The quiet summer time is almost over and the new season full of entertainment and activities is going to start again soon. In the coming months the weather will start getting a little cooler and people will be outside and more active. This, along with those soon returning to the park, will create more traffic and more people and pets walking the streets. Along with this activity the complaints will also start rolling in. I’m going to start here and address two of the most common complaints, fast cars and dog droppings. Unless you have pictures or proof there is not a lot that the office or the board can do with either one of these issues. It is up to everyone in the community to address these problems. First by following the speed limit and picking up after your pet. Second by saying something when you see it happening. Self-discipline and self-monitoring are the best options.Now that’s off my chest I will address all the accomplishments over the last few months. All of it at ground level. The cement work has been fixed at the shuffle board courts as well as the cracks by the parking and ramp. All new flooring has been put in the club house as well as carpet in the library and the office area. The clubhouse decking has been replaced and looks great. Last, the curtains in the clubhouse have been cleaned. The only thing left is some additional landscaping by the clubhouse. I’m looking forward to a busy and active time, soon to come.Marion Monroe

AQUASIZEAquasize will begin in November. We meet Monday, Tuesday and Friday 9:30 at the pool. You will need a kickboard and 2 like size plastic bottles with handles and lids. This is a fun filled full body workout. Hope to see you there. Sharon

Riverwalk BowlersRiverwalk Bowling League will be starting the 2019/20 season on Wednesday, Nov 6th. Pre-bowling begins at 8:45 A.M. and every Wednesday thereafter at Treasure Lane’s bowling alley in Port Charlotte. Teams will be put together this month in order to allow the bowling alley significant time to enter into the computer.

The League is always looking for anyone that can roll a bowling ball down the lane (scores are not relevelant). In addition, we are looking for substitute bowlers (potentially to be full time bowlers). This is a fun league and it gives you a great opportunity to meet and get to know your neighbors. MARK YOUR CALENDARS. A meeting will be held in the clubhouse on Wednesday, Oct 30th at 10:00 A.M. to discuss the following: team makeup, rules, banquet committee, etc.

CRAFTSOctober 30, 1pm at the clubhouse will be the first craft meeting. Our project will be a pine cone turkey. For this you will need 3 large pine cones (the kind around the nature trail), Elmer's glue, hot glue and gun. Before coming to class--place pine cones on a sheet of aluminum foil, bake in 200 F oven for ten minutes. When cool take the petals off of 2 pinecones, these will form the turkey's tail, the remaining pinecone is the body. Sharon Mooney 426-0129 after 10/22


GOOD TIME GALSThe Good Time Gals will have an organizational meeting in October. (Date to be announced, watch your tube mail) Our organization is open to all women of Riverwalk. Let’s CelebrateEarl and Dara Lee Howard invite our Village neighbors to help them celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a party at the Clubhouse on 26 October 2019 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Come at 2 p.m., drink a toast (Champagne or another beverage) at 2:30 p.m. , and then enjoy cake and ice cream. Please “save this date” so we can share our anniversary with our neighbors.

In Our LibraryWhile our seasonal residents were away, work was done in our Clubhouse Library.

New carpet was installed, which meant our books all had to be put in boxes and moved out, the shelves had to be unbolted from the walls and removed, small enclosed shelves had to be emptied to be removed, all tables & chairs had to be moved to the Clubhouse. Then last but not least the company had to scrape glue off the floor before installing new carpet. After new carpet was put in everything had to be put back into place.

It was a pleasure to be able to head up most of the cleaning out since Laura Voorhies needed to be with her husband Tim who is Ill. The wonderful group of people who offered to help were so awesome with everything they helped with. The boxes were bought by the Board so we could easily pack each shelf into one box. What a wonderful contribution to make it so much easier on us packers. When everything was ready to be put back we had the boxes marked by bookcase/shelf. So nice to have the men bring the boxes in & put back by the shelf to be put back.

I want to say a Large Thank You to: Ron Moore, Roland Doughty, Jerry Wish, Ellen Wish, Millie Hubbard, Cory Vought, and Marion Monroe. With all of them helping, it made my job so much easier. Thank you all again.Phillie Brooks

PANCAKE BREAKFASTIt’s time once again to start getting ready for the pancake breakfasts. We’re going to change it up a little for ticket prices this year – single tickets will be $3.00 as usual if purchased in advance. At the door they’ll be $4.00. We’ll also be selling season tickets - $18.00 for a pack of 7 or $15.00 for a pack of 6. John and Mary Lou Panciera will be selling tickets again this year (345 Salt Creek Dr.) as well as Jim and Debbie Faikis (155 Riverwalk Dr., across from the clubhouse). Recycling Changes Coming to Sarasota CountyApproximately 30 years ago, Sarasota County voters approved a referendum adding mandatory recycling to the county charter. Residents living in unincorporated Sarasota County were required to recycle things like paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, and aluminum and steel cans by separating the recyclable materials and placing them into two bins for collection. This type of collection is known as dual stream.

