Dear Esteemed Colleagues,

It is time for us to look forward to congregate once again at our Annual National Conference that is

being held at Ranchi, in Jharkhand state, from 5 th to 8 th February 2018.

Jharkhand is an ancient land. Mother Nature is at her munificent best here - showering the blessed

land with unending thick forests and immense mineral wealth. The Damodar Valley of this state is

very rightly called as the “Ruhr of India”! The virile indigenous and other inhabitants of this state are

great soldiers and excel in sports. The capital city Ranchi which most aptly traces its name to a

bamboo grove is now known all over the world because it is home to a cricket icon called Dhoni.

Ranchi is an education hub of high quality in this part of the country.

Ranchi’s connection to psychiatry is something that is worthy to be inscribed on stone. Central

Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), born initially as the European Mental Asylum in 1918, has been the

nursery of psychiatry in India. The very first steps of modern psychiatry in India were taken here. The

institute continues to steam vigorously ahead on the golden rails laid by persons with vision! CIP’s

contribution to Indian Psychiatric Society is no less important. Some of the Society’s Greats had left

their indelible foot prints here.

We are assembling at the hollowed place throbbing with history, memories, enthusiasm, energy,

professional excellence and above all abiding commitment to march ahead into the future. Coming

here will be nothing short of pilgrimage for us all.

Ranchi is always cool. In February it will be cool enough to make us come together seeking the

warmth of professional exchanges with kindred souls from across the globe. ANCIPS 2018 will give

us a unique opportunity to have a perspective of a century of psychiatry in India. It will also give us an

opportunity to take stock of what we have and what we can have to march ahead with firm steps in

tandem to deliver quality mental health service to our people.

The itinerant delegate must also plan to visit the many waterfalls of the state, seek audience with its

tigers and elephants; touch the fabric of its vibrant culture and the “Chhonka” of Jharkhand cuisine!

The organising committee headed by Prof. D. Ram and Dr. Sanjay Kumar Munda is working

tirelessly to make ANCIPS 2018 an unforgettable aesthetic and intellectual experience for us all.

Let us collect at the “Bamboo Grove City” in full strength to update our knowledge; discuss,

deliberate and plan for our future and pursue our quest for excellence.

Dear Esteemed Colleagues,

Johar!

Greetings from the Organising Committee of ANCIPS 2018!

As the date of 70th Annual National Conference of Indian Psychiatric Society (ANCIPS 2018) is thapproaching, we are thrilled to announce that we are ready to welcome you all on 5 February 2018

at Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi for ANCIPS 2018 with good cheer.

Ranchi, the capital city of the tribal heartland of Jharkhand, has its old world colonial charm even

now. There are many destinations worth a visit such as Betla National Park (Palamau), Hazaribagh

Wildlife Sanctuary, Netarhat, Rajrappa, Parasnath, Deoghar and many picturesque falls surrounding

Ranchi.Tropic of Cancer passes through Kanke, just nearby the conference venue, making it the

only state in India touched by Tropic of Cancer. Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), our conference

venue, has been a premier institution in mental health in India. The serene campus of CIP which

spreads across 212 plus acres of land, offers the latest medical advances in an environment that

promotes mental health and enhances a sense of wellbeing. With advent of its centenary

celebrations, the institute vows to embark a new journey for re-development as an institute of

national importance in India. As part of the centenary celebrations, Indian Psychiatric Society gave

us the opportunity and responsibility to hold this prestigious conference which is all set to provide a

platform for the mental health professionals to share their knowledge and valuable experiences. The

conference venue at CIP is a mix of hanger based halls and existing halls of CIP. In all we have 12

halls for the smooth conduct of plenary lectures, 100 symposia, workshops and nearly five hundred

paper presentations.

The choice of brain and one of the wards of CIP in the logo is conscious and deliberate. The theme of

the conference is “A Journey in Psychiatry: From Morals to Molecules”. By choosing this theme,

we hoped to highlight that though psychiatry is a branch of medicine, its practice, across time, has

collateral influences from various allied sciences like philosophy, psychology, sociology, etc.

Accordingly, we have planned a stimulating scientific program which will definitely enrich your

scientific and academic pursuits.

The enthusiasm of colleagues has been heart-warming and we already have a decent number of

registered delegates on board, both from the country and overseas.

We very much look forward to welcoming you in ANCIPS 2018 at CIP Ranchi !
