Helping Learning plans to be the global leader in the provision of online support for learners of all ages, no matter where they are in the world.

If you are interested in being part of this innovative and exciting venture you will need to register with us.

To ensure the safety of young people under 18 they will only be connected to teachers who have an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure.

To use the Helping Learning service, you will need to have access to the internet using a pc with a microphone and speakers or a headset. The use of a webcam could enhance the service that you can offer.

As we use Skype, the free internet telephony service, you will need to download their free software before registering.

You can access the Teacher Area from our home page.

U.K. teachers

To register you will need your DfES/Teacher Reference Number.

If you are not a qualified teacher you will appear on the list as unqualified.

We will then contact you to request further information.

If you are a teacher who is not registered with the GTC we will require additional information from you before we can allow you use of the Helping Learning service.

Non - UK teachers

Please complete the standard registration form with as much detail as is appropriate.

As part of our checking process we will require evidence of your teaching qualifications, any police clearance that you have been given to work with young people and two professional references.

We will contact you if we require further information.

TESL teachers

Please complete the standard registration form with as much detail as is appropriate.As part of our checking process we will require evidence of your TESL teaching qualifications, any police clearance that you have been given to work with young people and two professional references.

We will contact you if we require further information.

The information that you provide will be stored on our secure server.

We will not share this information with anyone else.

Once we have satisfactorily processed your registration you will receive a username and password.

These will enable you to offer your professional help through Helping Learning.

Using the password and username you can access your area on our website.

Here you can make alterations to your personal details; alter, or request payment of your fees and deal with other aspects of your account.

Once registered you will need to complete your account details.

This will include the name that you wish to be known by on the screen, the fee that you will charge and also your Skype details.

You can return to this page and alter the details at any time.

The next task is to download our Client software on to your computer.

Once downloaded our software will appear in your program list.

Just click on it when you want to go online with Helping Learning.

Once you have clicked to log in, the window can be minimised until you wish to log out.

As soon as you log in you will appear on the list of teachers who are available to give help with the set of subjects you have declared.

You are automatically removed from this list during the time you are helping a student or when you log out.

When a student selects you from the list of available teachers, you will receive a message on your computer screen.

To contact the student, click on the ‘place call’ button.

When you place the call, the student will be able to accept or decline it.

During your conversation with the student, you may find it helpful to use a webcam to see each other or to share an image of the work.

“Teachers can request payment of their fees at

anytime”

When you close down the call, the student will be invited to rate the help that you have given.

Provided that the call exceeded 30 seconds, your account will be credited with 85% of the stated fee and you will return to the list of available teachers.

The family account will have been reduced by the agreed fee.

As well as providing short, instant help for learners, our teachers can also set up longer teaching or tutoring sessions.

These can be individual or groups of lessons and students are able to book them in advance

For the time being Helping Learning will be ‘open’ for business from 6–9 p.m. on weekdays.

We hope that the numbers of registered families will increase rapidly so that it will be worthwhile asking teachers to log on at anytime – 24/7.
