School Media Center to provide a creative and energetic library media program that ensures that all students and staff are effective users of ideas, information, technology, and to prepare students to be lifelong readers, learners, and successful seekers of information.
Media CenterThe media center is located in the heart of the school directly behind the front office. This makes accessibility and location easy to find for students and visitors.
Student workspaceThe media center has 8 student computers to use for research,

Circulation Desk Continued
Students check in books and place them on the shelf.
Students have to find their own cards to scan in order to check
out.
Can only check out 2 books or what isn’t already checked out
by the students. (For example, a student returns only one book, he
can only check out one book for that visit.)
Scheduling
Teachers sign-up weekly for a time to come in for a mini-lesson and circulation.
If they want an additional lesson time with the SLMS, they will have to sign-up for another date that doesn’t interfere with other classes having circulation time.
Scheduled classes and times aren’t continuously carried over weekly. Have to start a new schedule weekly.
Fees
Teacher's aren’t fined for lost books unless
the transfer schools and take library books
with them.
Student’s are charged for the cost of the
book only. However, they cannot receive
their report cards until books are returned
or fines are paid.
Ready ReferenceStudents references are readily available as
you walk into the library.
Teach resources are readily
located near the entrance.

Survey Question 1:
What do you like about your Media Center?
The friendliness of staff along with the openness to send students individually. Also, the lessons that are taught.
The lessons that our Media Specialist are good.
That it is easy to find what you are looking for.
I really enjoy the flexible schedule. The lessons and technology that my students are exposed to in the Media Center are invaluable and my whole class looks forward to going every week!!!
Very organized and open whenever I need it!
I really like how smoothly the media center is ran. Very effective.
Our media center is very student center and inviting.
Everything! It is easy to find books. It is learning centered through AR and class lessons. Mr. Pirkle's lessons are standard's based so the students are able to do more than just check out books. I love that he tests the students using the CPS system at the end of the lessons. This helps me see what students are getting the concepts and who needs more support!

SurveyQuestion 2:What would you like to see different or implemented into your current
Media Center? Or, what service could the staff provide to better meet the needs of you and your students?
I can't think of anything that needs to be changed! The students love coming to the library.
I don't like the online scheduling program.
I don't know our staff does a really good job in the Media Center.
I would like to see more student devices available for student lessons while in the media center. As they are learning how to surf the web and Internet safety then they all have a device to practice with immediately.
I can't think of any.
N/a
I truly don't know what else there is.
They are beyond perfect, expert managers of the resources we have and clearly instill a love for coming to the media center and for reading
I would like to have a scheduled library time a few times a month that I don't have to sign up for.
Improvement List Reading area with
seating arrangements and carpet (educational).

Walmart and BestBuy
Current Media Center
PoliciesStudents: Checkout is limited to 2 weeks and up to 2 books can be checked out at any time. After 2 weeks the item or items are considered overdue. Students cannot check out other materials or receive AR prizes or awards until overdue books are returned. Students will pay for lost books as according to school system policy.
-A group of no more than 4 students from a single classroom can visit the media center to checkout or to use a computer station. A group of more than 4 students requires a media center reservation, even if a teacher or paraprofessional is accompanying them.
-Each homeroom teacher is provided with 4 media center passes for the students in their classroom. These passes are for the students physically present in the classroom when permission is granted. Therefore, students that change classes don’t have to go and get the pass from their homeroom teacher nor should they.
-Media Center Passes are not transferable. Passes that are currently not being used in one classroom should not be shared with another classroom, nor should a student ever be allowed to go to another room to ”borrow” a media center pass because 4 is not enough.
-When students are visiting the media center independently, they should stay on the task they were given permission for. Students who are cutting up, horse playing, or talking disruptively instead of looking for books or working on a computer station will be immediately sent back to their classroom and not be allowed to return for the remainder of the school day.
-Students who come to the media center to use a computer for any reason should report to the Circulation Desk first so that media staff can fully serve their needs.
Policies ContinuedTeachers:
-With regards to teachers, a 2 week check out limit will only be
enforced if and when the item has been requested by another
teacher or student. Teachers should always give their best effort to
return items when are no longer using them. Otherwise, all materials
used throughout the entire year are due at the end of the school
year. The only exception is digital cameras, which can be checked
out for no more than two days due to high demand.
-Because of the Patron Privacy Law and its protection for students, if
a teacher needs a book and a student has the book checked out,
the media center staff cannot and will not release the name of
the student to the teacher. A hold can be placed for the book
when it is returned for the teacher or if the teacher's need is urgent,
media center will staff will try to acquire the book from the student
only if he or she is actually finished with the book.
Proposed changes to current
Policies
Each grade level or areas have one of
each technology equipment so they can
alternate the items on a timely manner
within a smaller group.
Consistent scheduling.
Policies Continued
If any class or group of more than 4 students needs the media center, a reservation is required.
-Teachers can sign-up a class or student group 1 time per week for up to a 3 week window. For example, if today is Tuesday, up through the next 3 Tuesdays will be available for sign-up. Any sign-up beyond this 3 week window will immediately be removed by media center staff.
-Teachers can use the online Media Center Class Schedule Calendar to reserve times. Sign-up for the following school day will close at 12:00 on the day prior in order to allow for adequate media staff planning.
-Teachers can choose from the prescribed menu of Media Center activities for their grade level when making a reservation and all they have to do is write their name and the description of the menu item for their grade level. For more wonderful ideas that are not on the menu, meet with the media specialist.
- If a teacher wants the media specialist to come to their classroom for a lesson, planned activity, or assistance with digital projects, they should also use the Media Center Reservation Calendar to do so. For emergency technical assistance, just use email and the media specialist will arrive as soon as he is available.
-Teachers should delete their reservation on the calendar as soon as possible if a conflict arises and a reservation cannot be kept to ensure availability to other classes. In such a case, a teacher can reserve another time for the same week. If a teacher just simply forgets to show up resulting in a "NO SHOW" where a time block is wasted, the teacher should not reserve another time for the same week as it would double the impact with regards to media center availability.
Emphasis on Reading This school implements Accelerated Reader
immensely. Every Friday an AR King, Queen,
Prince, and a Princess are chosen to represent the school. They are chosen by high percentage of
their test results out of how many they have taken
on their reading level.
Students are rewarded a crown or a wrestling belt
with their title embellished. They are allow to wear this for a week as well as have a carbonated drink
at recess.
