JUNE A. MCDANIELS Hornell, N.Y. June A. McDaniels, 87, of 61 Adsit St., passed away Monday (Aug. 23, 2010) at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Rochester, April 26, 1923, the daughter of Fred and Dora Palmanteer Bayne, she had resided in Hornell nearly all her life, with the exception of time spent in California from 1964 to 1972. She was a graduate of St. James Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and was employed as an LPN at the former Bethesda Community Hospital and St. James Mercy Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Robert McDaniels, who she married in 1943; two daughters, Sue Ann (Glenn) Hann of Hornell, and Deborah (Michael) Wheeler of Almond; two sons, Robert (Paulette) McDaniels of Rochester, and Thomas (Theresa) McDaniels of California; one brother, Herbert (Carol) Bayne of Almond; 12 grandchildren and several greatgrandchildren. Born in The Town Of Ward, February 17, 1923, the son of Sherman and Edith Turybury Stuck, he had resided his early life in Alfred later residing in the Attica-Batavia areas for several years. While there, he was employed as a truck driver for Agway. Victor has served his country as a member of the United States Army during WW-2. He was predeceased by his wifeLucy Burdick Stuck in 1994, his sister. Bernice Dick and his brother Evert Stuck. Harold retired from Local Union 435 of Rochester, as a construction worker. He was an avid fisherman, stock car racing, loved watching wrestling on TV, and loved to take country rides with his family. He was predeceased by his parents, a daughter, Lorie Ann Gadsden, and a son, James Gadsden. He is survived by his wife, Minnie Pearl Sheppard Gadsden of Hornell; daughters, Brenda Gadsden Blake of Hornell, Edith Gadsden of Rochester, Okeena Gadsden of Hornell, Madeline Barkins of Syracuse, Margaret Ann Gadsden of South Carolina, Michelle Gadsden of South Carolina; sons, David Gadsden of Hornell, Harold Gadsden of South Carolina, Lawrence Gadsden of Florida, and Harold Gadsden of South Carolina; two sisters, Francis Marion Washington of Delaware, and Carrie Rhynes of Rochester; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. MARGARET MAGGIE OHARA Alfred, N.Y. Margaret Maggie Ohara of Alfred, died on Saturday (Aug. 14, 2010) while recovering from heart surgery at Rochester General Hospital. She was born on April 14, 1928, reared and educated in Hawaii. As a young girl, she performed as an aerial and acrobatic artist at civic organizations and a popular circus in Hawaii as well as the USO during World War II. An accomplished swimmer and diver, she held a Swimming National Championship which qualified her for the Olympic Games. A major disappointment was the cancellation of the games because of the war. Maggie was a certified civil service employer with positions at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Veterans Administration, Internal Revenue Service, Army Signal Corp all in Philadelphia; and Fort Jackson, S.C. Her last employer was Alfred University, where she worked in the business office. But her main contribution is the AU Women's Swim Team, which she founded and coached successfully. The lasting images of Maggie are a graceful dancer and a gracious hostess. She loved dancing, especially the fox trot, rumba, waltz,

jitterbug the old dances which she felt required precision and grace. She also loved to entertain family and friends, and this was expressed primarily through her dinners, simple and sumptuous. Cooking was almost a passion, and her favorite Asian-Hawaiian dishes were best realized at her annual Chinese New Year buffet supper. Many called her "the perfect hostess" or "the best cook." Whatever, she was dearly loved by many, and that includes her surviving family: her husband of 58 years, Dr. David M. Ohara, Emeritus Professor of English and Film at AU; daughter, Stacey Kiyo Ohara of Los Angeles, Calif.; son, Darren and his wife Deb; grandson, Justin; and great-granddaughters, Mackenzie and Jaden. According to Maggie's wishes, there will be neither a viewing nor a memorial service. Instead of flowers, please donate to the Alfred Ambulance Company or the charity of your choice.
