Most of the rele- vant people in BJP and RSS are clueless as to what has been exactly ‘discussed’ between Shah and Yogi but sources close to Yogi in- dicated that the Chief Minister had a ‘plain talk’ with the Union Home Minister, who had played a vital role in bringing the saffron party to power in Uttar Pradesh in 2017 and also had a key role in nomi- nating Yogi as the Chief Minister in place of Manoj Sinha at the elev- enth hour. Luckno: Uttar Pradesh is in favour of reducing taxes on Covid relief items such as ventila-tors, oxygen concentra-tors, PPE kits etc to im-prove their cheaper ac-cess to the masses and help the nation to be better prepared for any possible wave of Cov-id-19, according to state finance minister Suresh Khanna.
Khanna, who is part of the Group of Minis-
ters (GoM) set up by the GST Council, said that the state has conveyed its views and sugges-tions to the council and was confident that the same would be accepted soon.
“We have offered re-lief to people in the worst of times during the build up of the pan-demic last year by keep-ing our own VAT rates unchanged on key fuel items such as petrol and diesel,” the minis-ter pointed out.
He indicated that the current rate of VAT of Rs 26.80 per litre on pet-
rol and 17.48 per litre on diesel may not increase during the second wave
of the pandemic as well and resources needed for meeting growing ex-penditure would be met from other sources like promotion of indus-tries, infrastructure development and gen-eration of non-tax rev-enue across Uttar Pradesh.
“We want to main-tain complete fiscal discipline even in these difficult times. This would not mean that state would cut expenditure and re-
duce funding for wel-fare schemes. Re-sources would be mo-bilised through other measures that also promotes industriali-sation and generated growth,” the Finance Minister told select journalists.
Khanna also said that things on fiscal front for the state were much better compared to last year when lock-downs and Covid pan-demic impacted eco-nomic activities badly.

Lucknow: According to sources, Nadda as-sured Modi that he will suitably handle the UP Chief Minister, who is a hardcore BJP-RSS worker and will never create a situation in which the party ulti-mately suffers in the upcoming 2022 assem-bly polls. It is believed that under Mohan Bhagwat’s advice, the request for time from UP CM’s office to Home Minister’s office was made on June 9 morn-ing, after which the ap-pointments were expe-dited and Yogi was called by the top BJP leadership to amicably sort out the issues, spe-cially the upcoming cabinet reshuffle and other organizational changes. At this junc-ture someone has also suggested to Modi-Shah-Nadda to promote a young Brahmin lead-er Jitin Prasada as the deputy chief minister (via MLC route) in place of AK Sharma who, in spite of being a nomi-nee of the Prime Minis-ter, has unfortunately become a centre of con-troversy. Sharma’s de-tractors say ‘bhumi-hars’, the caste from which he (Sharma) hails constitute just a miniscule 1.5 per cent of the State’s popula-tion and are already well-represented in the Yogi cabinet by two ministers - Surya Pratap Shahi and Upen-dra Tiwari. But Prasa-da’s likely entry in Yogi cabinet is being strong-ly protested by Yogi himself. In this context, Yogi also reportedly re-
jected the theory of Brahmins being ne-glected and side lined during his 4.5 year long rule and said that it is only a propaganda against him by the Con-gress.
In one more major de-velopment, BJP and RSS top leadership is slowly getting comfortable with the idea of giving tickets to Muslims also to stop or pre-empt Sa-majwadi party’s move to
consolidate Muslim votes in 2022 elections.
Yogi’s meetings with PM Modi and party President Nadda this morning is also being considered as ‘impor-tant events’ which will
give a final shape to the party’s UP agenda but the announcement of final package will also require a prior consulta-tion with Amit Shah.
However, the curious
part of the entire story revolves around AK Sharma’s likely induc-tion as Dy CM and also some powerful position-ing of Jitin Prasada in Lucknow.

