CALL TO CONFESSION PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison)

Eternal God, by your word you create and by your breath you give life. We worship you with joy and thanksgiving, praising you for the fullness that your presence brings to our lives, and our life together. We praise you that by your word you feed us; we are satisfied, and there is always more. Your goodness is displayed in your wonderful works for all humanity, and in your perfect love. In our humanity we are rebellious, and sometimes follow after foolish ideas; going ways which lead away from life with you… And yet, when we cry out you are there, your word healing our inner emptiness and pain, embracing us, leading us in your life-giving ways. For your unending faithfulness, revealed to us in Christ Jesus, and made present to us in your Holy Spirit we praise you, Lord God. Amen (Silence for personal confession)

SERMON “The Storms of Life” Rev. Anne Schaefer ORDINATION & INSTALLATION Carol Stoner, Deacon & Amy D’Urso, Elder AFFIRMATION OF FAITH THE APOSTLES’ CREED (in unison)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer is as Easy as 1...2...3… In his book Anxious for Nothing: Finding Calm in a Chaotic World, Max Lucado writes, “Fear triggers either despair or prayer. Choose wisely.” Choosing to pray in the face of crisis is what God calls us to do. We hope that in light of recent storms and unexpected attacks that you will choose to pray for families who have lost loved ones and for the many people who must rebuild their homes and lives. Our church is committing itself to pray for the many needs of our world, nation, and church on Thursday evenings in the form of a candlelit devotional service held at 9 pm. We know it is an unusual time but we believe at the end of the day it is so important to pause, reflect on God’s goodness, and pray committing our fear to God so that we may know the gift of God’s peace. To make it simple for us all to remember, we are declaring that prayer is as easy as 1, 2, 3. This is a simple way as a church to remember that on the first three Thursdays of each month we will gather in the sanctuary at 9pm for prayer. Everyone is welcome to attend this special time of worship and prayer.

8:30am – noon

We are grateful to announce that Malawi has enjoyed a bountiful 2017 growing season so famine is not a

concern this year! However, our sister church wants to learn agricultural methods which will reduce the

damaging effects of drought on their crops in the future. Please help the 2018 Launch Confirmation Class

raise funds to proactively address hunger concerns in Malawi in the future.

Thank you!

Come Join Early Word Bible Study in Exploring

Hebrews: Christ: Perfect Sacrifice, Perfect Priest

(MacArthur Bible Studies) Wednesdays, 7:30 – 8:30 AM

Beginning October 18, 2017 (12 Weeks)

Hearth Room The early Jewish believers had come from a background of legalism and works. When God came to earth in human flesh as the New Covenant, these believers discovered the freedom they could have in Jesus and the relationship they could enjoy with Him. Yet in the midst of persecution and rejection, they were often tempted to hold on to the former symbols, rituals, and traditions grounded in the requirements of the Old Covenant. The unknown author of Hebrews sought to address this problem by contrasting the Old and New Covenants, brilliantly showing that Christ is higher than any Old Testament character, priest, ritual, or sacrifice. Because of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, He is the perfect sacrifice and our own High Priest. And He has given all believers unfettered access to God! Stewardship 2018: We Are a Family of Faith…with stories

This year’s stewardship campaign focuses on our connection to each other and our paths. As we say together in our vision statement, we are a family of faith. And as we celebrate the connection this year, we will have an opportunity to hear stories from fellow family members about their faith journey. You won’t want to miss weekly stories from others in every worship service between now and November 5.

Consecration Sunday, which takes place on November 5 (coinciding with St. Andrew’s Sunday), gives us the opportunity to share our gifts to promote spiritual growth through giving while sustaining and growing our church’s ministry. During worship (all three services), you are invited to complete 2018 financial commitment cards as an act of worship.

It will be an exciting day as we celebrate our heritage and future. Our guest speaker that day will be Dr. James Skimins – our immediate past senior minister. And after each service on November 5 (at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.), you are warmly invited to join with other family members in a celebration to be held in the narthex. Delicious refreshments will be served. We encourage you to be part of this time of fellowship.

Meanwhile, please watch for and take a special token being given out after the service today to remind you of our connection to each other. Thank you for your support and for responding prayerfully to God’s guidance in your life. Tina Creguer, Doug Heasley, Jack Farrow, and Orlean Heidel Stewardship Committee

Per Capita News: Did you know that only 21% of our church members have paid the modest $26 Per Capita contribution to the Presbytery to support their operations? When members fail to pay this contribution, the Church must cover the loss by eliminating key expenditures for church operations, mission programs or other important items.
