How I lost 100kg JANE HARPER ‘With Rebecca’s blood pressure and measurements, she was a walking timebomb.’ — trainer MATT CRITCHLEY THE BIG SHED: Belmont’s Rebecca Mudd has turned her life – and her body – around. Photo: GLENN FERGUSON AFTER BEFORE THE new year brings a new life for Rebecca Mudd, who has lost 100kg over the past 12 months. The 24-year-old from Belmont is enjoying a new lease on life after shedding more than half her body weight. In January, Miss Mudd weighed in at 182.3kg. Now, the 178cm social worker tips the scales at a toned 82.1kg. ‘‘I’m happier, I’m more energetic, it’s a completely different feeling,’’ Miss Mudd said. ‘‘Before, I was always tired and sluggish and didn’t have a lot of mo- tivation.’’ After struggling with her weight all her life, Miss Mudd took the bull by the horns and signed up for sessions with per- sonal trainer Matt Critchley a Fitness Expert who overhauled her eating and exercise patterns. ‘‘With Rebecca’s blood pressure and measurements, she was a walking timebomb,’’ Mr Critchley said. ‘‘I couldn’t be prouder of her. We’ve come a long way together, but she’s done all the hard work. ‘‘Rebecca’s a real in- spiration. She’s achieved fantastic results and I’ve no doubt she will keep the weight off.’’ Miss Mudd swapped junk food for healthy eating habits, and now exercises with Mr Critchley three times a week at 5.30am before travelling to her job in Melbourne. She said close friends and even family mem- bers have failed to recognise her since the dramatic transfor- mation. ‘‘I had had enough and was just ready to make a change,’’ Miss Mudd said. ‘‘I wanted to lose 100kg, but thought it would take between three and five years. ‘‘But I started seeing the results really quickly and that motivated me more. ‘‘Now I’m more confi- dent, I enjoy meeting people and I love shop- ping.’’ Miss Mudd said she had never looked back since making the com- mitment to lose weight. ‘‘If you are ready, then take it and run with it, because it’s not as diffi- cult as you think,’’ she said. ‘‘There’s no secret, it’s just a question of stick- ing to it.’’ Honey, I want to see less of you AN Indiana couple who topped the scales at more than 320kg combined have undergone weight-loss surgery – on the same day. Lorie and Todd Richmond both had surgery last week at the University of Chicago Medical Center. They made the decision after years offailed diets and 10 months of preparation. Dr Vivek Prachand performed oper- ations on both the 138kg husband and his 182kg wife. The doctor says it’s the first time he has performed surgeries on a husband and wife in the same day.
