WELCOME

As a consumer electronics company, Harman Kardon dates

back to the days of monaural sound and vacuum tubes. And

yet here we are, still going strong after more than 50 years,

still headed by our founder, Dr. Sidney Harman, and still

following our own path, in our own way. The question is, can a

brand revered by the very first audiophiles possibly

command the respect of the iPod® generation? We’re

delighted you asked.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe borrowed “less is more” from the poet

Robert Browning, implementing that aesthetic in his building designs.

We borrowed it from Mies. While minimalism has become a major force

in architecture, music and design, it has also been one of our guiding

principles from the very beginning. At Harman Kardon, we believe that

good design consists of essential elements presented in their purest

form, with an absence of excess or embellishment. We could go on and

on about this, but that would be icing on the cake. We don’t do icing.

/ DIGITAL MEDIA CENTERS

It has long been a dream to create a media server that works like an entertainment

device, not a computer. This ideal player would be conversant in a universe of digital

storage technologies and formats, serving as the one go-to device to finally bridge the

gaping DVD/CD/music system/cell phone/camera divide. This is no longer just a dream –

behold, the Harman Kardon Digital Media Centers.

DMC 100044--SSttrreeaamm DDiiggiittaall MMeeddiiaa CCeenntteerr WWiitthh PPrrooggrreessssiivvee--SSccaann DDVVDD--VViiddeeoo PPllaayybbaacckk aanndd 225500GGBB IInntteerrnnaallHHaarrdd DDrriivvee

Smaller but vastly smarter and better looking than your average CD storage rack, the DMC 1000 will digitize, catalogue and

store as many as 60,000 songs as you play them, allowing you to banish all those aging jewel cases to the attic. It will also let

you distribute four separate audio streams from your music library to different locations in your home. With touch-sensitive front-

panel controls (the ultimate no-button design), a concealed front-panel USB jack and hidden memory card slots, the DMC 1000

will even let you transfer your music for use in portable players, card-equipped cars and cell phones. And your iPod? Full

audio/video playback and charging with The Bridge universal dock (sold separately and very much worth it).

DMC 250DDiiggiittaall MMeeddiiaa CCeenntteerr WWiitthh PPrrooggrreessssiivvee--SSccaann DDVVDD--VViiddeeoo//AAuuddiioo PPllaayybbaacckk

Any device that aspires to be called a digital media center ought to be a welcoming home base for all your digital gear – your

portable music player, your camera, your cell phone, your what-have-you. With a front-panel USB jack and CF, SD, MMC and

Memory Stick® card slots, the DMC 250 has you covered. Connect an external hard drive to access your entire music library.

Refresh or reload any or all of your digital devices on a whim. Or simply enjoy DVD-Video or DVD-Audio playback of your favorite

entertainment in all its full-spectrum glory.

TECHNICAL PHILOSOPHY

Harman Kardon was delivering high bandwidth before most people

realized it was a good thing. Technology leaders can only lead by example,

and we’ve been setting a series of very good examples for more than

50 years. Many of the technologies found in today’s finest amplifiers

were introduced by Harman Kardon. And we’ve always been quick to

adopt and improve on any good ideas we didn’t actually think of ourselves.

It doesn’t happen often, you understand, but it happens.

A maximum number of options, a minimum number of buttons. Harman Kardon A/V

receivers employ the industry’s most advanced technologies to optimize the audio and

video clarity of any entertainment source, old or new. Yet even certified technophobes will

discover – once they stop trembling – that they can operate them successfully.

Connecting the dots to create the perfect picture. Today’s home entertainment systems are likely to

include a variety of sources and formats and, to make the most of them, they need to work together.

That’s what the AVR 745 is all about. HDMI single-wire connectivity? Times two. DCDi® by Faroudja

processing? Yes, with complete adjustments for each video input. iPod playback and navigation?

Check, with The Bridge universal dock and TC 30 remote. XM Ready® and USB-capable? Yes and yes.