BIHAR AUDIT REVEALS A DEADLY TRUTH
ntil now Bihar, like many of its neigh-bouring states, was under-reporting Cov-id-19 deaths. In a dra-
matic turnaround on June 8 the state officials revised the num-ber of deaths from 5,424 to 9,375, with 3,951 more deaths which were not recorded. This came to be revealed after an audit of deaths by health experts at the district level. The audit itself was carried out on the direc-tions of the Patna High Court which took note of the bodies floating in the Ganga in Buxar.
Some of Bihar’s neighbours have suppressed not only the real numbers of positive cases but also of deaths. The claim that there have been fewer deaths in India compared to some other countries is some-thing which the world is not ready to buy. Some governments may pat their backs after hiding the real numbers from people at large but the families which have lost their loved ones to the virus know the truth even with-out an audit.
U
n the post Cov-id-19 world na-tions have become extra cautious about ensuring
that the viral disease does not flare up again. They have banned flights from countries where the positivity rate is still high to prevent possible carriers of the coronavirus. After all, the deadly virus has killed millions besides leav-ing people traumatized across the globe. Economies have been adversely affected. Even as nations are limping back to normal, there’s talk of a third wave in the UK and of cases rising again in the US. The only advantage these two countries, and those in the European Union have is that their vaccination drive is moving at a very fast pace.
That is why there’s a new travel vocabulary being ban-died about--- vaccine pass-port. Countries allowing en-try to travellers want them to mandatorily carry vaccina-tion certificates. Nine coun-tries including Denmark are ready with digital certifi-
cates and other countries in the European Union are working on the feasibility of digital passports for travel-lers to show that they have been fully vaccinated. Efforts are on to make a digital pass-port or app acceptable to all. India is also working on link-ing Co-WIN vaccine certifi-cates to passports of those going abroad for studies, jobs or for the Tokyo Olympics.
The problem arises with countries like India where there are not enough vaccines. The facility of digital certifi-cate extended will act as a fa-cilitator, but only for those who have got Covishield, which is the same as Astrazen-eca, shots. Covishield will also be acceptable globally. This puts those who get Covaxin or Sputnik-V at a disadvantage.

IF YOU NEED AUTHORITY, SHOW ACCOUNTABILITY FIRST
t’s a common process. The team completes a strategic meeting. There are several initiatives which everyone agrees are important to com-plete by the end of the quar-ter. Everyone at the table says they will contribute to get it all done, but when the end of the quarter arrives, very lit-tle of the list actually got ac-complished. It’s not that these were bad people or that they didn’t work hard. In fact, they were likely all re-sponsible members of the team with full authority to take required decisions. The problem was that no one was actually accountable for making sure the initiatives were complete. Many people can be responsible for help-ing out on a task or initiative. But accountability belongs to a person who will be judged on completion of the project.
Let’s take an example of Henry Ford who was the own-
er of the famous Ford motors. Once while addressing the company employees, he said, “Life is an ocean of experi-ence! Every experience teach-es us new things”. He said, “There are employees who do not work with heart. This is not good. The smallest work assigned to each employee is also important in the compa-ny. If you believe that the own-ership is yours in the real sense, it will take the company to the 7th sky. Every employee should work with great owner-ship and I don’t think that an accountable employee needs any monitoring.” He advised the employees to split their work into smaller sections, which also makes the work of each unit easy. This technique not only worked miracles on their productivity but also el-evated the company’s value in the eyes of the employees.
Truly accountable people are very hard to find. Ac-countability comes from within, it is not something you are given, you have to choose it to own it. When re-sponsibility is forced upon people, they are often resist-ant or even resentful. Highly accountable people willingly take on responsibility and
actively manage it so it gets done. They make sure once the initiative has their name on it, no one else needs to worry about its completion.
Moreover, highly account-able people don’t throw oth-ers under the bus for their own missteps or inaction. They don’t blame others for their mistakes. Rather, they own their mistakes, admit it and try to take corrective ac-
tions on time. They also don’t excuse themselves based upon outside influences. They do good analysis and solve problems as they arise.
Part of what makes them trustworthy is their efficien-cy and dependability to not waste a minute of other peo-ple’s time or their own. They understand that every as-signment has a time value and that punctuality serves a purpose. They do not wait to be checked or monitored by others but work proactively and diligently with the team to finish the job. When some-thing gets in the way, they as-sess it, resolve it and commu-nicate proactively to make sure everyone is on board with the adjusted result.
Accountable people own the task from within, they don’t expect praise from out-side. They get their satisfac-tion from delivering quality products on time with a team that feels great about the ac-complishment.
No Excuses, I am myself responsible for my assign-ments, my duties, my actions, that’s what Accountable peo-ple exemplify.

