Programs are designed to help golfers reach their performance goals.Golf specific movements, those identified as critical for making a successful swing, will be targeted. Initially, we address flexibility and mobility. By restoring proper movement patterns, strength can then be builtsafely and effectively. Core and Glute strength are a main focus. This golffitness program can help improve consistency, increase power and stamina, and help with overall better movement. This program has also helped reduce back pain in some individuals.

Connie works with non-golfers as well. She has helped many people with their fitness and weight loss goals. She also worked for 2 years with chronic pain patients at a pain clinic. 17 of 18 patients who were seen regularly in the program did not need further injections.

Whether your goal is to improve your golf game or to lose weight and get in shape, we have a program to help you.

Connie will be at the Club Tuesday afternoons from 1pm - 5pmand one Saturday a month. You can call the Pro Shop to make a one on one appointment or have a complimentary 15 minute equipment orientation Tuesday, February 21st and 28th.

Greetings Creekside members!! Well January willdefinitely go down in the weather record books asa pretty rough one. While we didn’t receive the8-12 inches of snow like Portland we got our fairshare that covered the course for much longerthan anyone wanted. Thankfully the golf coursefared very well through the prolonged snow andice cover. As you venture out and play the coursethis coming month you will definitely notice the dif-ference in turf conditions of several of the greens.Creekside is very unique in that it has some verydramatic microclimates throughout the course. The greens that are tucked back up against thehillside such as holes 2, 3, 4, 5, 15, & 17 live ina much different environment than the rest of thegreens on the course. They struggle in growthdue to low light and cold conditions. This differ-ence in growth is seen quite significantly whenyou compare them to greens such as 8, 9, 11,12, 13, 14, 16, and 18. Greens that receivemore direct sunlight, warmer conditions, and bet-ter air flow have much greater turf density, moregrowth, better color, and can withstand heavyfoot traffic with less damage.

Here are few maintenancestrategies we implement tohelp the weaker greens:taking them out of play (let-ting them rest) protectingthem from foot traffic dam-age, adding some extra fer-tilizer nutrients, handmowing (keeping the largerequipment off of them), andless mowing (allowing themto grow).

Last spring we went out andre-marked many of the teeboxes and fairways. Manyof our mowing patterns getlost or changed over thecourse of the year. We willagain re-evaluate our mow-ing patterns and try to main-tain the proper patterns that

keep tees pointing the correct direction and helpenhance the aesthetic contours of the fairways.

Moss Control: Moss in lawns is a chronic prob-lem in the northwest. Golf courses also strugglewith controlling the encroachment of moss. Wewill be making efforts to control some moss thathas invaded a few of our putting greens. We will

be using repeated applications of Iron on thesegreens. A side effect of this control procedure willbe these greens will become very dark green as itturns the moss black. We will also spot treat mosson other greens which again will turn the mossblack as it kills the moss.

TURF TIP: If your lawn is looking yellow try to finda low nitrogen high iron fertilizer to spread on it.The numbers on the bag for nitrogen should be15% or below and the iron content is between 5-10%. Do you have lots of moss? Get a bag ofstraight granular iron (ferrous sulfate) and put thisdown at a rate of about 20-40lbs per 1000 feet. You can put this down at most any time. The rainwill wash it in and begin to turn the moss black.Heavy moss areas may require repeat applica-tions. You may have to rake out the moss after itdies and over seed some of these areas if yourgrass is thin. Warning: do not get this product onconcrete…it will stain it. It may also stain yourclothing…so wear your grubbies.

Yes, we will be keeping a close eye out for theselittle guys! (see above photo) Proper timing forcontrolling the Crane fly grubs will be coming inthe next month or two. Last year’s control wasvery successful. We plan on repeating this andexpanding our efforts.

Spring will be just around the corner! I look for-ward to seeing Creekside come alive with greatgolfing conditions and seeing all of you out enjoy-ing this beautiful course!!
