The Baptism of Poland and The Congress of Gniezno

In 966 prince Mieszko I has

received the baptism. It was the beginning of

Christianization of Poland.

The Congress of Gniezno was in 1000. It was a meeting between polish duke Bolesław I Chrobry and Emperor Otto III.

BATTLE OF GRUNWALD Battle of Grunwald was on 15 July 1410,

during the Polish-Lithuanian-Teutonic War.

Battle of Grunwald is one of the biggest battles of Middle Ages.

Poland and Lithuania have won this battle.

PARTITIONS OF POLAND The First Partition of Poland was decided

on August 5, 1772 (Russia, Prussia, Austria)

The Second Partition of Poland was decided on January 23, 1793 (Russia, Prussia)

The Third Partition of Poland took place on October 24, 1795 (Russia, Prussia, Austria)

THE SILESIAN UPRISINGSThe Silesian Uprisings were three uprisings in 1919, 1920 and 1921. They were on Upper Silesia. They were in order to join to Poland.

WORLD WAR II (1939-1945) World War II has begun by September

Campaign. September Campaign was an invasion of Poland by Germany, the Soviet Union and Slovakia.

In World War II was 50 million to over 70 million fatalities.

In Second World War 16% of polish population has died.

THE HISTORY OF POLAND FROM 1944 TO 1989 The history of Poland from 1944 to 1989

was a period of Soviet Communist dominance.

Martial law was introduced to Poland on December, 13, 1981 by generals Czesław Kiszczak and Wojciech Jaruzelski.

There were ration stamps to food and other commodities.

There was Polish Round Table Agreement in 1989.

POLAND JOINED TO THE EU In 2004 ten countries: Poland, Cyprus,

the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Slovakia and Slovenia joined the European Union.
