ABSTRACT Most of the masonry bridges cover a significant portion of European, German, Italy road and rail network. As the time passes, quality of bridge material has been getting deteriorated by weathering process and due to development of defects the structural verification of such bridges is very generally needed because of several actions, in fact there is no universal method for it, and various non linear analysis has been done like, non linear static analysis, non linear dynamic analysis and incremental dynamic analysis. This paper helps us to draw information about masonry arch bridges by considering various defects. The choice of node on finite element model is also investigated. A deep understanding is essential for analysis of such bridges because they are designed on the basis of traditional methods. Modeling strategy is used in comprehensive study to know about the parameters of masonry arch bridges, results shows that how these parameters affect the masonry arch bridges properties like failure mechanisms, ultimate load capacity. This paper basically focus on effects of various parameters in modeling, node location, failure mechanisms of arch barrels ,assessment methods ,finally model has been prepared by using ABAQUS and various modeling strategy. Keywords – Non linear analysis, parameters affecting arch, abaqus modeling. I. INTRODUCTION The Romans person was the primary who understands the value of arch system for construction of bridges. The event for movement of armies troops, general public, easy flow of vehicle, yet for grow of built of area, it was important to spread our empire for rulers of that time so transport is one of the basic medium. Building of bridge was a key part of the underlying Roman infrastructure. In Europe from that time to present era there was a construction of a lot of masonry bridges. Most of those bridges are still in commission, despite all these loads of traffic is very much more than the design value, then the question arise that how they sustain upto that load. Question is hidden in the quality of construction. masonry arches with time are getting their quality degrading because of long load of traffic, huge vibrations, settlement cause due to load, natural factor like wind rain, earthquake, cyclones, alternate drying and wetting etc. when all these factors are collectively studies than there is progressively induction of material degradation it means value of mechanical properties are get there quality downfall and there are some type of defects in bridge that is ring separation in arch barrels, piers in cracks, loss in bricks quality and distortion in the arch profile and out of plane rotation of spandrel walls within the last 30 years, several procedures are developed so as to judge the behavior of masonry arch bridges. The issue in representing the behavior of the fabric and therefore the resistant skeleton requires the employment of a simplified but effective structural model. The developed methodologies, which can be supported Limit Analysis and nonlinear incremental techniques.(Cavicchi and Gambarotta 2005) diagram of Masonry Bridge is shown in figure 1.