Born In 18th Century...At first unable to un-derstand what was to come, Dr Rai said that they could come at 12 noon. However, when the disciple reached the vaccination center with the Baba and his Aadhar card for regis-tration was checked, the staff was shocked to see his date of birth mentioned as August 8, 1896.
As soon as the news about his age spread, the health workers sit-ting in their respective chambers came to see
him. Post registration, Baba was vaccinated with Covishield vac-cine after which he blessed the health workers and said that he would be saved from Corona.
Sivanand Baba said that no one should be afraid of the vaccina-tion and there was no problem getting vacci-nated as he was feeling fine and more energet-ic than before.
Sivanand Baba does not like milk and fruits in food, but eats only boiled food, that too until only he is half
full. He was born on August 8, 1896 in Sri-hatt district of Bangla-desh.
His parents were very poor and made a living through beg-ging. After his parents died of hunger, the Baba took a vow to eat only half the food he requires for his body. He took holy vows at the ashram and then moved to Vrindavan in 1977. After living in Vrindavan for two years, he came to Kashi in 1979 and has been living there since thereafter.

Kumar said that the team collected sam-ples from river Ganga on June 1 in Buxar and on June 5 in Pat-na, Bhojpur and Sa-
ran, adding that the samples have been sent to Lucknow for testing the reports of which are awaited.

