We encourage the community to do the same as well. As a part of our learning, each student in the Senior Room designed a brochure to inform and encourage the community about what we have learned and how our actions affect our earth. The latest project for the Men’s Shed, has been to refurbish the seat outside the Memorial Hall—was looking shabby amongst the newly landscaped area. Looks great - good job.

My Ride for Harriet and
Mitochondrial Disease Pyramid Hill footballers who knew Darwin
Waratahs player, Andrew Coats, are following his marathon 4,500 km bike ride from Hervey Bay, through Longreach, Cloncurry, Kathe-
rine, Kununurra and on to Broome. Andrew & Michelle’s 14 week old daughter, Harriet, died in Andrew’s arms of the genetic mitochondrial disease. With mitochondrial, the body cells are unable to produce enough energy to support the organs, which leads to organ failure. Andrew is hoping to raise
awareness of the disease and raise $20,000 for research.
He began his ride on 15th August and hopes to complete it by 15th September. To this date,
he has raised $25,100 . Shane and Paul Carroll rode the last 15 km

Tenth Annual Terrick Terrick National Park Activities Weekend 2 pm Friday, 2nd October to 1 pm Sunday, 4th October
A CLOSE-UP look at a little-known, but highly significant, nature reserve is on offer with the 10th annual activities weekend coming up at Terrick Terrick National Park. This 5882ha property, 4km north of Mitiamo and 60km from Bendigo, contains the largest remnant of endangered northern plains grasslands in Victoria. The park supports more than 200 species of native flora, including many rare and threatened species, and is home to over 100 species of birds, including the Plains-wanderer, grey-crowned babbler and bush stone-curlew. It is also home to such native mammals and reptiles as the black wallaby, fat-tailed dunnart, striped legless lizard, hooded scaly
foot and tree goanna.
Secretary of the Friends of Terrick Terrick National Park Keith Stockwell said “there are a lot of people in Bendigo and Echuca, who don’t even realize there’s a national park on the Patho Plains”.
We provide a minibus for park tours, some with naturalists as guides, and there’ll be an early morning bird session on the Saturday. There’ll be plant walks and evening presenta-tions by guest speakers on the pre-European occupation of the area, a bush stone-curlew project at Lockwood and the identification of birds from their flight patterns. “We also invite people to take part in working bees, this year aiming to pull down an old barbed-wire fence, sand down and oil tables in the picnic ground and inject poison into wheel cactus plants. Mr Stockwell said a TV set would be operating in the machinery shed for those visitors who would like to watch the AFL Grand Final. Day visitors are welcome, but those wishing to stay overnight will need to bring their own food and camping gear,” Mr Stockwell said. “We will provide afternoon tea on the Saturday, tea and coffee, portable toilets and tank water.”

50th Birthday
Congratulations to Pyramid Hill & District Historical Society for preserving history since 1965. In this time the Museum has been staffed by Volunteers to help people with their Family History, to while away a few hours while we go back down memory lane or teach the children how things were done in the olden days. The Museum is very thankful for the numerous volunteers we have had over the past 50 years for putting in all the hard work to make the Museum what it is today. Without you we would not be able to keep the Museum open for the community. The team at the Museum is very grateful and appreciates every little bit you have done in making it what it is today. We have received many awards from the Loddon Shire for tourism, and of this we are proud.
So we are having a party on
October 18 in the Supper Room
of the Memorial Hall, Kelly St
Pyramid Hill at 2pm. A book with the story of the Historical
Society will be launched. Also some new DVDs will be launched. So come along

Michael Veitch's life-long obsession with the aircraft of the Second World War led him to conclude that every single person who flew has at least one extraordinary story to tell. With most of these veterans in their eighties, he knew that it was a matter of urgency to find them now, before their personal stories disappear forever. So, over the course of a year, Veitch interviewed over fifty former aircrew across Australia, many of whom had never spoken about their time in the war, even to their families. The result is Flak – a vivid performance of unforgettable stories from RAAF veterans about their experiences of combat in World War II. It is an account of the strange and sometimes obsessive journey of the author himself, as he explores a passion held since childhood.

From bomber pilots to fighter aces, rear gunners to bomb aimers, and stories of death and fear to tales of humour and comradeship, Michael has helped unearth the extraordinary stories of ordinary men living and fighting in extraordinary times.
For anyone who is interested in history, has a family member who served, or just loves a good old-fashioned story Flak will definitely hit the right note. Michael Veitch is an actor, author and broadcast-er, best known for his roles on the sketch comedy television shows The D-Generation, Fast Forward and Full Frontal, as well as for his books on Second World War aviation and the Bass Strait Islands. "There are few storytellers in Australia like Michael Veitch. He puts humanity and wry observation into the terrible arithmetic of air warfare. His personal mission to honour the memory and the memories of the last of a generation who bear a remarkable witness is a special kind of theatrical experience." Dr Mark Williams, Adjunct Professor, School of Art, RMIT University.
