool Spirited” by the senior class, was a cheersquad captain and an All-American Cheerleader.She will attend Tennessee Tech.

w Lashlee Randolphwas aNational Art Honor Society mem-ber. She was awarded a MemphisCollege of Art Summer Scholar-ship, placed second in the FederalDuck Stamp Art Contest, and re-ceived honorable mention in theWest Tennessee Regional ArtCenter Competition. Lashleeplans to attend UT Chattanooga.

wAlexandra Revellwas a run-ner for the 2010 regional champi-onship cross-country team. Shewas a member of the National ArtHonor Society and Mu AlphaTheta. Ally will attend UT Chat-tanooga.

wMichael Richards, Jr.,was a NationalHonor Society member, a four-year member ofthe soccer team, and a three-year member of thefootball team. He was named to the Division IIAAll-District football team and received HonorableMention in 2011. Michael will attend UTKnoxville.

wRebecca Rogerswas a member of the Na-tional Spanish Honor Society, Tri-M MusicHonor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and NationalHonor Society. She attended the Governor’sSchool for the Arts. She was named to the All-State Honor Choir three times and the ACDASouthern Division Regional Honor Choir in2012. Rebecca will attend Belmont Universitywhere she will major in vocal performance.

wChase Rushingwas recognized by the Ten-nessee Sports Writers Association as part of theAll-State football team, All-Region football team,All-District football team, and All-West footballteam. He also was named to the All-District soccerteam. He will attend the University of Mississippi.

w Sarathi Sarkarwas a four-year band memberand percussion section leader. A National MeritCommended Scholar and AP Scholar with Dis-tinction, he will major in aerospace and mechani-cal engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.

wCaleb Selfwas a yearbook co-editor, StudentGovernment Association parliamentarian, and APScholar. Caleb, an Eagle Scout, will attend Lip-scomb University.

wBrigham Shortwas the recipient of the Ris-ing Senior Musical Theatre Scholarship and the2012 Musical Theatre Superior AchievementAward. She was honored with the Best ActressAward for her performances in Peter Pan andHappy Days and was selected to the All-NorthwestTennessee Honor Choir five times. Brigham wastreasurer of Tri-M Music Honor Society. She willattend the University of Mississippi.

wAashray Singareddy, a Head of SchoolScholar, was a member of the Science NationalHonor Society, National English Honor Society,and National Honor Society. Aashray will major inmathematics at Rhodes College.

wNavjot Singh, a member of the Chess Club,transferred to USJ as a junior. He will major in pre-medicine at Union University.

wRanjodh Singh,who transferred to USJ as ajunior, plans to major in pre-medicine and is unde-

cided about his college choice.w Sara Slackwas a member of the 2010

and 2011 state soccer championship teams.She received a Best Design Award in the 2011

Dashboard for Design Fashion Show andthe 2011 Outstanding Art II Award.Sara, selected as an alternate for theGovernor’s School for Arts, willattend Mississippi State.w Brandon Smith, a four-year

football player, was a member ofthe National Honor Society, Sci-

ence National Honor Society, and MuAlpha Theta. Brandon also was a grad-uate of Leadership University. He willattend Rhodes College.

wAnthony Spates, recipient of the 2012 Jack-son Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Scholarship, wasa four-year member of the football and track teamsand a three-year member of the basketball team.He served as the 2012 track team captain and wasnamed to the All-District Honorable Mentionfootball team. Anthony was a member of the Na-tional Honor Society, National Art Honor Society,and Science National Honor Society. He will at-tend the University of Missouri at Columbia.

wHaley Staffordwas a member of the Na-tional Honor Society, Spanish National HonorSociety, Tri-M Music Honor Society, and KeyClub. She will attend Union University to major inelementary education.

wBenjamin Stuartwas a four-year member ofthe football team and a two-year member of thetennis team. He was a member of Tri-M MusicHonor Society and USJ Singers. Benjamin will at-tend Mississippi State.

wHabeeb Suara, a National Achievement fi-nalist, attended the Governor’s School for the Sci-ences. He was the Student Government vicepresident and a three-year member of the All-WestTennessee band. Habeeb will major in biomedicalengineering at the University of Pennsylvania.

w Jackson Teer, a National Honor Society andNational Spanish Honor Society member, was atwo-year All-Northwest Tennessee Honor Choirmember and four-year soccer player. Jackson plansto attend UT Knoxville to major in pre-dentistry.

w Shane Vargason, an AP Scholar with Hon-ors and Head of School Scholar, played threesports: basketball, football, and track. He placedfirst in four divisions at the TMTA RegionalMath Competition and was a member ofthe National Honor Society, NationalSpanish Honor Society, National EnglishHonor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Na-tional Science Honor Society. Shane willattend Mississippi State where he will majorin aerospace and mechanical engineering.

wTyler Wallace, founder of the Political Club,was selected to serve on the Juvenile Court Boardfor Peer Mediation and recently won first place inthe American Legion Regional Oratorical Com-petition. Tyler assisted in technical direction forUSJ theatre events, as well as receiving the out-standing theatre student award for two years. Heplans to attend UT Chattanooga.

wBillie Anne Ward, yearbook business man-ager and secretary of the SADD Club, received themedal for academic excellence in English I. BillieAnne plans to attend UT Chattanooga where shewill major in nursing.

wRyan Weisswas a four-year soccer playerand a member of Operation Smile Club, SADDClub, and Chemistry Club. Ryan will attendUT Knoxville and major in pre-medicine.

wCaroline Whitewas a member of USJSingers, Operation Smile Club, SADD Club,and Key Club. Caroline will attend UT Chat-tanooga and major in public relations.

wGrant Whitsitt, a Head of SchoolScholar, was a graduate of Leadership Univer-sity and attended the Tennessee Governor’sSchool for the Arts. He served as the NationalArt Honor Society president. Grant will attendthe Savannah College of Art and Design tomajor in animation.

wClare Williamswas a member of the two-time state championship soccer team. She at-tended the Governor’s School for InternationalStudies and received the Sewanee Award for Ex-cellence in Writing. She also was selected to theAll-Northwest Tennessee Honor Choir fivetimes and the Tennessee All-State Choir hersenior year. Clare will attend Union University.

wMatthew Wingwas named to the All-WestBand and has performed in every musical since hisfreshman year. He was a member of the NationalHonor Society and the varsity football team. Mattplans to attend Belmont University.

w John Wilson, II, an Eagle Scout, was a five-year member of the golf team and served as cap-tain his senior year. He placed second in theDivision IIA state finals in golf and was a memberof the National Honor Society. John will major inpre-dentistry at UT Chattanooga.

wChase Winslow, a four-year basketball playernamed to the All-District team, was chosen MostImproved Player his freshman year and awardedthe Best Three-Point Shooter Award and theBruin Award. He was a member of the SADDClub and Operation Smile Club. Chase will attendUT Chattanooga.