Lucknow: Jitin Prasa-da’s decision to quit Con-gress and join archrival BJP would not have been an easy on, as Jitin Pras-ada has been associated with Congress for close to 3 decades. The crack in the relationship between Congress and Jitin arose when during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, there were discussions going on to change his Lok Sabha Constituency.
The party’s state in-charge Priyanka Vadra had proposed to field him from Lucknow Lok Sabha seat instead of Dhaurahara and the central leadership was also not against the thought. This discussion of changing his constit-uency didn’t go down well with Jitin, who has been contesting from Dhaurahara for some time now and his opposi-tion to change was not heard by the party’s de-cision makers.
The party had wanted to field a strong candi-date in Lucknow to fight against Rajnath Singh of BJP, but Jitin was appre-hensive of this but buck-led under pressure and like a disgruntled soldier decided to contest from Lucknow. The news of Jitin agreeing to contest
from Lucknow caused uproar from his support-ers which ultimately forced the party to re-verse the decision and allowed Jitin to contest from Dhaurahara. This episode though only caused cracks in the re-lationship between him and Priyanka Vadra and even though Priyanka Gandhi did road shows for Jitin during the elec-tions, but it didn’t help much as Jitin lost the election.
The defeat meant that Jitin lost even more cred-ibility in the party but in due to his name once again started doing rounds for the position of the party’s State Pres-ident. It was believed that being a Brahmin, he would undoubtedly be-come the party’s state President but then it went to Ajay Kumar La-llu, considered close to Priyanka Gandhi. Jitin though on his part never considered himself to be
in the race for the covet-ed seat as he was not holding any important position in the party and had lost 2 consecutive Lok Sabha elections.
At the same time, naming of Ajay Lallu as state President when he was holding the post as leader of the Congress Legislature Party caused a lot of outrage at the party leadership.
Jitin after all these snubs began mobilizing the Brahmins and was
seen making statement in incidents involving Brahmins in the state. He also started having meeting with various representatives of the Brahmin community.
All these incidents caused commotion in the party and after Jyoti-raditya Scindia left the party discussions were rife that he would also follow suit and join BJP though he vehemently denied the speculations.
Jitin though had nev-er made any statement against the party in open but there was some hos-tility brewing and after he was made election in-charge of Bengal and Andaman just poured oil in the fire. His support-ers were angry at this decision as the Congress had nothing special to do in both the states and many believed that this decision was taken to keep Jitin away from the state.
All these played into the hands of BJP who have now gained a per-son who could gain a lot from his influence in the Brahmins community. The exit of Jitin has de-railed the Congress’s campaign of projecting BJP as an anti-Brah-min party. BJP had made it clear that it in-tends to strengthen its
position in areas which are considered weak for the party. The entry of former Union Minis-ter Jitin Prasada’s en-try in BJP will now strengthen its hold on
Brahmins while it re-duces the hold of Con-gress in the regions Bahraich to Lakhim-pur Kheri, Shahjahan-pur and Pilibhit to Ba-reilly. Congress had in
the 2009 Lok Sabha elections performed exceptionally well but the recent devel-opments seem to put question mark in the region.
UP IN SEARCH FOR ITS ‘METRO MAN’
Having helmed the prestigious Lucknow Metro Rail Project for
close to seven years, incumbent Managing Director of UP Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) Kumar Keshav is due to complete his innings in mid-August this year. He was given a two-year extension in service in 2019.Consequently, a hunt has begun to choose his successor by a three-member panel headed by chief secretary, Chairman Railway Board and the original Metro Man E Sreedharan. Last heard, more than a dozen top technocrats have thrown their hat in the ring for the
plum job. Except a cap on age which should not be less than 45 years and maximum 58, there is no for others including IAS officers to apply. In fact, before he decided to take a bow from the civil services, the LMRCs first driver in the hot seat was none than IAS officer Rajiv Aggarwal. The change at the helm comes at a time when UP government wants its Agra and Kanpur Metro Rail to start operations before assembly elections 2022. July 15 is the deadline for applying and the state
government intends to pick the best man suited to deliver the two projects by July-end. —M Tariq Khan
DEMANDING AADHAAR FROM GOD’
A few days ago in Banda district of UP, wheat grown on 40 bighas of
land of Ramjanki temple could not be sold as the officials sought such impossible things from caretaker of
the temple which had become a topic of discussion not only in the village but also in the entire district. Actually the incident was that when the people of the temple committee talked to the SDM for selling the wheat grown on the temple land, the SDM asked the people of the temple committee to bring the Aadhar card of God as the land was registered in the name of the temple. After the matter escalated, the officers took a U turn on the matter and said that God’s Aadhar card had not been
sought, but according to the rules, it will be mandatory to bring the Aadhar card of the one who on whose name the land was registered. There is a temple of Ramjanki in Khurhand village of Atarra Tehsil area whose priest Mahant Ramkumar Das told that 40 bighas of land was on the name of Ramjanki temple. The sale of produce of the land was used for maintenance of the temple and Puja proceedings. The Mahant said that in the month of April, online registration was done for the sale of produce at the Khurhand Purchase Center in the name of Ramjanaki by the patron of the temple Ramkumar Das after which the lekhpal was directed for verification. Due to corona infection and panchayat elections, the information about verification
of registration could not be done in the month of April. In May, the Lekhpal told that verification had been done on his behalf but on getting information about cancellation of online process by SDM Atarra, temple committee members approached the official on phone who said that according to rules of the government, Aadhar Card was mandatory of the person, in whose name the land was registered from which the agricultural produce was obtained. The official also apprised that sale of crops could not be done with the Aadhar card of the temple caretaker. However, the request of temple committee members to the official that it was impossible to bring the Aadhar card of God failed to bear fruit. —First India Bureau