With 85 watts of true power to drive each of seven channels, dual subwoofer outputs (the “.2” in 7.2),

and the EzSet/EQ™ II system to precisely tune the system’s performance parameters to the

requirements of your room, the AVR 745 is ideal for a large-scale home theater or a truly impressive

2-channel music system. Or both.

A/V receivers are like Swiss Army knives. Some are just more capable than others. The AVR 347 includes today’s most-wanted

technologies: DCDi by Faroudja processing, Simplay HD™-verified HDMI 1.2a connectivity, EzSet® equalization and A-BUS® multiroom

capability. All good. But the AVR 347 also features an intuitive user interface that makes all those technologies easier to set up and

actually use. Harman Kardon’s founder, Dr. Sidney Harman, has always believed technology should serve, not intimidate. The AVR 347

is a perfect case in point.

AVR 24777 xx 5500WW 77..11--CChhaannnneell AA//VV RReecceeiivveerr WWiitthh HHDDMMII SSwwiittcchhiinngg//RReeppeeaatteerr aanndd AAuuddiioo//VViiddeeoo PPrroocceessssiinngg

Don’t think of video scaling as an extra expense. Think of it as an investment in your existing video library. The AVR 247 is the most affordable

Harman Kardon receiver to upscale incoming video signals to the high-resolution 720p standard. But wait, there’s more. It features two

Simplay HD-verified HDMI inputs and EzSet/EQ technology. And, like all Harman Kardon receivers, it features a high-current, ultrawide-

bandwidth design for maximum fidelity. Is it the ideal receiver to rescue your pre-HD DVDs? That’s a call only you can make.

AVR 14755 xx 4400WW 55..11--CChhaannnneell AA//VV RReecceeiivveerr WWiitthh HHDDMMII SSwwiittcchhiinngg

Get connected. Two Simplay HD-verified HDMI inputs. Two 100MHz-capable component video inputs. Four S-video inputs. Six coax and

optical digital audio inputs. XM Ready and The Bridge connections. DTS®, Logic 7® and Dolby® surround sound processing technologies. The

AVR 147 is our most powerful 5.1-channel receiver, and one of the most versatile receivers out there.

AVR 14655 xx 3300WW 55..11--CChhaannnneell AA//VV RReecceeiivveerr WWiitthh HHDDMMII SSwwiittcchhiinngg

Judge it feature for feature, or dollar for dollar. Generally speaking, people choose Harman Kardon components based on performance, not

price. But the AVR 146 can be chosen for either. Its two-input Simplay HD-verified HMDI switching, Cirrus Logic® 49510 signal processing,

A/V sync delay and a high-current amplifier design mean pure Harman Kardon sound. But at a price that’s lower than you’d expect.

THE BRIDGEOf course you can plug your iPod into any music system,

The Bridge changes that. It’s a universal iPod dock that

HISTORY

In 1953, Sidney Harman and Bernard Kardon formed a company to

introduce a highly sensitive FM tuner that was a revelation at the time.

The following year, they combined their superior tuner with a superior

amplifier, creating an unheard-of device, which they called a receiver. In

the years to come, landmark Harman Kardon products would lead the

transition from vacuum tubes to solid state, from mono to stereo, and

from analog to digital. With features that often broke new ground, and

performance that always set higher standards, nothing else ever

looked or sounded quite like Harman Kardon components. And that’s

just the way we wanted it.

Can the turntable and the iPod coexist peacefully? Yes, and elegantly. The insanely

powerful HK 3485 combines an audiophile’s must-haves (high-performance phono

preamp, preout/main-in jacks, high-current amplification) with the multichannel world’s

The thing about specialists is, they’re very good at what they do. The HK 3385 was born

to make beautiful music. To that end, it features high-current, ultrawide-bandwidth

amplification – a signature Harman Kardon technology that delivers all the subtlety of

an original musical performance, whether reproduced from vinyl or your MP3 player of

choice. But even specialists enjoy a change of pace from time to time. So the HK 3385

also features four high-quality video inputs. A/V cable included.

