FORMWORK CARRIAGE FOR EXTERNAL BRIDGE EDGE BEAMS8All construction parts in a survey:The very sturdy formwork carriage consists of a movable basic rack with two cantilever girders, to which the working plat-form is attached, including a continuous side protection.When working at bridges in big heights safety has first priority. Thats why we drop the use of wood for the side protec-tion elements. The continuous plancking made of riffle sheet with lateral edge setting without gaps will guarantee a safeprotection against falling of small parts. This is very important at bridges crossing busy traffic routes.
The side protection is build of plug-in type aluminium frames, which are as strong to be also usable as a ladder.
To adjust the formwork steel walings, all spindles can be reached easily from one point. The adjusting is done easily with afree wheeling wrench with a long lever arm.
The steel construction of the carriage consists of only 3 mounting groups:
1. basic rack carriage with ballast W = 2400 kg (without ballast)
2. cantilever girderswith diagonal bracing and slidingundercarriage to suspend the working
platformW = 3950 kg

Mounting: quick and safe
The mounting of the carriage is very quick and easy to realize with less staff because of premounted elements delivered tosite. This helps to prevent accidents during mounting and using.We will send a foreman on request for first instructions, charging only a flat rate.
1. step:connecting of the premounted basic racks
3. step:onnecting of 2 cantilever beams to 1 element with 3 cross struts and 2 diagonal bracings
2. step: placing of the concrete ballast
4. step: placing onto the carriage and installation of the rear anchoring
5. step:mounting of the vertical beams with steel walings to the platform

Adjusting of the bottom- and lateral sideformwork
The big advantage in handling our carriage is the separatedhorizontal and vertical adjustment of the formwork walings.
Universal and quick possibilities of adjustment:All spindles to adjust the formwork walings can be reachedeasily from one side, standing on the platform.The adjustment at all spindles can be done quickly with thehelp of the delivered free wheeling wrench SW 46.During construction we took careof the fact that allhorizontal and vertical directions of the steel walings can beadjusted separatly and independent from each other.The steel walings for the side formwork can be inclined with
2 adjustment spindles independent to the vertical beam of theplatform, without adjusting the whole platform.The special effect: The steel waling adjusted to a specialangle can be adjusted subsequently in height withoutchanging the angle.The result is a enormous quick adjusting and time saving.Additionally an adjustable brace is fixed at the lower side ofthe girder to adjust the complete suspended construction inhorizontal direction.With the help of the inclinded brace the vertical girder willbe placed into the vertical position with the formworkconstruction.After that the fine adjustment of the formwork as decribedabove can be done.

Movable unit L = 5.0 m.The main girder which is placed ontothe secondary beams can be shiftedlateral and adjusted exactly over the gapbetween the bridges.The working platform at the lowerbridge side will be suspended at twooversized tie rods and is thereforevariable in height.These units can be moved without pro-blem with the self drive lifting carriage.The edge beam formwork is held byadditional separate tie rods.
The 4 corner props of the platform haverollers, which have a loose contact tothe lower bridge side.Because these corner props areadjustable separately in height theplatform can be adjusted to heightdifferences in the direction of theroadway. (or of the superstructure ).In that way a lateral tilting of theplatform as a result of one sided loads isprevented.These 5 m long units can be placed oneafter the other in random numbers.

For the casing and striking of theinternal edge beams we provide a
mechanism using steel wedgeinsertions. The side formwork made ofwood must have according inclinedwooden layers on the back side.To adjust the correct lateral distance forthe gaps between the edge beams thewedges at the spindles can be lifted orlowered exactly in height.For striking the wedge layers will belifted, the side formwork will come freeand can be removed upwards.

The basic racks with cantilever girders and ballast placed on one superstructure are identical with the construction for the
external edge beams. A main girder willl be placed exactly over the gap between the bridge onto the cantilever beams .The suspension of the working platform is done with an according number of tie rods, the same way as with the carriage atboth sides of the bridge (see drawing page 10).
