JANUARY 26, 2020 3Brimming with enthusiasm
A student of Smt Srekala Bharath, Oviya was brimmingwith
enthusiasm.
She began her recital with a high spirited Pushpanjaliin Ragham
Arabhi, a composition by Dr M BalamuraliKrishna. Followed by that
was a Kumara kavuttuvamin Ragamalika, composed by Madurai
R.Muralidharan.
The next item was a Jatiswaram in Ragamalika andMisrachappu
which proved to be a challengingcomposition.
The varnam was a beautiful composition by Sri LalgudiG Jayaraman
titled Angayar Kaneer Anandam KondaalinRagamalika. The orchestra
consisted of ChitrambariKrishna Kumar on the vocals, M.Dhananjayan
on themridangam, N.Shikamani on the violin and Smt. SrekalaBharath
on the nattuvangam.
The second half of the recital continued with a Javali,Madhura
Nagarilo in Ragam Ananda Bhairavi. Lookingat the simple
interpretation taught to her for thisperformance, we can expect she
will also delve deeperon the lyrics in the years to come. Oviya
completedher recital with the lively Thillana in
RagamKadanakuthuhalam by Dr M Balamuralikrishna.
Neat Movements
The Annual Bharata Nritya Utsav hostedby Sri Parthasarathy Swamy
Sabha took offto a great start right after its inauguration, keeping
the spirit high throughout the firstweek of performances. Amongst
the line ofyoung, aspiring dancers was SamyukthaShankar, a disciple
of Revathy Narasimhanfrom Bangalore who decorated the stagevery
well with her earnest and sinceredancing.
Samyuktha began her recital with aPushpanjali in Ragam
Hamsadwani followedby a short Ganesha Stuthi. Neat movementscoupled
with crisp aramandi at the rightplaces set a good precedent for a
heavymargam. She then moved on to perform theevergreen Swamiye Vara
Cholladi by SriDandayudha Pani Pillai in RagamPurvikalyani. Slow
paced jatis andaddressing the Lord through manydescriptive hands
without prolonging thepiece was well put together. The emphasislaid
on the episode between Muruga(disguised as an old man) and Valli
was agood ice breaker to the fast paced recordedmusic.
Jagadodharana, an all-time favouriteto both connoisseurs was
Samyuktha’s nextchoice. She performed the piece but, with asurfaced
level understanding of the Vatsalyabhava with dedication.
The Chief Guest and Guest of HonourKalaimamani Thiru Ramji and
Smt. SudhaSwarnalakshmi were invited on stage tospeak a few words.
Their short but impactfulfeedback verified Samyuktha’s
dedicationtowards her performance. Although sheconcluded her
recital with a Javali, set toragam Kapi and composed by
DharmapuriSubbarayar, one did not seem to havemissed a Thillana
which generally serves asthe concluding piece in a
Bharatanatyamrecital.
A good team spirit by Sri Kala RangaSchool of danceIt was a
vibrant performance by a teamof young dancers from Sri Kala
RangaSchool of dance, along with theirteacher, Dr. Srithika
Kasturirangan.
The group comprising DeepaRamanathan, Manjari
Pradeep,RenukaSugavanam, AnerudhSrinivasan commenced
theirperformance with Natana PoojaiSeivom set in Hamsadhwani
Ragamand Rupaka Talam.
The team proceeded to the central piece of a repertoirewith the
famous Swami Naan UndhanAdimai popularly known as the Natakurinji
Varnam composed by Sri. Papanasam Sivan. The jathis composed
depicted the paraphernalia of the Lord of dance.
Deepa, Renuka and Anerudh moved on to Naan oru vilayatu bommaya
composed bySri.Papanasam Sivan and set to Navarasa Kannada Ragam
and Adi Talam. The puppetrymovements emulating the essence of the
song was an interesting watch.
Valli Kanavan Perai set in Ragam Chenchurutti and Adi Talam
performed by Dr. Srithikaresonated with Valli’s enthusiasm through
its crisp adavus and spirited abhinaya.
What else could have given the evening a youthful ending than
Dr. Balamurali Krishna’spopular Thillana in Kathanakuthukalam ragam
and Aditalam. The colourful costumes anda good team spirit simply
added to the aura.
