VISION TOUCH IN Volume 59 March 6, 2020 A publication of Trinity United Methodist Church Life is messy. It can be painful, lonely, and sometimes difficult to get through. As people of faith, we are called to help each other during such times. Trinity UMC is committed to providing care and comfort for our church family in order to offer hope, healing and wholeness. As a church, we are creating a new model of care. We will be empowering laity alongside the pastors to form a Care Team. We are utilizing the information in the book “The Caring Congregation” by Rev. Karen Lampe, the Executive Pastor of Congregational Care at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas. She has developed a ministry model where pastors and church members offer outstanding care for their church family. We are looking for individuals who would be interested in becoming a “Congregational Care Minister”. The roles a CCM can choose from include: visiting individuals in the hospital or home-bound, calling on members before or after surgery, offering support to a grieving family, or visiting Trinity members in a local nursing home or retirement community. CCM training and Safe Gatherings certification are required. A Health Team is also being formed. Individuals who would like to serve our church family by: offering blood pressure checks, organizing a Flu/Shingles Shot Clinic, maintaining the AED machine, assisting with the medical closet, or providing occasional trainings or articles on healthy lifestyles are encouraged to volunteer. If the Care Team or the Health Team is an area you would like to serve in, please contact either: Pastor Lori at [email protected] or Pastor Craig at [email protected]. You may also call the church office at 785-825-5270. We would love to visit with you! Our goal is to form and train these teams by the end of April. Blessings, Pastor Lori and Pastor Craig

Life is messy. It can be painful, lonely, and sometimes difficult to get through. As people of faith, we are called to help each other during such times. Trinity UMC is committed to providing care and comfort for our church family in order to offer hope, healing and wholeness. As a church, we are creating a new model of care. We will be empowering laity alongside the pastors to form a Care

The events of Christ’s Passion, which take place during the last week of Jesus’ life, often don’t receive enough time in our worship and study. These stories are important to our faith journey and our identity as followers of Jesus. And yet we often move too quickly from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday with little time to take in the dramatic story of that last week. Throughout the six weeks of Lent we will “freeze-frame” moments in Holy Week so we might put ourselves in the picture, thereby “Entering the Passion of Jesus.” How might taking a closer look at the ancient story open us to deeper conviction for our role in its ongoing message?
Preventive measures you can take when it comes to viruses: •Wash your hands frequently, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, sneezing, being

Children’s Sabbath March 1 was Children’s Sabbath. It was a morning of worshipping under the leadership of children. The Children wrote the prayers, the Call to Worship. They provided drawings of what they thought God might look like. Pictures were shared from our Children’s Ministries at Trinity: Building Blocks Preschool, Sunday School, The Backpack Connection, The Children’s Christmas Pageant, Vacation Bible School and Promotion Sunday. They were our ushers, greeters, readers/liturgists, communion stewards and a bright spot in our day of worship. There is something spiritual and moving about communion shared by children. Something about hearing them say The Body of Christ given for you…it touches our hearts in a meaningful way. Thank you to the children for their heartfelt leadership, to the Sunday School teachers for helping them prepare their prayers and drawings, to the Education Committee for helping them rehearse, to the parents for making it so they could participate. Approximately 32 students age 4 year old – 5th grade participated. We are grateful for each one. Thank you to the planning team for their energy and their
preparation: Katie Snapp, Jessica Scott, Barb Bell & Tammy Dees.

TRINITY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS
The Trinity Scholarship Sub-Committee will be offering college scholarships to Trinity youth, who are high school seniors or college students working on their undergraduate degree. These scholarships will be for use during the 2020-2021 academic year at any college of the student’s choice. We look forward to continued contributions to the Trinity College Scholarship Fund coming from benefit concerts, memorial donations and contributions made by individuals and/or groups supporting Trinity youth. A portion of this fund has been set aside as a long-term investment which will continue to grow with gifts and memorials so that the earnings from this portion can provide meaningful scholarships for both high school seniors and undergraduate college students in the future. Applications for scholarships are now available in the church office and on the church website: https://www.triumc.org/youth/#college. The deadline for receipt of the completed scholarship application is the close of the church business day on April 17, 2020.

THrive • Thrive of the Heartland is seeking Allies to has begun. An
Ally is a volunteer who is partnered with a hard-working but low-income member of the community who is motivated to change her or his life. Allies should be positive, patient, good listeners, and willing to learn about the struggles facing low-income families in our community. Allies attend a four-week training course, Bridges out of Poverty, so they can approach poverty from a healthy perspective. Following that course, Allies attend programs the first Thursday evening of each month and one other monthly meeting time that is mutually agreeable within each Support Team. The total time commitment, including training, is ten months. For more information contact Michelle through www.thriveoftheheartland.org or call (785) 827-6731.
PRAYER GARDEN/COLUMBARIUM TASK FORCE • We would like to thank all those who participated in our recent survey. Well over 100 members completed the survey, which we feel is a valid representative sample. Based on the results of the survey, the Task Force does not believe that, at this time, there are enough members willing to commit to pre-purchasing a columbarium niche in order to begin this self-funded project.

Lenten Video Study featuring Rachel Held Evans
A NEW FAMILY: Opening the Doors of the Church; Sunday Mornings at 11:00 following the Nine:50; March 1st through 29th; Hosted by Susan Burchill Rachel Held Evans reached for the outsiders: a diverse bunch of clumsy-yet-beautiful people of different races, cultures, beliefs, faiths, genders, and sexual orientations. She brought their voices and perspectives forward to share the all-inclusive grace of God. Tragically, Rachel died last spring at the age of 37. In this study, we will honor her work and continue the hard conversations that bring us closer as a community and closer to God.
