Only use one module size per row! Radius areas are filled in accordance with A11.

B3

Fill packing chambers row by row by using corresponding modules, filling modules and accessories.

B4

Remove the VASK before continuing with installation. The pre-press time should be > 60 minutes in order to be effective.

In the case of pressure requirements: Filling modules FM for filling up the packing chambers must be no larger than FM-60/00!

B6 B7

One wedge seal KAD for each chamber width (see A2 info): KAD-60, KAD-120 and KAD-180 (relaxed height = 40 mm)

B12

Prior to installation, coat the gliding surfaces of the KAD (wedge seals), especially the wedges, with GK installation Lubricant!

B13

Fill up module rows with cable or filling modules or ZWP up to „Hmax“, using additional VAS if required!

The remaining space (min. 40 mm) will be required for the KAD. Do not use any VAS between the frame and the KAD!

B9 B10

Pull the cables into the packing chamber. Module installation starts on the bottom row. Every module series ends with VAS-Metal anchor plates.

If VAS-Metal are above or below, do not place them directly on the packing frame. Use a ZWP (tween plate) of at least 3 mm.

B2B1

The air gaps are reduced thanks to prior compression, making further installation easier. If instal-lation is interrupted, the modules are secured using the VPH (pre-press tool) and VASK (anchor clutch). The VPH can be removed; the modules will remain pressed into position.

B5

Before packing height „Hmax“ is reached, all required VAS-Metal must be predictively installed (VAS-Metal are counted with 0,5 mm for „Hmax“ !) Further VAS-Metal may be necessary for the installation of the KAD (wedge seal).

B8

If there are pressure requirements, comply with packing height „Hmax“ in order to achieve the required pressing force for the KAD! Fill up with ZWP (tween plates) or filling modules. In the case of ZWP greater than 5 mm, use VAS-Metal. Where type SPKh- are used, modules in the radius are not taken into account for „Hmax“.

B: Installation in bulkhead and deck with pressure requirement (gas and water-tight) only metal anchor plates VAS-Metal

Slide in the KAD until it stops. The KAD can be positioned anywhere; within the (radius) frame, the KAD is installed between two VAS.

B14

Tighten KAD nuts equally (using the wedge tool): Tighten „type A“ until the thread lies flush with the nut, and „type B“ special nut until it stops. Module offset max. 3 mm, do not place on the VAS edge! The compression process is OK if all visible gaps are closed, cables are pressed firmly between the module halves and GK installation Lubricant is oozing out. Maximum seal tightness is reached after 24 h!

C2 C3

VAS-HF are required to align the modules. Fill packing chambers row by row by using corresponding modules, filling modules and accessories.

In the case of transits without pressure requi-rements, up to two layers of modules can be installed per row between the VAS-HF (e.g. 60 & 4 x 30 or 40 & 4 x 20).

C4

Remove the VASK before continuing with installation. The pre-press time should be > 60 minutes in order to be effective.

C6

Packing height „H“: VAS-HF are taken into account with 1 mm per VAS-HF. The permissible packing height lies between „H“ and „Hmax“ (see B11).

C8

If there are no pressure requirements, comply at least with packing height „H“ in order to achie-ve the required pressing force for the KAD! Fill up with ZWP (tween plates) or filling modules. From a ZWP row of 5 mm, end with a VAS. Where type SPKh- are used, modules in the radius are not taken into account for „H“. The correct packing height lies between „H“ and „Hmax“ (see B11).

Pull the cables into the packing chamber. Module installation starts on the bottom row. Each module row is sealed with a VAS-HF (plastic anchor plate).

C1

The air gaps are reduced thanks to prior compression, making further installation easier. If instal-lation is interrupted, the modules are secured using the VPH (pre-press tool) and VASK (anchor clutch). The VPH can be removed; the modules will remain pressed into position.

The remaining space (min. 40 mm) will be required for the KAD. Do not use any VAS between the frame and the KAD!

The GK toolbox, containing various practice-inspired tools, makes installing packing systems easier. It includes pre-press tools of various sizes, installation tools and specific measuring tools.

Remove the KAD and only reuse it if the KAD is undamaged and intact. Intact VAS-Metal can be reused!

D3

In the case of transits without a pressure requirement, fill up the affected row comple-tely with new modules, and with a pressure requirement fill up the frame completely with new modules and accessories.

D4

Lubricant module halves, insert the lower module halves into the frames, insert the upper halves at a slight angle into the frames and press in with slight pressure or a short blow with the hammer.

D5

Re-Lubricant the KAD before installation. Only use undamaged KAD. Important: Follow steps B14 info and C12 info carefully! Maximum pressure resistance is reached after 24 h!

To open the packing chamber, loosen the KAD nuts one by one and, with hammer blows on the nut(s), loosen the KAD wedges until the KAD is completely relaxed.

D1

Using a flat object, loosen the KAD plates from VAS or modules and unclamp the KAD at the 40 mm starting height.

This GK Packing System is a modular based system of sealing products consisting of different compo-nents. Each and every one of the components is necessary for the best performance of the GK Packing System. It has been certified to resist a number of different hazards. Any such certification, and the ability of the GK Packing System to resist such hazards, is dependent on all components that are installed as a part of the GK Packing System. GK Toolbox

D: Dismantling and changes in the reverse sequence (see A; B; C)

General note:The GK packing system is a type-approved and safety-relevant element of shipbuilding and must be used accordingly. Initial installation puts the plastic material

under considerable compressive force and distorts it to a degree in order to achieve the required fire resistance class and any required pressure resistance. Depending on the time, temperature and other environmental influences, material that has already been installed should not be reused in cases of uncertainty.

Corrections to incorrectly installed transits must be made promptly after initial installation before the Lubricant agent has dried and the installation shows signs of setting.
