A HOLY SPIRIT MOMENT DURING THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM!
July 18, 2021 | 18 de julio de 20212
My Dear People,
In the Gospel today, the apostles return from their first mission of preaching and healing and report to Jesus. He takes them to a “deserted” place to rest and regroup, but people find them and continue coming. Jesus and the apostles even try to escape by boat to the other side of the lake, but that, too, is foiled once word gets out. This incident in Mark’s Gospel comes right before the feeding of multitudes and offers us important insights into ministry in the life of the Church: The mission of the Church does not come from mass marketing techniques or publicity strategies, but from the Gospel of compassion that we seek to love and to share. It comes from the authority of our commitment to forgiveness and reconciliation. Leadership, inspired by the wisdom of God, means not dictating and ruling over others but inspiring, providing for, and selflessly caring for all we are called to lead. I wish to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to Rachel Ingham for her service over the last two years as the Assistant to the Director of Elementary Faith Development. Rachel has served well in this position and is now once again working in her field as an engineer. I am grateful for her dedication to serving our children in the Faith Development Program. We have recently hired Rebecca Luna as Rachel’s replacement. Rebecca will be serving in a dual role: Assistant to the Director of Elementary Faith Development and as a Counselor in our After School Program. Rebecca is a cradle Catholic from Dallas, TX. She was very involved in her youth group growing up and did faith development work with kindergarteners and third graders while in college. She is currently a Life Teen Missionary working at Camp Cove Crest in Georgia. Rebecca has served as Youth Ministry Intern, a Student Teacher and an Event Planner. She attended Creighton University and the University of Dallas. We look forward to Rebecca becoming a part of our parish community and serving our Faith Development and School students. Rebecca will begin with us in September. This Wednesday, new officers for our Knights of Columbus Council will be installed. Greg Kleiman has been elected as the new Grand Knight. Greg will serve our council and his brother Knights well. Thank you to Bill Jackson, our outgoing Grand Knight, for the many ways he exemplified the four principles of the Knights of Columbus: Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. Any man interested in learning more about the Knights and the good work that they do can contact Greg at Kleiman at [email protected]. In His Love,
Queridos Todos,

REFLECT
FIRST READING The prophet Jeremiah spoke of God’s negative reaction to “the shepherds” (false rulers) who neglected and mislead his “sheep” (the people of Israel and Judah). What characteristics make for an ideal leader?
SECOND READING Paul taught the Ephesians that through his cross and resurrection, Jesus established unity and peace for all believers. When have you experienced harmony in your faith community?
GOSPEL Jesus encouraged the apostles to retreat and rest after their successful missionary work, but the crowds made that difficult. What gets in your way from resting and retreating?

Re-Use Table Next Sunday!
“God of love, show us our place in this world as channels of your love for all the creatures of this earth, for not one of them is forgotten in your sight.” (Laudato Si’, final prayer).
Can we enlarge our view so that we consider all as our neighbor, as part of our community? Can we see ourselves as “channels of your love”? We cannot hope to solve our environmental crises unless we find our hope in being channels of love. Working together with our neighbors, working united with the God of love, we can make “the commons” a better place for all.
Next weekend, July 24-25 is the 4th Sunday collection. We’ll make sure the batteries are removed from the waste stream and the glasses, natural corks, plastic corks, and cell phones are re-used.
Our Solar Project Has Started!
Work crews from Yes Solar started installation on the gym roof on July 12! Look up!
Soon this first project will be completed and connected to the Duke Energy grid, and St. Thomas More will begin producing some of its own energy. We’ll be helping Creation, helping the poor in Tanzania and around the world by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. And we’ll be reducing St. Thomas More Church’s electricity bills once the project is completed.
One step for St. Thomas More in implementing Laudato Si’.

Spiritual Direction is an ancient tradition within the historic Church whereby an individual seeks to grow closer to God with the help of another person who is capable of helping him or her hear the Spirit within. It is about listening to God with the desire to know and do God's will, and grow in love of God and charity toward self and others.
