L a dinámica del comercio exte-

rior en las últimas décadas ha

impulsado un rápido crecimien-

to de la demanda de los puertos

de la Región de Valparaíso, en

Chile, en particular la carga

transportada en contenedores. Es así como

de los 17,9 millones de toneladas trans-

feridos en el Puerto San Antonio durante

el año 2017, 65% correspondió a carga de para transferir 6 millones de TEUs (Twenty

foot equivalent unit) anuales en dos termi-

nales de 3 millones de TEUs cada uno, este

puerto se desarrollará por etapas. Hacia

2026 o 2027 debiese entrar en operación la

primera etapa y de allí en adelante, el Puer-

to Exterior crecerá en fases, agregado 1,5

millones de TEUs de capacidad cada cinco

años, culminando su desarrollo en torno

al año 2041 conforme al crecimiento de la

demanda”, adelanta Daniel Roth.

Cada terminal tendrá una longitud de

contenedores. Por su parte, en los últimos

siete años, el número de contenedores

transferidos en los puertos de la V Región

aumentó en un 24%. “Puerto San Antonio ha venido traba-

jado en inversiones y obras, tanto propias

como junto a nuestros concesionarios. Estas

corresponden a la extensión del frente de

atraque y la incorporación de nuevo equipa-

miento en el terminal San Antonio Terminal

Internacional (STI), con lo que totalizará 900

metros de frente de atraque. Junto con ello,

muelle de 1.730 m, permitiendo el atraque

simultáneo de cuatro grandes naves portac-

ontenedores clase E (eslora 397 m, manga

56,4 m, calado 15,5 m y capacidad de

15.000 TEUs) y una superficie de acopio de

más de 96 hectáreas, suficiente para operar

anualmente hasta 3 MM TEUs cada una.

El diseño se completa con un canal de

acceso y el dragado de la zona de reviro y

la dársena interior de 18,5 metros de pro-

fundidad que asegura la accesibilidad de las

naves portacontenedores clase E, incluso en

el desarrollo de un nuevo frente de atraque

de 700 metros en el terminal multipropósi-

to a cargo de la empresa Puerto Central

(PCE)”, comenta a Daniel Roth, gerente de

Proyecto de Puerto Exterior (PGE).Puerto ExteriorEn su Plan Maestro, Puerto San Antonio se

ha propuesto desarrollar el Puerto Exterior

de San Antonio, emplazado al sur oeste del

puerto actual, especializado en la transfer-

encia de contenedores. “Con una capacidad

condiciones meteorológicas muy exigentes

(2 m de altura de ola y vientos de hasta
