Memory Eternal!

Mother of God, Help us!

We are now in the period of Fast of the Dormition of

the Virgin Mary. For those who love the Lord (Jesus

Christ) and his Way (The Church) it is very useful to

pause and reflect about the graces of the divine mother-

hood of the Virgin Mary. Yes, the Virgin is our Mother

in heaven. What a paradox: Virgin-Mother! This is only

possible to God, who chose this venue to become like us

so that we may be like Him.

All of us think with nostalgia about our mothers and

some realize how sweet and comforting it is to have a

mother! It is so because motherhood means: protection,

love, prayer, ultimate sacrifice. It certainly feels good to

have someone fitting these attributes to uphold you! The

Virgin Mary, became the Mother of Jesus, true God and

true Man. Her availability to allow God work in her life

means the world to us. She showed faith and courage.

She relied on God without hesitation and He did not fail

her either. After His Resurrection, He did not let her vir-

gin body decay and lifted her to heaven. Mary shows us

what is next in the life of believers. All this may be ob-

tained if we do what Christ tells us to do. At Cana of

Galilee, she told us to do so.

How sweet it is to be eternally loved, prayed for and

upheld by a perpetual Mother like her! In her honor, let

us fast and prepare ourselves for the great encounter with

God. If we do this, we will never be shy to ask her to

help us in time of our need. This is certainly that time!

The pandemic is exactly one of such moments when she

cries for humanity. Let us call on her without hesitation

and with our whole heart: Mother of God, help us!

Maica Domnului, Ajută-ne!

Suntem în Postul Adormirii Maicii Domnului. Pentru cei

ce-L iubesc pe Domnul (Iisus Hristos!) și Calea Sa

(Biserica!) este folositor să facem o pauză și să reflectăm la

darurile maternității Fecioarei Maria față de noi. Ea este

Maica noastră în Ceruri! Ce paradox: Fecioară și Mamă!

Așa ceva nu este cu putință decât la Dumnezeu, Cel care a

ales-o ca mijloc ca El să fie ca noi și noi ca El.

Noi toți ne gândim cu nostalgie la mama noastră, iar unii

realizează cât de dulce și mângăietor este să ai o mamă!

Simțim astfel deoarece calitatea de mama include:

ocrotirea, iubirea, rugăciunea, jertfă de sine. Cât este de

bine să ai pe cineva cu astfel de calități să te țină în brațe!

Maria a devenit Maica lui Iisus, Dumnezeu și om adevărat,

Disponibilitatea ei ca să lase pe Domnul să lucreze prin ea

înseamnă nespus de mult pentru noi. Ea s-a bazat pe

Dumnezeu fără ezitare, iar El nu a dezamăgit-o. După

Înviere, El nu a lăsat trupul ei feciorelnic să cunoască

stricăciunea, ci l-a ridicat la Cer. Astfel, Maria ne arată și

nouă ce urmează în viața celor ce cred. În Cana Galileii, ea

ne învață că și noi putem primi darul învierii, dacă facem

ceea ce ne spune Iisus.

Căt de minunat este să fii veșnic iubit, binecuvântat și

susținut în mâinile unei Mame veșnice ca ea! Pentru

aceasta, să postim în onoarea ei, gătindu-ne de marea întâl-

nire cu Dumnezeu! De vom face asta, nicicând nu ne vom

rușina să-i cerem ajutorul la ceas de încercare. Pandemia

este una din acele situații când ea plânge pentru omenire.

Veniți fără ezitare să o strigăm din toată inima: Maica

Domnului, ajută-ne!

gem.

pregătească și să ne aducă una sau mai

Între Marta şi Maria (re-tipărit)

Dumnezeu ne cheamă să-L urmăm, iar răspunsul

nostru pendulează de obicei între două atitudini. Una este

definită prin rugăciune, contemplaţie şi scufundare în

căutarea duhovnicească a uniunii cu Dumnezeu. Cealaltă

este marcată de acţiune, fapte bune şi viaţă de slujire.

Evanghelia de la Sfântul Luca 10, 38-42 ne oferă pilda

concretă a Martei şi Maria, surorile lui Lazăr, cel înviat

din morţi.

Between Martha and Mary (reprinted)

Our response to God’s invitation to follow Him

most commonly oscillates between two attitudes. One is

defined by prayer, contemplation and personal immersion

in the spiritual quest for union with Christ. The other is

marked by action, good deeds and a life of service. The

Gospel reading of St. Luke 10,38-42 provides us with the

concrete example of Martha and Mary, who are the sisters

of Lazarus.

Martha is the poster child for the ministry of hos-

pitality, a doer. Mary, in turn, is a contemplative who “sat

at the feet of Jesus and heard His word.” Serving alone

and overwhelmed by worries, Martha asks the Lord to

compel Mary to help her. Amazingly, Jesus who recog-

nizes that the soul is the engine of the body, calms her

down. He even admonishes her that she is “worried and

troubled about many things” and He praises Mary who

has chosen “the good part.” This will never be taken away

from her, He says.

We are between Martha and Mary. Both are

“sisters,” both love the Lord and the Lord loved both of

them. Both follow and receive Him, one in her house, the

other in her heart. They stand as bright examples of faith

and complete each other. Without the Lord, the two sisters

would have nothing in common. Through Him we realize

that without the faith - “the good part” – our discipleship

is not sufficiently grounded. One could argue: “Faith

without deeds is dead” the other: “Without Me you cannot

accomplish anything.” During this time of fast, let us find

out what are we lacking and how can we amend our life in

Christ. Love of God must be translated into action and our

deeds should spring forth from our pure union with God.

Ultimately, it is Christ who brings the two sisters and us in

full communion.

Marta este exemplul tipic al ospitalităţii creştine, un om de acţiune. Pe de altă parte, Maria este o fire contem-

plativă care “şedea la picioarele lui Iisus şi asculta cuvântul Lui.” Slujind singură şi copleşită de griji, Marta cere

Domnului să-i spună Mariei să o ajute. Cunoscând valoarea experienţei spirituale asupra trupului, Iisus o linişteşte. Ba

o şi mustră spunându-i că “se îngrijeşte” de prea multe şi că doar un „singur lucru trebuieşte.” El subliniază faptul că

Maria a ales „partea cea bună, care nu se va lua de la ea.”

Noi suntem totdeauna între Marta şi Maria, două simboluri şi două extreme, dar “surori.” Domnul le iubeşte

egal, iar ele iubesc pe Dumnezeu. Ambele Îl primesc: una în casă, alta în inima ei. Ele strălucesc ca două exemple de

credinţă şi se completează una pe alta. Fără El, cele două surori nu ar avea nimic în comun. Prin El înţelegem că fără

„partea cea bună,” ucenicia Creştină nu poate fi completă. Unii pot argumenta: „credinţa fără fapte moartă este.” Dar,

în acelaşi timp, să pricepem spusa: “Fără Mine nu veţi putea face nimic.” De aceea, în acest post să ne cercetăm pe noi

înşine căutând să îndreptăm ce ne lipseşte. Iubirea de Hristos se cere tradusă în faptă, iar fapta să ne ivorască din

unirea cu Dumnezeu. În cele din urmă, Hristos este Cel care le aduce pe cele două surori şi pe noi în comuniune

deplină.
