THE GOSSIP AND THE GOTHIC• Horace Walpole was the son of Robert Walpole, “Prime Minister” during the reign of George I and George II in the years 1715/17-1721/42

• In 1749 he bought Strawberry Hill House and during the following years he transformed it

into a Gothic castle

It’s a collection of letters gathered by Lorenzo Alderani for

«erigere un monumento alla virtù sconosciuta di Foscolo»; it

focuses on different themes, like the suicide of the protagonist

and the troubled love for Teresa.

IL CONTE DI CARMAGNOLA

Takes place in the Italy of the 15th century and tells the

story of Francesco Bussone, count of Carmagnola,

chieftain at the service, first, of the duke of Milan, and then of the Republic of Venice, which, in 1432 ,

sentences him to death for betrayal.

Fattorini, is the emblem of broken youth and of the

TUTTO E’ MALEThis passage of “Zibaldone”

was composed in 1826 and it’s the summary of the so-called “cosmic pessimism”.For the author living and suffering are the same thing and joy is just a momentary illusion.
