Designation: A 240/A 240M – 03a Standard Specification for Chromium and Chromium-Nickel Stainless Steel Plate, Sheet, and Strip for Pressure Vessels and for General Applications 1 This standard is issued under the fixed designatio n A 240/A240M; the numb er immediately follo wing the designatio n indicates the year of original adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. A superscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. Scope * 1.1 This spec ificat ion 2 covers chromium, chromium-nickel, and chro mium-man ganes e-ni ckel stainless steel plat e, sheet, and strip for pressure vessels and for general applications. 1.2 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the specification. 1.3 This specifi cati on is expr essed in both inch- pound and SI units . Howeve r, unless the order speci fies the applicab le “M” specification designation (SI units), the material shall be furnished in inch-pound units. 2.
