Special Thank You On behalf of our sacristans, priests, and

other staff members at St Alphonsus

Liguori, we would like to recognize

Bev and Joe Cegala.

The couple moved to Zionsville when

their children were young, and chose to

live in Colony Woods because they wanted a neighborhood

close to the parish. Shortly thereafter, Bev became a

sacristan, and Joe faithfully helped her in this role. However,

as they head into their 70th year of marriage, the time has

come for them to pass the baton on to other parishioners.

Thank you, Bev and Joe, for the many years of service and

love you have given to our parish. God bless you both!

NOTE: Please give prayerful consideration to becoming a

sacristan at our parish; sacristans set up the items needed for

the liturgy. You would be scheduled an average of once a

month, less during the summer months.

If you are interested in serving our parish in this capacity,

(especially at 10:30 AM Mass), please contact the parish

office or email

[email protected].

Thank you!

Evangelization

Liturgy and Life by Tim McManus, Pastoral Associate of Worship

At some point in your life, you have probably been the

recipient of late-breaking news in your world of friends and

family. When inquiring as to where the reporter received

this news, the phrase “I heard it through the grapevine” may

be the answer. The origin of the phrase is associated with the

aural communication black slaves of the Civil War era used

to get messages to one another. The grapevine was the

human network conveying news and information.

Today the grapevine is usually associated with “news” that

is actually rumor or gossip. There is even a popular song

from the last century that takes its title from that phrase.

While the message content may be murky, what is clear

about the grapevine is that there is a message source and the

connectivity for the transmission of the message.

Jesus uses the image of the grapevine and its branches in

today’s Gospel to describe how we are connected to Him –

the source of Christian life.

Jesus said to his disciples:

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.

He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit,

and every one that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.

You are already pruned because of the word I spoke to

you.” (John 15: 1-3)

“I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in

me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me

you can do nothing.” (John 15: 5)

At every liturgical celebration we receive our pruning

because at each one the Word of God is revealed to us

through proclamation of the Readings. At the end of the first

and second readings we hear, “The Word of the Lord” to

which we reply “Thanks be to God.” At the end of the

Gospel we hear “The Gospel of the Lord” to which we

reply, “Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.” And so, there we

have it – our pruning for the week.

Perhaps we should go out and tell the world: I heard it

through the grapevine.

Worship Notes Ascension of the Lord:

In the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana, this solemnity

will be observed on Sunday, May 13, as opposed to

Thursday, May 10.

Confirmation:

Bishop Doherty will preside at the Confirmation Mass

on May 6 at 5 PM.

There are NO CONFESSIONS on Saturday, May 19.

There is NO 7:30 AM Mass on Saturday, May 19.

Have you been looking to become more involved at church?

Do you enjoy music and singing, even if it is just in your

car? Would you love to do both of these and even have your

kids involved too?

St. Alphonsus Liguori’s Vacation Bible School Music/

Songs co-leader is the right thing for you!

VBS is June 25 - 29 from 9 AM – noon each day, and we are

looking for an additional volunteer to complete the Music/

Songs duo and lead this rotation. This is where the kiddos

learn the upbeat, faith-filled songs of the program, including

fun hand motions. There are even music videos to help teach

the songs and motions! This is truly one of the best aspects

of VBS, especially seeing all the children singing their hearts

out, sharing what they’ve learned each day.

If you are interested or know anyone who may be perfect for

this role, please email [email protected].

We are so excited for this year’s Vacation Bible School, and

we’d love to have you join us!

Registration is now open for Vacation Bible School!

June 25 - 29

To register, go to www.zionsvillecatholic.com/vbs.

School ‘Dine to Donate’ fundraiser!

5PM, to our VBS program. Please support our parish and

this exciting summer event for our children!

Haiti “Gift of Water” Campaign

During the first two weeks of May,

the Haiti Mission of St. Alphonsus

Liguori will conduct their annual

Gift of Water campaign to raise

funds to bring clean water to our

sister parish, St. Anthony of Padua,

in Croix Fer, Haiti.

The Haiti Mission partners with Gift

of Water, a non-profit organization,

to provide clean, filtered and available drinking water to

improve the health of impoverished children and families.

Since 2012, approximately 750 water filtration units have

been purchased. Thanks to this generous on-going support,

the community of Croix Fer has been cholera free for 2

years!

This year’s Gift of Water campaign will allow us to

maintain the supplies required for on-going usage, repairs

and replacement of water treatment units. We ask for your

prayerful consideration to donate $40 to provide a water

filtration unit and supplies for a household in Croix Fer,

Haiti.

Donations may be made in the name of a loved one and

make a great gift alternative!
