During this workshop you will learn how to choose the correct fabric to interline for a couture finish, when and where to use interfacing as well as how to make continuous bias binding from a small square of fabric then finish seams and hems with a Hong Kong binding. BEADED DORSET BUTTONS Tania Ashton Jones Join Tania of TJFrog to discover the techniques and history of the heritage craft of Dorset Buttons. During this workshop you will explore three different ways of adding beads to Dorset Buttons. Beads are a great way to add extra colour, texture and a bit of sparkle to your buttons! You will learn how to determine pocket placement, unpick seams and how to fit the pocket to the garment. Materials for the pocket pattern and sample will be provided. CREATE AN HEIRLOOM RAG RUG Debra Wade Start to make a wonderful keepsake rug, re-using old t-shirts. Relaxing and meditative, this heritage craft costs virtually nothing but time and thread. You’ll cut t-shirt yarn for simple plaits and try turning and tapered braids. You will lace and hand stitch them using strong thread, to begin a rug or other accessory. We will consider how to blend colour & simple shapes to build more complex motifs like hearts and owls. You will take the project home to continue. CREATIVE COILED POTS BY MACHINE Molly Brown These lovely pots are quite addictive to make and mesmerising to watch them grow on your machine. In this workshop you will make your own pot. CREATIVE RECYCLED EMBELLISHMENTS FOR TEXTILE ART Jessica Grady Learn to make your own sequins, beads and 3D embellishments using waste and recycled materials including; plastic packaging, paper, fabric scraps and painted metal parts. Techniques will include punched shapes, origami sequins and vertical beads! After creating your embellishments Jessica will teach you a selection of ways on how to attach them to fabric using simple embroidery stitches. You will leave the class with a fabric sampler of techniques and ideas on contemporary embellishments – and a head full of ideas of how to reuse your waste! This class is suitable for absolute beginners, and also those who are wanting to experiment with new materials in their textile art.SUNDAY

CROCHET A RING-SHAPED BEAD AND A BRACELET Luise Roberts Learn a simple crochet cord technique that can be used to create beaded trim, bag handles, bracelets and necklaces. The workshop will start with threading beads onto the cotton yarn using wire, but this should only take about 10 minutes and can be started as soon as you arrive at the workshop and receive your kit. Using beaded slip stitch and a beaded crochet chain, the ring bead will be made first. The ring bead and bracelet patterns are the same but for the ring bead ends are joined after a few centimetres have been worked. Once the bead has been completed you will learn how to make a second stronger beaded cord. Dexterity and concentration are required. Some people may need to complete the project at home, but full instructions are provided. Please note that the kit contains: a crochet hook, yarn and beads, a clasp, and a needle. Children must be accompanied by an adult who can crochet to an intermediate level.FRIDAY & SUNDAY

FLOWER HAND STITCHED PATCHWORK Hilary Jane Cheshire Hilary Jane has designed this workshop to introduce traditional methods used in the craft of hand-stitched patchwork. Firstly, you will create a background using squares of fabric and be shown useful techniques for assembly. This is followed by stitching the flower design using English Paper Piecing (EPP), Suffolk Puffs and Appliqué for stems and leaves. Hilary will demonstrate finishing the patchwork using wadding and backing fabric and show examples of continuing the design to make a small hand-stitched quilt. HEARTS OF GOLD: INTRODUCTION TO GOLDWORK Royal School of Needlework Goldwork Embroidery, also known as ‘Metal Thread Embroidery’, consists of attaching different sparkling threads to a background fabric with a finer thread. Traditionally pure golds and silks were used; today metals can be varied to include coloured nickel, copper and silver, and silk is often replaced by cotton or polyester. To create this sparkling keepsake, you will use sewing machine thread and three types of synthetic gold to work a variety of basic Goldwork techniques including Couching, Chipping, Cutwork, Plunging and tying back thread ends. INTRO TO DESIGNING YOUR OWN DRESSMAKING PATTERNS Judith Johnson Learn how to take a basic dress block (bodice and skirt sloper) and move darts to create designs so you don’t need to buy commercial patterns. We discuss what is needed to get a good fitting block and how it can be transformed. You will get practical experience, using a demo pattern, of moving the darts into new locations, how to create yokes, gathers and even princess seams. INTRO TO INDIAN HAND EMBROIDERY Julia Phillips Stitch a small sampler using a variety of Indian hand embroidery stitches. INTRO TO SASHIKO SEWING Lorraine Reed Wenman Start to create a piece of work using the traditional hand stitching of Sashiko sewing. Sashiko is an old Japanese tradition. This session is aimed at beginners and you only need to know how to thread a needle! Your finished item can be made into a multitude of useful things such as a cushion, table mat, addition to a tote bag and much more. INVISIBLE ZIPS & FINISHING FACINGS/WAISTBANDS Claire Tyler This is a workshop that will unravel the mystery of setting in the perfect invisible zip, so that it disappears into the seam of a garment or project. Using both the specialist concealed zip foot and the standard one, you will practice sewing several invisible zips and will learn how to add a facing to the top. There will also be a demonstration of how to attach facings at the neckline entirely by machine. Suitable for intermediate level, those with some knowledge of using a sewing machine. ITALIAN CORDED QUILTING BY HAND Janet Goddard Italian or corded quilting involves inserting cord or yarn into a design that has stitched double parallel lines. JAPANESE PEN CASE ZIP Sukhbeer Dryden, Sew n Beads Learn how to make this very cute rectangular pen case. When the Pen Case is unzipped, it opens all the way so you can see all your stuff. When it is zipped, it makes a cute little rectangular box. The end of the zipper snaps to the bottom of the case to make the handle. You will learn how to inset a zip, completing the case using several different stabilizers and learning to stitch through many layers. Knowledge of using a sewing machine required and fabric colours may vary. SUNDAY

