2021 FALL EASTERN KOREA “8 NIGHT” LAND TOUR DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1: Fri, Oct 15 – HONOLULU. Depart Honolulu.

Day 2: Sat, Oct 16 – SEOUL. Arrive Incheon International Airport. After entry formalities, transfer by coach to your hotel in Seoul. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant before checking in to the hotel. LOTTE CITY HOTEL MYEONGDONG (2 Nights) (D)

Day 3: Sun, Oct 17 – SEOUL. After breakfast, start the day with a drive by Blue House, the executive office and official residence of the president of the Republic of Korea. Blue House literally means “pavilion of blue tiles,” which the house is known for. Then explore Gyeongbok Palace, National Folk Museum, and Bukchon Hanok Village. Gyeongbok Palace was the main royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910). Located within the grounds of Gyeongbok Palace, the National Folk Museum uses replicas of historic objects to illustrate the history of the Korean people. Bukchon Hanok Village is a residential area in Seoul with countless hanoks (traditional Korean houses). After lunch, tour and shop at Insadong Antique Street, Cheonggyecheon Stream, and Dongdaemun Market Shopping. The traditional culture of Korea is represented in Insadong Antique Street. Stores in Insadong specialize in a wide variety of goods including ceramics, earthenware, calligraphy materials, antique furniture, hanbok (traditional clothing), hanji (traditional paper), traditional teas, souvenirs, cute accessories, and folk crafts. Stroll along Cheonggyecheon Stream, running through downtown Seoul. Dongdaemun Market is Korea’s largest wholesale and retail shopping district – where a wide variety of goods can be found at a reasonable price – and it’s open 24 hours a day! Tour Yangnyeongsi Herb Medicine Market. Enjoy dinner before returning to the hotel. (B, L, D)

Day 4: Mon, Oct 18 – SEOUL – CHUNCHEON – PYEONGCHANG. After breakfast, travel to Chuncheon and nearby Nami Island, the half-moon shaped isle famous for its tree lined roads and being the filming site of the Korean Drama “Winter Sonata.” Next, walk across the Soyang River Skywalk. From a distance, it looks like just a bridge on the river. But when you get closer, you realize that it’s a bridge with a transparent glass floor that allows you to see the river below as you walk over the bridge – giving you the thrill of walking on the lake. Located next to the skywalk is the Virgin Statue, inspired by the popular Korean pop song Soyanggang Virgin. After lunch, travel to Pyeongchang to learn to make Injeolmi (rice cake) at Jeonggangwon. Jeonggangwon is the nation’s first museum dedicated to educating visitors on traditional Korean food culture. Enjoy the Injeolmi with Bibimbap (Korean rice with mixed vegetables) for dinner. After dinner, transfer to your hotel for the evening. INTERCONTINENTAL ALPENSIA RESORT (1 Night) (B, L, D)

Day 5: Tue, Oct 19 – PYEONGCHANG – GANGNEUNG. After breakfast, the morning will be spent at Woljeongsa Temple, located in the forested valley east of Odaesan Mountain. Be one with Mother Nature as you take a stroll along the thousand-year old fir tree forest. Then, learn how to make a wooden bead bracelet. Next, observe a Dado (Korean Tea Ceremony). The subtle fragrance wafting from the well-brewed tea will relax your body and clear your mind as the hurriedness of urban life fades away as you cozily chat with monks and fellow participants. For lunch, enjoy Gongyang (Buddhist Meal Service). After lunch, travel to Gangneung and tour the Jeongdongjin Hourglass Park where the world’s largest hourglass sculpture is at its centerpiece. Filled with approximately 8 tons of sand and weighing 40 tons, it takes whole year for the sand to trickle down to the bottom before the hourglass is turned over and restarted at midnight on New Year’s Day each year. After dinner, transfer to your hotel for the evening. ST. JOHN’S HOTEL (2 Nights) (B, L, D)

Day 6: Wed, Oct 20 – GANGNEUNG. After breakfast, begin the day with a visit to the Jumunjin Fish Market. Founded in 1936, Jumunjin Fish Market is the largest seafood market on the East Coast and includes a dried seafood market and a sashimi center. Market specialties include

squid, mackerel, Pollack, pikes and crab. Visitors can purchase fresh and dried seafood items at inexpensive prices. After lunch, visit Ojukheon House. Built during the early Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910), Ojukheon House remains one of the oldest wooden residential buildings in Korea. It was designated as Treasure No. 65 in 1963. Then visit Seongyojang Old House, the former residence of nobleman, Naebeon Lee (1703–1781). It was designated Important Folklore Material No. 5 in 1967. It is said that 10 generations of descendants of Naebeon Lee have continued to live at Seongyonjang. The house is one of the top 10 most well preserved original dwellings in Korea that was constructed over the past 300 years. After dinner, an optional evening tour to Gyeongpo Beach will be offered. (B, L, D)

Day 7: Thur, Oct 21 – GANGNEUNG – ICHEON – SEOUL. After breakfast, travel to Icheon and tour the Icheon Pottery Village. The village became the center of traditional pottery during the Joseon Dynasty due to the easily obtainable material in the area. Presently about 80 pottery factories are congregated in the village and about 3,000 pottery kilns are still in use. You will have the chance to make your own pottery here. After lunch, travel to Seoul where the we will spend some time shopping at Namdaemun Market. Namdaemun Market was opened in 1964, is the largest traditional market in Korea with over 10,000 retailers, vendors and wholesalers. The market, which is spread out over several blocks, has the largest collection of interesting and traditional Korean items for sale in one place. It has been said: if it is sold in Korea, or anywhere else in the world, then you will most likely find it at one of the many stalls here. Relax over dinner before transferring to the hotel for the evening. LOTTE CITY HOTEL MYEONGDONG (3 Nights) (B, L, D)

Day 8: Fri, Oct 22 – SEOUL. After breakfast, give your senses a thrill at the Trick Eye Museum. Trick Eye is shortened from the phrase “Trick of the eye” and refers to the traditional art technique Trompe-l’oeil that turns two dimensional paintings into three dimensional images through the use of optical illusions. Paintings on museum walls, floors and ceilings come alive! Visitors are invited to step inside Trick Eye paintings and installation and create their own original stories. Next, explore the Ice Museum, located inside the Trick Eye Museum. Explore the ice hotel, view the different ice sculptures, take a slide down the 10 meter ice slide, and become an angel of the Ice Kingdom! After lunch, explore the shopping available at the Hongdae Daiso, a dollar shop that offers various products at low prices. Then try your hand at learning how to write Korean Alphabet Calligraphy. You’ll have the chance to write a phrase on paper and take it home as a souvenir. In addition, the instructor will also write your name on a postcard to take home as well. Next learn how to play various Traditional Korean Instruments. Dinner tonight is at Todai International Buffet. (B, L, D)

Day 9: Sat, Oct 23 – SEOUL. Today is a free day to spend at your leisure. Still have shopping on the mind? You can return to the various shopping areas the group has explored already on the tour, or you can ask the local guide for suggestions. Have fun exploring Seoul on your own. (B)

Day 10: Sun, Oct 24 – SEOUL – HONOLULU. Morning is at your leisure. After lunch, spend some time shopping before return to Incheon International Airport for our return flight home. Depart Seoul and arrive Honolulu the same day. Aloha and Welcome Home! (B, L)