Not everyone’s a movie buff. Some people care more about Rachmaninoff’s third piano

concerto than whatever Rosebud turned out to be. For them, and for music purists of all other

persuasions, Harman Kardon keeps the audio faith by offering a choice of powerful stereo

receivers engineered by and for people who, if given a choice, would prefer to be entertained with

their eyes closed.

Can the turntable and the iPod coexist peacefully? Yes, and elegantly. The insanely

powerful HK 3485 combines an audiophile’s must-haves (high-performance phono

More than a few of the earliest Harman Kardon products – some of them pushing 50 by now –

are still in use today, and some of our earliest CD and DVD players are surely among them. But

to fully experience the very highest resolution of today’s digital sources, you’ll need one of our

newest DVD players. We know upgrading isn’t always a joy. But we promise that you’ll notice

the difference.

We didn’t start with a business plan in 1953; we started with a product.

We weren’t looking to find a marketing niche for ourselves; we were

looking to build audio components that satisfied our own passion for

music. We built our very first systems for ourselves and a handful of

others who could hear what we heard. These days, Harman Kardon

has a business plan, R&D labs and a marketing department –

everything a prestigious company should have. But we’re still building

systems for people who hear what we hear.

the AVR 247 include a second-zone remote control. Which means Harman Kardon

HOME THEATER SPEAKER SYSTEMS

Let Harman Kardon make this simple for you. As you probably know, a 5.1-channel

speaker system consists of four satellite speakers, a center channel speaker

primarily for dialogue, and a powered subwoofer. So if you’re ordering a la carte,

that’s four from column A, one from column B and one from column C. Simple

enough. Except the center ought to be voice-matched to the satellites, the sub

shouldn’t overpower the center or the satellites, and all six should be matched to

your electronics. Suddenly, it’s not that simple. Unless you simply choose one from

the column of Harman Kardon HKTS speaker packages.

adrenaline-pumping sound effects by the HKTS 15 speaker system. Produced and directed by

the AVR 247. With a crew as distinguished and talented as this, can pure movie magic possibly

elude you?

“Great Entertainment.” There may be no greater value for your entertainment dollar than the

CP 55. An AVR 146, a DVD 38 and an HTKS 15 speaker package deliver true Harman Kardon

performance, with features you’d expect only in a much bigger-budget production.

Highly portable high fidelity. Acoustically advanced Harman Kardon

700 Series earphones deliver clear, accurate sound from any

portable music or DVD player. And their lightweight, in-ear design

blocks out ambient sound better than many bulky, battery-powered

noise-canceling headphones. So you can enjoy the full dynamic range

of your favorite music and movies without cranking up the volume

to unnatural -- or even unsafe -- listening levels.

EP 730HHiigghh--FFiiddeelliittyy,, NNooiissee--IIssoollaattiinngg EEaarrpphhoonneess

Splendid isolation, awesome bass. EP 730 earphones offer

natural noise isolation to 35dB and feature advanced

transducers for fidelity that rivals even high-end over-ear

headphones. And with an in-line volume control and Bass

Boost switch, you’re certain not to miss a single note of your

favorite music, wherever you happen to be. Available in black

or white.

EP 720HHiigghh--FFiiddeelliittyy,, NNooiissee--IIssoollaattiinngg EEaarrpphhoonneess

Noise isolation is passive. Sound reproduction is anything but.

Natural noise isolation to 35dB clears the way for highly

accurate sonic reproduction with enhanced bass – even at low

listening levels. EP 720 earphones deliver realistic, full-spectrum

sound, yet they slip easily into a shirt pocket. Available in

black or white.

earphones free you to concentrate on your favorite music and

movies, oblivious to any commotion around you. Available in
