DESCRIPTION OF METHOD USED The drilling was contracted by Bradley Bros, of Timmins using o Longyear Mk. 38 diamond drill mounted on a Flextac Nodwe11 160 muskeg tractor. A double walled drill string Is.used with water being supplied to the approx. 3 inch trl-cone bit using the outer anulus of the rods. Cuttings are returned with the water up the.center of the rods. In some cases, In sand or grav'el for example, compressed air Is injected into the water supply to . aid in lifting the cuttings. 4 1 9 The return water with the cuttings passes, through a conical cyclone to reduce velocity and to allow any compressed air to excape. The outflow from the cyclone falls through a i inch mesh sieve Into a plastic pall. The oversize from the sieve is rejected by periodically changing the screen and the minus i inch fraction settles Into the pail with the exception of clay particles in suspension. Overflow from the sample pail returns to the main tank and is re-used by the drill. The drill tank Is replenished, as required, by hauling water with a 1000 gallon tank mounted on a Flextac Nodwell 60 muskeg tractor. Samples are taken over 10 ft. lengths in the hole or xvhenever o change In lithology Is encountered and the material is logged by examining the return as it passes through the screen.
