Welcome, and welcome back to PIE for the 2013-2014 school year! I hope every- one had many enjoyable moments during the summer. We’re looking forward to meeting all the new families and recon- necting with our continuing families. The teachers are ready to help with any ques- tions you may have and we are committed to providing a program based on our mot- to, “Where Life and Learning Meet.” Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have—we’re happy to help! In light of this, we will need to make sure that all instructors paid by SD #47 to provide services for PIE students have a current Criminal Record Review on file with the institution they work for (rec centres etc) or, in the case of individual instruc- tors, with SD #47. The top three activities for both Powell River and the Comox Valley will be planned, if possible (circumstances sometimes dictate that an alternate activity has to be planned, in which case we’ll move to the next most popular choice in the survey results). To help families start planning and saving early for their children’s education after high school, the Government

of British Columbia announced a new $1,200 BC Training and Education Savings Grant.

When a B.C. resident child turns six years old, the Province of British Columbia will put $1,200 into the child’s Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP).

Starting immediately, all B.C. children with an RESP and born on or after January 1, 2007 will be entitled to re-ceive the BC Training and Education Savings Grant.

PIE Code of Conduct and Showcase

Volume 4, Issue 1

I would like to take this opportunity to showcase the fabulous teachers we have in the PIE program.

They consistently go above and beyond to meet the individual needs of their students as well as the

overall needs of the program as we continue to grow in numbers and services.

Pat, Bev and Vyonne make up our Powell River crew. Last

year, they spent hours and hours of their own time moving

our office from the tiny space we had at the board office to

our fabulous new home in the Oceanview Learning Centre

(the former OV library). They scoured the school looking for

tables, chairs, shelves etc in an effort to create a space that

would be inviting and useful for our fami-

lies and staff. I think they did an outstand-

ing job and I am grateful for all their efforts

every time I walk

in the door -

especially when I

see our students

there for Interac-

tion Days and

other PIE events.

Lisa, Robyn, Lyndsay and Marnie make up our Comox Valley

team. They worked hard to create a space where PIE students,

parents, and staff could gather to discuss resources, create fab-

ulous works of art, share projects at our Science/Heritage Fair,

participate in a variety of Interaction Day events, and generally

spend time together. Their efforts resulted in a positive and

greatly appreciated new aspect of the program.
