Bishop Jennifer
Brooke-Davidson
Visits St. Barnabas.
St. Barnabas begins 2019….
The Annual Parish Meeting is a time to give thanks for the blessings of the prior year and
reflect on the opportunities we had as a community to serve others in the image of Jesus.
On January 13, 2019, we recognized the service of three faithful Vestry members who
completed their terms in December. Julie Alvarez, Frances Money and John Sumners
provided amazing, forward thinking leadership during the past three years. We are grateful
for their devotion to St. Barnabas. Thank you for your guidance and launching us into the
future.
The next order of business was to elect four Vestry members whose terms will be 2019-2021.
It is with great pleasure that we welcome Alison Acton, Brandon Dickerson, Clayton Drescher
and Ginny Thomason as our newest Vestry class. These faithful parishioners will be invaluable
additions to our group. Although you have already been serving St. Barnabas, thank you for
generously agreeing to serve St. Barnabas in this capacity.
At the time I was writing this article, our parish was being well represented at the 115th
Diocesan Council of West Texas in McAllen, TX. The theme for the 2019 Council is “Walk in
Love” from Ephesians 5:2. Father Jeff, Father Bur, Carol Schreider, Debbie and Johnny Gordon
and Beth and Jimmy Davis attended this year’s Council. We will get a report on the journey of
this brilliant delegation in the near future. My appreciation to each of you for participating in
this leadership role.
The beginning of the Vestry’s work together as a body will begin with the Annual Vestry Retreat
on March 2, 2019. This will give us a great opportunity to look at how the vestry can function
effectively and to nurture growth. To this end, Pam and Jim Spruiell will present to and lead us
in a program that will assist us to listen to understand before trying to be understood when
communicating around difficult issues or in the shaping of policies.
Walk in Love and may Peace be with you wherever you are.

Guardian Angels Needed
For this Lent, we are beginning a new St Barnabas tradition. Guardian
Angels (adult volunteers) will be matched with our young people. Throughout
Lent, the Guardian Angels will pray daily for their matched child, all in secret!
At the end of Lent, a dinner will be held to introduce the children to their
Guardian Angels. If you would like to be a Guardian Angel during Lent,
please contact Karen Young ([email protected] or 830-285-1012) or call the church