Fast-forward to 2019…Sarasota County is transitioning to single-stream recycling. Residents in unincorporated Sarasota County will continue to recycle many of the same materials but will no longer be required to separate the materials. All recyclable materials will be collected together in one recycling cart.

Carts will be delivered to residents between Nov. 1-Dec. 20, 2019, and collection services for the new carts begins the week of Jan. 6, 2020. More information about the recycling program and how to use the carts will be included in a welcome kit that will be attached to your new cart.

Riverwalk Social ClubRiverwalk Social Club has been very busy planning to celebrate our 10th anniversary as a resident owned community this coming season.

Many of our favorite activities will be returning and we are planning some new events. As always we will have our favorite entertainers and some new talent will be introduced. If you are interested in helping with any events or have suggestions please contact the Social Club Board. Part of the fun of living in Riverwalk is participating in events.

Our planning meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 9th at 10:00AM. We welcome everyone to attend. The monthly Pot Luck will be Wednesday October 16 at 5:30 PM with the Social Club meeting to follow.

Tuesday October 22 is the date for the 1st cul de sac party of the season. New Pond Court is hosting, hot dogs will be provided. Bring a dish to share, BYOB and your chair.

The Halloween Party is scheduled for October 31 at 5:30 . Sloppy joes are on the menu, there will be prizes for costumes and music will be provided by Dave Graham. Karen Gutowski, Colleen Grady and their crew are planning a special treat for that evening.

We hope everyone had a great summer and hope to see all of our snow bird friends soon.


Welcome Back SnowbirdsAs we begin to welcome our snowbirds back to the Village I would like to take this time to remind everyone about some important items:

1. The speed limit in the Village is 15 miles per hour. You are required to fully STOP at every STOP sign in the Village, if you are in a car, golf cart or riding a bicycle. This is for your safety and the safety of all other residents. If a resident sees someone speeding or running stop signs, feel free to speak with that person, or if you can positively identify who it is and would like to speak with me and have me speak with the offender, please call me in the office. I cannot do anything about speeding in general, I need to know who the offender is before I can address the problem.

2. If you are a pet owner, you are required to have your pet on a leash at all times and you MUST pick up any pet waste if your pet relieves themselves ANYWHERE in the Village, that includes the Nature Trail and the part of Salt Creek that has no homes. There is NO place in the Village where your pet may leave their poop, it should always be picked up. If you see someone who is not abiding by these rules, please let me know. However, just because you see a dog squatting doesn't mean they are pooping, so please don't assume that someone is not picking up something when there may not be anything to pick up. We allow two pets per household, up to 50 lbs. and no aggressive breeds. If you are having guests, they must abide by all of these rules, please be sure to educate your guests. Also, we are a pet friendly community, please show some tolerance and respect regarding pets. I know some of our residents don't like pets, but pet owners have a right to be here. However, all pet owners must respect other residents and make sure they follow the rules as well.

3. Please don't put out any trash - garbage or vegetation waste - before Friday morning.

4. Please make sure that your security lights are on at each residence from dusk to dawn. If they are not working, please have them repaired.

5. Please make sure that your garden beds are free from weeds and bushes trimmed.

6. No tree shall be removed from your lot without written permission from the office. Any tree removed must be replaced at the residents cost.

7. There is NO parking on the grass and NO overnight parking on the street. Guests may park down at the Clubhouse parking area. You are not allowed to store an RV, boat, trailer in your driveway for more than 48 hours (for loading or unloading).

8. Proof of liability insurance on your golf cart is required. Please make sure the office has your updated policy information. Golf cart drivers under the age of 16 are to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

9. PLEASE check your email daily. I send out a lot of important and useful information via email and if you don't read your email you may be missing out on receiving that information.

Finally, if you have a complaint or a concern of any type, please come see me or call me at the office. It is my job to hear all complaints or concerns and I am the one responsible for addressing them, so please contact me in the office.