New Delhi: Jitin Prasada’s
exit from the Congress on
Wednesday is a setback for
the Grand Old Party in terms
of optics and perception.
While he is not a huge elec-
toral asset for the Congress
in Uttar Pradesh, where it
has been down and out for
years, his joining the BJP
will reinforce the belief that
even young leaders are now
increasingly feeling suffo-
cated since they see no future
for themselves in the party.
Prasada is not a pan-Uttar
Pradesh leader. For that mat-
ter, neither does he hold sig-
nificant influence in western
Uttar Pradesh from where he
hails. The Congress is al-
ready at its lowest ebb in the
key heartland state. Prasada
himself had lost the last two
Lok Sabha elections and the
2017 Assembly elections. So,
the setback is minimal in
electoral terms. However, his
exit signals that there is huge
disenchantment among lead-
ers over the party’s reluc-
tance to even make an at-
tempt at reinvention — po-
litically and organisationally.
A year ago, another young
leader, Jyotiraditya Scindia
had left the Congress and
joined the BJP.
His exit will roil the Con-
gress internal politics in the

spring into action. As for the
BJP, his entry is a signal to

Will Jitin get Prasada from BJP: Kapil Sibal
First India Bureau
New Delhi: A day af-ter Jitin Prasada quit the Congress, senior party leader Kapil Sibal asked if he would get “prasada” from the BJP or is he merely a “catch” for the Uttar Pradesh elec-tions. Another party colleague Shashi Tha-roor also asked if poli-tics can be a career devoid of principles. “Jitin Prasada joins BJP. The question is will he get ‘prasada’ from BJP or is he just a ‘catch’ for UP elec-tions,” Sibal asked on Twitter. “In such deals if ‘ideology’ doesn’t matter changeover is easy,” the former un-ion minister also said. In a tweet, Tharoor
asked, “Can politics be a career devoid of principle? Politics has to be about ideas, or it’s nothing. Can a per-son of conviction change political par-ties the way a cricket-er changes IPL teams.”
In an article on the larger issues in Prasa-da’s defection to the BJP, Tharoor said his decision a year after his “older brother” Jy-otiraditya Scindia did the same thing, is
“deeply dismaying”.“I say this without
any personal bitter-ness,” he said. “Both Scindia and Prasada were amongst the most eloquent voices against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the dangers its communal bigotry posed to the India they cherished. Today, they are both happily sport-ing the colours of the party they once re-viled more than any other.
“The obvious ques-tion this provokes is: what do they really stand for? What be-liefs and values ani-mate their politics? Or are they in politics only for self-advance-ment and power? Can politics be a career .

New Delhi/Ghazi-abad: The farmers’ protest continues even after six months, de-manding the with-drawal of the three Central laws. Mean-while, Rakesh Tikait, national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), met West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on Wednesday on which questions were bound to arise about the meet-ing. Responding to the questions pertaining to his meeting with West Bengal CM Mamta Ba-nerjee, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait ex-pressed annoyance and said that he had met the CM and not the party chief. He said in an angry man-
ner that did he meet the President of Af-ghanistan, for which he had to take the per-mission of the Gov-ernment of India?
On the questions raised about meeting CM Mamta Banerjee,
Tikait asked whether a visa was required to meet the CM? He said that he would meet the Chief Ministers of all the states regarding the policies. There is a BJP government in Ut-tarakhand and a Con-
gress government in Punjab, we will meet them too.
It is worth noting that on Wednesday, Rakesh Tikait, leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, met West Ben-gal Chief Minister
Mamata Banerjee. During this, on behalf of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, he demanded all the state govern-ments to support his movement.
After the meeting, Rakesh Tikait said that I congratulate the peo-ple of Bengal for such a big victory. I thank CM Mamta Banerjee here. We need to strengthen the opposition besides a better coordination was needed for the on-going farmer move-ment in Delhi. The BKU leader further said that Mamta Baner-jee had assured us of support as we had come to request Mamta didi that as she had defeated the big enemy, now she should prepare such a model which everyone could follow.

