Load of MARC Enhanced SFX Records into Local Catalog

• Monthly or more frequent updates• Process Deletes [This is the tricky part]

– Special Load Table for III– Query database for unique character string

to build table of bibs requiring deletion -Horizon

– Custom loader that can use the 008$a subfield to process deletes – Horizon union catalog

MARC Enhancement - Process

1. Register IP address, hostname, and username/password for FTP from SFX server

2. Export e-journal file from SFX3. Initiate process, select output format4. Ex Libris ASP server performs enhancement

and returns file to server5. Load augmented e-journal file to MetaLib,

Aleph, or other database or catalog

MarcIt Service Web interface within SFX allows customer to

control when records are enhanced SFX export is sent to the MARC database,

where it is enhanced and returned The Ex Libris MARC database contains over 920,000

serials records Enhanced records are available in 3 formats

XML Aleph Sequential MARC Exchange

Updates to Records Updates are available monthly SFX compares current export to previous export

set (using an “incremental” file) Marks each record as new, changed, deleted, or

unchanged Unchanged records are compared to Ex Libris central

MARC database for changes there Report is sent with enhancement

Lists number of records enhanced and not enhanced, and summarizes total new, deleted, or changed
