Homework is an extension of our class, it is important to practice the concepts that are introduced in class each day. I believe homework is key in math because it helps students retain the concepts being taught. The more you practice, the more it will make sense.

★ Homework is checked within the first 10 minutes of class. It graded for completion, not accuracy. It can’t be handed in late, unless you are absent.

★ Students MUST check their work in pen, they should be writing in what is missing when compared to the answer key that is provided. An example of my expectations have been reviewed in class.

Computation homeworkComp hw is a spiral review, starting with 5th grade concepts, adding 6th grade concepts as we learn them. It’s assigned on the first day of the week and must be completed by the following Monday. ★ Comp hw is a google form and must be completed on a computer at

home. If a computer is not available to a student, please let me know asap via email/note.

★ Students MUST show their work on a given (hardcopy) “answer sheet.” No work handed in means a student will not earn full credit for the assignment.

★ A quiz is given on these concepts about once a month. It will be a google form quiz - on a chromebook at school - that is graded through the computer. I will look through them to make sure no computer mistakes are made.

EXTRA CREDIT!!!

For ALL tests, students will be given a STUDY SKILLS template of concepts taught in the current unit. Students are to choose 2-3 problems for each concept and redo the problems on template (not copy) AND have a parent sign it. If completed correctly, students can earn an extra 3% points.

This is the ONLY extra credit opportunity and is not required. It is optional but highly recommended.

Math Assistance Center -★ Drop in program to help students with

hw and studying, or just to get more practice on a specific skill.★ I strongly encourage students when they are out for several days,

to sign up for MAC to help catch them up. New concepts can be explained/taught.

★ All you need is a parent signed permission slip to attend Tuesday and/or Thursday.

★ Student is bussed home on the 4:15 bus.★ Permission slip must be handed in at least one day in advanced, but

no more than a week ahead.

Assessments & Time Management

Students often find the adjustment to 6th grade to be overwhelming. I understand students are not used to taking an assessment within one period length of time, and/or how middle school tests are formatted. However, in middle school, students are only allowed the allotted time of one class period (unless otherwise determined by teacher). When the period ends and the bell rings, the test is over. A new set of students enter the classroom, and the current students must go to their next class.