Mission 2022: BJP plans to make C-nario a poll plankFirst India Bureau
Lucknow: The corona pandemic has now been going on for over a year and in just about nine months from now, the Assembly elections are to be held in UP.
The BJP is trying to use the corona epidemic to its best advantage. The party has decided to launch five major pro-
grammes with the help of service organisation and the responsibility for these have been giv-en to the ministers.
The first programme is to adopt a primary health centre each and the responsibility for this has been given to General Secretary Pri-yanka Rawat along with State Minister Tryam-bak Tripathi. In this
programme, all Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha MPs will adopt a prima-ry health centre in their constituency to im-prove its quality.
The second pro-gramme is about the Post Covid Centre, through which BJP workers will be able to serve the people. The re-sponsibility for this has been given to General
Secretary Anoop Gupta and Minister Ramchan-dra Kanojia. Under this programme, medical as-sistance to the needy will be provided.
The third big pro-gramme is to raise awareness about vacci-nation and the responsi-bility for this has been given to Govind Naray-an Shukla and Minister Sanjay Rai. Through
this, the workers of BJP’s IT cell and Yuva Morcha will go from vil-lage to village spreading awareness.
The fourth pro-gramme is UP Scheme, which will be taken care of by Amarpal Maurya and Minister Subhash Yaduvansh. Under this, the benefits of govern-ment schemes will be spread among the public.
The fifth programme is about Panchayat elections and the agen-da for this will be pre-pared by General Secre-tary JPS Rathore and Minister Shankar Lo-dhi. Under this the pri-ority of the workers will be to ensure the benefits of different schemes run by the gov-ernment reach people in their area.

Kanpur: After the Sachendi incident, the Police Commissioner-ate is making efforts to prevent accidents on highway. Cameras are being installed on highway and online challans will be issued to vehicles coming from wrong sides. Cheking of buses would be done with the help of RTO, traffic and outer police.
Till now there is no such system on the highway across the country, which is being started in Kanpur. In the meeting, the Com-missioner of Police, NHI Project Director Pankaj Singh said that many people parked their vehicles wrongly on highway. On this, the Commissioner of Police said that the traffic police will issue non-contract challan in any dispute without informing the police.
In fact, many times accidents happen due to the trucks and buses
parked on the side of the highway. Not only this, if there is an on-line challan, any per-son will be able to get the solution done by sending digital photos directly to the Addi-tional Traffic SP on his official number 9454401077.
In the meeting with the Commissioner of Police, RTO, Traffic, Sale Tax and trans-porter it was decided that work should be taken only from those having the permit or else action would be initiated against the erring.

Lucknow: In a shock-ing statement, a mem-ber of the UP State Women’s Commission has said that girls should not be given mo-bile phones as it encour-ages rape. “Girls talk on phones and later run away with boys,” Meena Kumari said during a Mahila Jansunwai in Aligarh and appealed to parents to keep the phones away from their daughters.
Meena Kumari also added that parents, es-pecially mothers, should monitor their daughters as crime against women was a result of “their care-lessness”.

Lucknow: After Jitin Prasada’s joining BJP, party’s Chanakya Amit Shah is now eyeing the angry leaders of Sama-jwadi Party and Bahu-jan Samaj Party. Dis-cussion are on that the BJP wants to break the leaders considered as caste pillar in every party before the assem-bly elections.
This has created pan-ic among SP, BSP and Congress. Mayawati is getting lonely anyway with only seven MLAs left while Congress has been confined to Rae Bareli. SP President Akhilesh Yadav is working towards form-ing a grand alliance of small parties to save his fort in these situa-tions and prevent the division of votes in
elections. Akhilesh has held talks with Rash-triya Lok Dal chief Jay-ant Chaudhary and Azad Samaj Party’s Chandrashekhar Ra-vana in several phases.
Akhilesh’s bitter-ness towards the angry uncle Shivpal Singh Ya-dav has also reduced. Anupriya Patel of the Apna Dal in eastern UP
and Omprakash Rajb-har of the Bharatiya
Suheldev Rajbhar Par-ty have also been invit-ed by the SP. In a way, the foundation of a grand alliance has been laid.
Akhilesh knows that to defeat the BJP riding on the chariot of Hin-dutva nationalism, it is very important to stop the division of votes. This is possible only
when all the regional parties are united so to form such a strong alli-ance which could as-sure the public that this alliance could de-feat the BJP.
SP chief has taken the initiative to form a grand alliance from western UP. There is resentment among the people towards the BJP because of the farmers’ movement. In such a situation, once again the inclination of the public towards RLD has increased.
Taking advantage of this, Akhilesh extend-ed his hand of friend-ship towards RLD pres-ident Jayant Chaud-hary and announced support to RLD candi-dates in some districts in the election of Dis-trict Panchayat presi-dent.

