It’s all about women in the latest issue of Inside Outside. These leading ladies build stories that make a telling impact and last much longer.First however, our cover story this issue features

a holiday villa where tranquility is beauty. Ritu Todi, Principal Designer and owner of Cane Boutique, was given a free hand to create a space that was calm and serene yet had a luxurious touch. An Asean concept has been implemented along with a simple, minimal look. The end result of the efforts put in by Cane Boutique is spellbinding with all its élan and grandeur.

The Women in Design 2020+ International Conference was the most positive event that could begin the year. Organised by the Hecar Foundation under the leadership of Brinda Somaya – the change makers narrated their spellbinding stories. The 37 speakers recounted challenging episodes that reinforced their resolve and engaged in stimulating discussions that provoked thought.

Whenever India’s iconic cricket Captain, Virat Kohli, ‘touches’ anything, it attracts phenomenal instant interest. The recently-opened One8 Commune restaurant-cum-bar in Aerocity, New Delhi designed by Ar Abhigyan Neogi helming Chromed Design Studio, starts with the legendary #18 which is emblazoned on the cricketer’s jersey. Virat was 18 when his father died on 18 December 2006. Perhaps this makes it special. And 18 was the number given to him when he played the ICC Under-18 in 2008, which he has retained since then. It has become symbolically his. The commune is based on the theme of togetherness; aiming to bring people of varied tastes and backgrounds together.

A bungalow in Akola has been designed by IDEAS 1 to house three generations of a family, providing for their different needs while creating a contemporary home. According to Principal Architect Jyoti Kalantri, designing this residence was a journey of painting a blank structural canvas with layers of materials, a journey of exploring newer details and then witnessing the canvas come alive.

We also take a look at a concept hotel, the restoration of jhalaras, and Indians abroad. Keep reading!

In times past jhalaras – as square stepwells in the desert are called – were sources of water, places to meet and perform rituals, and a spot to rest from the unrelenting heat of day. Sadly, with the change in lifestyles, the passage of time has left them in varying states of disuse and encroachments.

Villa92 HyDErABAD’S gOTHIc VILLA Meghna Rao’s current project is a fifty-year-old house in

Hyderabad with thick 16-inch load bearing walls and height constraints in most places. A modern gothic villa was magnificently refurbished keeping in mind the constraints of the pre-existing structure. Now, this standout Bohemian, old world, rustic, gothic villa has everything – right from the balcony railings, to the chandeliers, as well as curtain tiebacks designed and made to order especially for space. Artwork from the designer’s own collection also graces the villa.

defined by the adaptively reused structure.
