1. About This Document This document describes the features available through the Service Menu, in the 8212 Dect Handset. We describe how to operate the handset without going into details of its operations features. Complete description of operations features is addressed in a separate document.

1.1 Audience

This maintenance manual is dedicated for people who are in charge of the support of the 8212 Dect handset, (Technicians, system administrators, field experts …).

This document is not dedicated for End User.

2. Handset - Service Menu Management This section describes how to use the feature “Service Menu” available only to vendors and developers of the handset.

The document will also describe some options available in the Service Menu.

2.1 Service Menu

This menu is normally used to reveal features not used/seen by the end-user. By means of a special key sequence a special service menu can be accessed. This service menu enables some special features like Master reset, Site survey mode, Handset logs, Status, IPEI, Demo mode, Wideband and Test Tone.

To access the service menu, do as following step:

STEP 1 Click on Menu in idle mode > Type *7378423* (mnemonic: *SERVICE*) from the keypad to display the Service Menu.

2.2 Service Menu Parameter Definitions

The Service Menu is not for end users – only installers and suppliers.

Master Reset This feature allows the administrator to clear all settings to default, including registration and brings Handset to factory settings.

Valid inputs: Yes or No

Reset user data This feature allows the administrator to clear the user settings, without clearing the registration. Same function as the Reset Settings in the settings menu. Valid inputs: Yes or No Screen shots:

Site Survey Mode

To enable Site Survey Mode, do as following step: STEP 1 On the Service Menu (or Debug mode) scroll down to the Site survey mode > Enable the Site survey mode to switch from Off to On.

Remark: on the screen, we can see a normal flicker effect

This sets the handset in a state to list all visible bases around it and/or chained to the same base station(s). Handsets in site survey mode can display up to 5 base stations with the strongest signal strength. In Site Survey Mode the handset MMI shows the RFP (including slave RFP) to which the handset is locked to and the corresponding signal strength (RSSI). Valid Inputs: On or Off

Legend for the new site survey:

Line1: Lock State | Frequency | Slot | Base RPN locked

Line2: RPN (for 5 base stations)

Line3: RSSI (for 5 base stations)

Line4: A field CRC error | X field CRC error | Z field CRC error | No Lock / Lock to: base number

Line5: Quality index | Slow/Rapid Measurements | Syn error field | Fading

Parameter/Line Description

RPN The line contains the list of base stations identified by the handset as RPNs of the bases in respect to the signal strength values below. Up to 5 RPNs can be displayed.

-dBm

(Signal Strength)

This indicates the actual signal strength information (RSSI) to the base station the current handset is locked to and additional RFPs visible. RSSI unit is -dBm. The RSSI value increases the closer the base is to the handset.

If the base could not be detected, the RSSI value will decrease and after a while the entry will be deleted, if e.g. the dummy-bearer position has changed or the RFP is unreachable.

See "survey_doc_DECT_AGAPdm09011b0280086533.pdf" to explain additional lines of the site survey.

Note:

- Long press on * key: Slow/Rapid measurements

- Long press on # key: No Lock / Lock to base

Note:

This site survey mode is not appropriate for Dect installations due to lack of accuracy of quality index.

For Dect installations, please refer to “DECT and IP-DECT Engineering Rules and Site Survey Kit Manual (8AL_90874_USAAed01)”

HS Logs The HS log is a debugging feature that allows the user to retrieve low level interesting messages from the handset. The logs is divided into 4 submenus

1. Power

o Number of resets. o Number of new battery insertions

2. Network (Not stored on in eeprom)

o Number of out-of-lock events, where the protocol has sent an “out of lock” indication to the application layer.

o Number of CC-REJECT-IND, when a CC connection fails to be established. o Number of successfully released calls, where CC-RELEASE-IND has been received

by the handset. o Number of LOCATE-REQ-REJ events:

System: Number of locate rejects which are actively coming from the PBX. Other: Number of locate rejects which are due to timeouts or failed mac

connections. o Number of base-to-base handovers

Screenshots

3. OS

o Highest usage of Heap memory. o Highest number of OS mails queued. o Error log o Assert log

4. Clear counters

This function will clear all the counters in the sub menus: Power, network and OS. The log counters (number of resets, New battery, Out of lock, etc.) can also be cleared separately in each log menu.

The logs are described in the table below

HS Logs Description

Log error These are debug error logs retrieved from the PP log file. The last log retrieved is formatted into: Error: Log event error code. Valid value is 0000 to FFFF (in Hex). Line: Location within the software code which triggered this error. Valid value is 0000 to FFFF (in Hex). Address: Register bank and/address from which error occurred. Valid value is 00000000 to FFFFFFFF (in Hex.) Timestamp: Date and Time when the log error event occurred.

Log Assert This reports of the function/exception handler that runs after an erroneous state in handset operation. Next assert ID: Immediate exception handler ID to be run when a specific error occurs. Valid value is 00 to FF (in Hex). Assert address: Register bank and/address where an exception handler is executed as a result of the error which occurred. Valid value is 00000000 to FFFFFFFF (in Hex.)

Demo mode

The demo mode disables the screen saver, so be aware of that when this mode is enabled battery consumption will increase, and will block handset switch off.

Wideband:

Not available on the 8212 Dect handset. Shall be left Off

Test Tone on OK key

When this feature is enabled (On) a 1 kHz test tone can be put into the audio streaming, e.g. when a call has been established press the center key of the handset (where this feature is enabled) and the test tone is streamed through to the counterpart handset.

This feature only works if the handset is registered in GAP mode. In AGAP mode the handset will press on the OK key will enquiry a call.

Headset trace

When this feature is enabled (On) it is possible to do tracing using the headset connector. The reason for this is that when a headset is connected the amplifier is turned on, which will prevent the tracing part. Enabling this feature turns off the amplifier.

Handover Criteria

Change the handover criteria for the HS. In AGAP the handset receives information to set the handset in either “Normal” or “Noisy” mode, if one of these modes currently selected in the handset the value is updated to the new value. The “Enhanced” value cannot be overwritten by the PBX. Using this mode the system operator can overwrite any value sent to the handset by the PBX.

3. Handset – Production test Management This section describes how to use the feature “Production test Menu” available only to vendors and developers of the handset.

3.1 Production test Menu

This menu is used by production to test that the hardware (Keypad, display etc) is working as expected. By means of a special key sequence a production test menu can be accessed.

To access the Production test menu, do the following step:

STEP 1 : Click on Menu in idle mode > Type *789* from the keypad to display the Production test Menu

Note: at the end of the test mode, it is recommended to power off the handset and to power on it again to restart properly the normal use.

3.2 Production test menu Parameter Definitions :

The Service Menu is not for end users – only installers and suppliers.

Test all

Will run all following tests automatically (except wideband test) and is only pause to get user feedback whether the Handset responds as expected.

Display test

Test if there are any pixel errors in the display. Will automatically switch between the different colours and await user feedback at the end.
