JUNE/JULY 2020

Hey everyone,

This is a strange and difficult time. We are all

concerned about what the corona virus means

for our health, our livelihood, families and

communities, both in the short and long term.

There’s still a great deal of uncertainty.

One thing we need to do is be smart and cut

down on unnecessary trips. Hopefully Doctors

and science will come up with a vaccine soon. In

the meantime, let’s all do our part so we can be

together soon. Remember, it’s not for yourself

it’s for your family, too.

I talked to some of the ACSC (SOS) officers

last week. SOS is still a go right now, but they

are concerned. They have been talking to the

City about the parade, but the city has not

okayed it yet. So, it’s up in the air right now.

SOS is still a while away but, I’m giving the

information as I get it.

We all have Dreams and Visions for our club. I

feel sometimes that our dreams have been put

on hold, but we have to continue to Dream and

think about improving our club. Let’s all keep

dreaming and share our ideas.

Enjoy the little things in life for someday you

will realize they were the big things.

History of R&B (found in our History Archives)

Press Release May 12, 1982

Rhythm N’ Blues/ Beach Music Hall of Fame

480 N Church St

Spartanburg, SC

Across from Wofford College

Officers: President: Jimmy High

1st Vice Pres: Frank Sossamon

2ndVice Pres: Joe Cash

Secretary: Shirley Poole

Treasurer: Anne Scruggs

The Rhythm N’ Blues/Beach Music Hall of Fame was

founded in 1981. The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to

preserve the unique form of American Music-Rhythm N’

Blues and a portion of it presently so popular in the

southeast-Beach Music; and to honor those artists,

songwriters, disc jockeys, executives, and others who had

an integral part in creating, performing, promotion or

anything else to do with this music.

Rhythm N’ Blues is the forerunner of the biggest music

phenomenon in musical history-Rock & Roll-and yet when

honors for Rock & Roll have been passed out, it is as

though it all began with Elvis Presley or The Beatles.

Members of the Hall of Fame feel that these non-honored

people, especially the performing artists were some of

the most talented in history. Who can forget Roy

Hamilton, Jackie Wilson, Fats Domino, The Drifters,

The Coasters, The Platters, Otis Redding, Billy

Stewart, The Clovers, Clyde McPhatter and many

others. Believe it or not they have been almost non-

recognized for either their talents or their contributions.

In addition, the financial exploitation of these artists

would make for a good horror story. The Rhythm N’ Blues

Hall of Fame is out to rectify this inequity!

FUTURE EVENTS: 1. A fund raising concert Wednesday,

June 2, 1982 at the Spartanburg, SC Fairgrounds

beginning at 7:00 PM. Artists performing are – The

Clovers, The Diamonds, The Tams, Billy Scott & The

Georgia Prophets and The Catalinas. Tickets are $10.00

in advance and $12.00 at the gate.

2. August, 1982-the first inductees will be announced.

Also to be announced will be the date and location of the

induction ceremonies.

3. Miscellaneous events throughout the year-to be

announced as scheduled.
