■ Heathfield Primary is a founding member of a group of 10 schools that started the School at the Centre of the Community (S@CC) experience in South Africa. Through Metropolitan Foundation the school staff were given training earlier this month by the organisation Character for Life.The programme is about teaching pupils seven values: caring, trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, citizenship and faith. Each value has a colour and the teachers spent one month on each value, starting with caring by tying red banners around the trees and red balloons and red banners in the school foyer.All pupils and staff came to school dressed in red on Monday August 13. That was the message at a packed Women’s Day event hosted by the organisation Where Rainbows Meet in Vrygrond on Thursday August 9.“We have a lot of strong women in Vrygrond,” said Mymoena Scholtz, director of Where Rainbows Meet. Lavender Hill community worker, Clive Jacobs hosted a netball tournament on Wednesday August 8, to revive sports in the gang- ridden area. ■ Clive Jacobs and Allison Martin, 15, who was the most outstanding player of the day.The winning team was Weltevreden Netball Club from Mitchell’s Plain. They won the championship and best dressed team. “It was a very good sporting day for the whole Cape Flats with 300 people attending the games,” said Mr Jacobs.