he Covid-19 pan-demic has put an end to plans for overseas travels in 2020 and now again in 2021. Once-
bustling tourist destina-tions are now deserted, with hotels vacant and no tourists in sight. The numbers are self-evident. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that international traffic had “almost vanished,” with carriers transporting just around 10% of stand-ard levels. According to IATA, Covid-19 caused interruptions have placed more than 41 mil-lion jobs in the travel and tourism sector at risk.
Now the major chal-lenge is how to revive the worst-hit tourism and travel industry across the globe and especially for countries whose economy majorly de-pends on this sector like Italy, Dubai, India, the Philippines, Greece, and many more after the pan-demic is over.
So, when the wheels and propellers start going again and people will start travelling again and it’s per-fectly possi-ble that the industry w i l l g row i n
response to the lock-down restriction but it’s worth considering where we will people like to go and why because safety will still be the top priority.
After a year marred by the pandemic, and with the industry’s prospects dimming, tourism busi-ness owners should con-sider new kinds of con-tact for visitors that may also benefit the people and economies that rely on tourism. The pan-demic of COVID-19 has accelerated the testing and deployment of for-ward-thinking technolo-gy. Not only has technol-ogy allowed people all over the world to com-municate with their loved ones, but it has also made it possible for businesses like health-care, information tech-nology, education, and many others to operate remotely.
The pandemic has had a tremendous impact on visitor’s sentiments. Per-sonal hygiene and sani-tation are now given top attention. Tourists are increasingly avoiding busy areas in favour of visiting more remote locations. The way people travel has a l s o changed. Some of t h e n e w
trends in the industry include the importance of local cuisine, proxim-ity to nearby destina-tions, and quick travel.
VIRTUAL TOURISM IN ‘NEW’ NORMALIn the absence of tour-ists, tourism boards, ho-tels, and locations have resorted to virtual real-ity (VR), a relatively new technology, to keep potential visitors en-gaged and prepare for the long road ahead. What began as a tempo-rary stopgap measure for many may now be a long-term solution. Travel will not restore to pre-pandemic levels un-til 2024, according to IATA. The longer this virus lasts, the more likely it is that Virtual reality will become a vi-able form of alternative
travel as customers grow more accustomed to it. In the present cir-cumstances, several na-tions have increased their virtual reality marketing efforts to pre-pare for the slow revival of their tourism sectors.
Germany is one of the most notable, having re-leased a variety of im-mersive initiatives to pro-mote the country’s tour-ism potential. In the Mal-dives, virtual reality has been utilized to highlight a variety of island activi-ties, including morning yoga on the beach, snor-kelling, and cookery in-struction. With technolo-gy improving people’s lives all around the
world, virtual tourism has the potential to
revive the tourist sector and its peo-
ple, as well as contribute to
the develop-ment of a
m o r e s u s -
tain-
able economic model. But it may take its course of time as some believe digi-tal apps cannot replace the experience of real-world travel.
VACCINATION TOURISM With the second wave hitting even harder, in India, the concept of vac-cination tourism is gain-ing popularity, as a Dubai-based travel op-erator has begun selling a 24-day package vaca-tion from Delhi to Mos-cow.
The travellers will be brought to Russia and given two Sputnik V vac-cination injections, as well as certificates, as part of the package which costs Rs 1.29 lakh would cover the cost of immunization also.
It is expected that many more offers like this may come in near future to boost the hard-est hit tourism sector.
Tourism is at a cross-roads, and the policies put in place now will af-fect tourism in the future. The COVID-19 crisis is a watershed moment in the travel and tourism indus-
try. Now the onus will be on the aviation and
tourism industry to create safer infra-
structure and policies that
