A fictitious or pseudo force (PF) is an apparent force that acts on all particles whose motion is described using a non-inertial frame of reference, such as an accelerated or a rotating reference frame.

PF invariably arises from the acceleration a of the non-inertial reference frame itself or when a frame of reference is accelerating compared to a non-accelerating frame.

Thus, an apparent additional force arising due to non-uniform relative motion of two reference frames is called a pseudo-force.

Four PFs:

~one caused by linear relative acceleration of the origin of reference frame

~centrifugal force due circular motion

~Coriolis force on moving particle both in translator and rotary motions

~Euler force due by a variable rate of rotation

Gravitational force functions as a fictitious force when seen from the field model point of view.

Léon Foucault was able to show the Coriolis force that results from the Earth's rotation using the Foucault pendulum.

Pseudo force is equal to the mass of the body under consideration multiplied by the acceleration of the frame of reference.

The direction of pseudo force is opposite to the direction of acceleration of the reference frame.

It needs to be understood that PF does not arise from a physical interaction between two objects, but rather from the acceleration of then on-inertial reference frame itself.
