The AmericanRevolution inspireda wave ofapproximately2,000 SwissMennonites tomove to UpperCanada andacquire property inYork and Waterloocounties. In the1870's, 18,000Dutch Mennonitesleft Russia forNorth America.

In 1917,conscriptioncaused evenmore Mennonitesto leave the USfor the CanadianPrairies. Then, theBolshevikRevolutionprompted 20,000more to fleeEurope.

The SecondWorld Wardisplaced 12,000Mennonites fromEurope and afterthe war anadditional 8,000migrated toCanada. At theturn of the lastMillennium, therewere nearly200,000Mennonites livingin Canada.
