INGERMANCorinne Ingerman passed away on January 5,2019. She was born in Philadelphia in 1930,in the throes of the Great Depression, to Al-bert and Dora Schwait. She attended OlneyHigh School in Philadelphia, Pa., and met herfuture husband, Albert Ingerman, shortlyafter her graduation in 1948. They married inMay, l949, when Corinne was 19. Corinneand Albie enjoyed 61 happy years together. They had two children, Michele and Mark.Corinne was a homemaker, devoted to herhusband and children. She always regrettedthat her family could not afford to send her tocollege, so she encouraged her children toseek higher education. Her daughter becamea lawyer and her son, a doctor. What Jewishmother could ask for more? Corinne was alifelong swimmer and played tennis competit-ively at Idle Hour Tennis Club in Drexel Hill,Pennsylvania. She also was a devoted bridgeplayer her entire life, constantly honing herskills with bridge lessons and Charles Gorenat her side. After moving to Florida in the mid1970’s, Corinne continued playing tennis andbridge, finding new partners and expandingher social circle. But it was in Florida, spe-cifically, Palm Beach County, where her ca-reer as an artist blossomed. Art was her truepassion. She played an active role in the Societyuntil she returned to Philadelphia in 2016.She spearheaded many projects, including alarge-scale undertaking in which local artistsdecorated the children’s wing of a local hos-pital. After her children were grown, Corinneand her husband actively traveled throughoutthe United States and abroad. Despite heractive schedule, Corinne always made timefor annual trips to the Pacific Northwest andto Philadelphia to see her children and grand-children. Corinne was known as “Nan” to sixgrandchildren and despite the geographicaldistance between them, always maintained avery close relationship with all six grandchil-dren. In recent years, Corinne welcomed sev-en great- grandchildren into the family.Corinne took her Jewish faith seriously. SCHWARTZAlan Schwartz, a prominent Philadelphia trialattorney and a founding partner of the lawfirm, Anapol, Schwartz, Weiss & Schwartz(now known as Anapol Weiss), passed awayon November 13, 2018 at the age of 80 aftera long battle with multiple myeloma. Alan leda life of accomplishment and contributionmarked by an unrelenting commitment to lawand equal access to justice for victims ofmedical malpractice and personal injuries.Alan was born in West Philadelphia on May5, 1938 to Goodman and Nettie (Ingerman)Schwartz. He was the middle son, sand-wiched between older brother Ronald andyounger brother Stephen. Despite a difficultchildhood and adolescence burdened by fin-ancial hardship, Alan remained committed toachieving his long-term goals. After graduat-ing from Overbrook High School, Alan servedin the United States Air Force and thePennsylvania Air National Guard Reservewhile concurrently earning his undergradu-ate and law degrees from Temple University(B.S.,1960; LL.B., 1963). Alan’s passion forthe law was an integral part of his identity. Hewas widely respected throughout the Phil-adelphia-area legal community as a tena-cious, intimidating competitor with a wrysense of humor. In the courtroom, he dis-played thorough preparation, remarkable at-tention to detail, and an exceptional ability toconvey complex, technical information to jur-ies and judges in a persuasive, easily under-standable manner. Over his long and distin-guished legal career, Alan represented manyfamilies who suffered morbid and mortal in-juries due to personal and medical negli-gence. Alan was a dynamic speaker and con-summate storyteller who zealously and pas-sionately advocated for his clients, often win-ning multi-million- dollar jury verdicts ontheir behalf. Alan enthusiastically engaged incutting edge, precedent-setting litigation. Hesuccessfully argued before the PennsylvaniaSupreme Court and changed the state law toallow parents to recover for the death of theirviable fetus. Alan was one of the first attor-neys certified by the National Board of TrialAdvocacy and served in numerous leader-ship roles for multiple legal organizations, in-cluding the Association of Trial Lawyers ofAmerica. In addition to serving as AdjunctProfessor for the Masters in Trial AdvocacyDegree Program at Temple University Schoolof Law, Alan lectured at numerous academicand professional institutions, includingThomas Jefferson Medical College, WidenerUniversity School of Law, the PennsylvaniaBar Institute, the Pennsylvania Trial LawyersAssociation and the Association of Trial Law-yers of America. Alan was a passionate trialattorney, but he prioritized his family aboveall else. After marrying at a young age, he be-came the father of three children and eventu-ally, five grandchildren. In his private life out-side of the courtroom, Alan revealed his truenature: a quirky, loving, “softy.” His childrenrecall his fascination with useless gadgetshe’d impulsively purchase from catalogues, his penchant for starting embarrassing con-versations at the dinner table, and his willing-ness to cede the upper hand when negotiat-ing their punishments for adolescent infrac-tions. While Alan enjoyed many interests andactivities—such as travel, skiing, golf, sportscars, and desserts—spending time with hisfamily was his greatest joy. Alan took hisfamily on many vacations and chose vaca-tion homes with his family’s interest in mind, incentivising their joyful participation. “Yourchildren are going to think you are a rockstarfrom when they are born until they turn about1 4 o r 1 5 y e a r s o l d . T h e n o t h e rdistractions––their friends, love interests, school, activities, careers, children—take pri-ority. While they may still love you, the timethey spend with you becomes less and less. But no matter what it costs, no matter howmuch work you might have, it’s important tospend time with your family and creatememories.” Alan’s goal was to creatememories, with the understanding that “longafter you’re gone, those memories endureforever.” Throughout his eventful life, Alannever lost his perspective or took himself tooseriously. He was quick-witted and found hu-mor in everything, even the dark moments. He lived life to the fullest and was a pillar ofwisdom, support, and advice for his entireextended family. His indomitable spirit neverwavered as he fought multiple myeloma gal-lantly over the past several years with thelove and support of his family and friends.Alan is survived by his wife, Elaine Schwartz;his three children, Carrie (Steven) Leskowitz,Lisa Schwartz, and Todd (Susan) Schwartz;grandchildren Jason (Kira) and Dylan Bell, and Zachary, Gabriel le and EmersonSchwartz ; brothers Ronald (Sandra)Schwartz and Stephen (Renée) Schwartz; andnumerous nieces and nephews.