KNIT A BEAR BAUBLE COVER Luise Roberts Trivial and fun but also a great way to learn and a fantastic gift. Inspired by a hat in the Animal Hat to Knit book by Luise Roberts and published by GMC, come along to this class and knit a smaller Polar Bear hat for a bauble. Knit in the round on double-pointed needles, decrease stitches, pick up and knit for the nose and two ears. It is possible to knit this chap in two hours as long as you are quick with your needles and can knit and chat at the same time! Luise knits using the continental method, but she can also knit with the yarn in her right hand. This workshop could be the perfect opportunity to find out more about the continental method of knitting. Dexterity and concentration are required. KNIT YOUR OWN FELT SLIPPERS Irene de Jong In this class you will learn how make your own felt slippers. You will learn how to knit and learn how to follow the pattern to make the correct size. The felting itself will be done at home, in your own washing machine or by hand-wash and you will receive clear instructions which show you exactly how to do it. In the workshop you will learn about the process of felting, where it originated from, how felt can be used, what materials you need to start felting and you will receive supplies needed to make your own felt slippers. The slippers you will have made after you completed the felting process at home will be cosy and perfect for the autumn evenings. MAKE YOUR OWN MACRAME POT HOLDER Irene de Jong Macramé, or decorative knot-tying, is the art of knotting string, rope or cord into decorative patterns. Macramé is originated from Arabic weavers in the 13th century and sailors have taken the craft and used it to make pieces out of ship rope that they sold in various harbours all over the world. In this beginners class you will learn the basic nots needed to make a plant hanger. We will teach you the larks head knot, the gathering knot, the square knot and the half knot spiral. And we will show you how to combine these knots in order to make a completed piece of macramé. After two hours you will have completed a plant hanger. The workshops is suitable for all levels. QUILT AS YOU GO WITH SASHING & BINDINGS Sukhbeer Dryden, Sew n Beads How difficult is it to quilt a whole quilt in your sewing machine? Come and learn how to quilt as you go. In this workshop you will be able to create your complete squares with wadding and backing. These will then be quilted using simple templates. Once the squares are completed, you will learn how to attach your sashing. A simple way to quilt without the bulk. It doesn’t finish there; you will then bind this mini quilt making the perfect mitred corners. You will go home with a mini quilt complete with sashing, binding and a set of instructions. SCRAPTASTIC SELVEDGE PORT HOLE PATCHWORK Janet Goddard It is amazing how quickly you can generate a pile of fabric selvedges when you are sewing and fascinating to see what is printed on the edge of the fabric. This project puts those selvedges to good use. We stitch the selvedges into a port hole design and embellish them with embroidery and big stitch quilting. Using this idea, we will explore simple ways to repair rips and marks on clothes with metallic threads and fabric so they glitter and shine. You can begin to try a little applique or perhaps darning, use patches, add beads or easy embroidery. Test out at least one technique on sample fabric or bring your own garment. TUNISIAN CROCHET: FINGERLESS GLOVES Diana Bensted Learn to crochet the Tunisian way. Tunisian Crochet creates a very distinctive woven texture. It is worked on a very long hook with a stopper on the end to enables the stitches to stay on the hook. For this workshop, you will learn how to start, make Tunisian simple stitch and Tunisian purl stitches, how to use these in combination, and how to finish off. You will receive a Tunisian crochet hook, and yarn to practice, and also a pattern to make fingerless mitts with your new skills. WALKING FOOT QUILTING: BEYOND STRAIGHT LINES Moraig Hewitt Make your walking foot do more than just straight lines! The walking foot is a great tool for piecing, quilting and binding. It loves working with multiple layers and helps you and your machine get great results; but there's no need to feel limited to straight lines. WET FELT A SNAZZY NEEDLECASE WITH POCKET Carole Waddle Keep losing your pins and needles? Then learn the technique of how to make a snazzy wet felted needlecase cover using luxurious merino wool and silk fibres. You will also learn how to apply surface decoration, make tie closures and use a resist to create pockets on the inside flaps of the needlecase to store spare needles, safety pins and small scissors etc. To finish, you will be shown how to attach the inside leaves to the needlecase cover once the felt is dry.
