Shield Anchors - Bolt Type
The Shield Anchor is a high performance expansion anchor for solid brickwork or concrete.
The loose Bolt Type allows the expanding anchor part to be inserted in the base material. The fixture (base plate etc) can then be moved into position. The hexagon head bolt with washer can be placed through the fixture locating into the shield. The bolt should then be tightened to the recommended torque figures shown below.
The Stud Type allows the anchor to be inserted into the base material leaving the stud protruding. The fixture (base plate etc) can then be placed over the stud. The nut and washer are then replaced securing the fixture. The nut should then be tightened to the recommended torque figures shown below.
Each shield has a spring clip to retain anchor shape and can allow the anchor to be relaxed, removed and re-used. Four segment expansion gives good all round hole contact therefore greater holding power. The Shield Anchor has a fast expanding cone that is shaped to act directly on the segments without deformation for a positive, quick setting. Finish: Zinc plated & Yellow Passivated
Hammerset anchors are a concrete fixing that works as a permanent socket as it is not reliant on continual torque to remain expanded. Hammerset anchors can be set flush or at depth allowing difficult or heavy fixtures to be moved into place over the fixing. Shallow embedment means shorter drilling times and less chance of connecting with reinforcing bars. Matched tapers ensure optimum expansion and four slot design gives excellent all round contact. Permanent female thread means any bolt or threaded bar of the correct diameter can be inserted or removed leaving the anchor undisturbed. Due to it’s independent nature this anchor is particularly suited for many suspension applications. Applications: Suspension pipework, ductwork, sprinkler systems, cable tray, overhead heating and suspended ceilings. Also for securing brackets, base plates, frames used in conjunction with machinery, street furniture, seating racking and numerous other fixtures.

Sleeve anchors are an extremely versatile fixing that can be used in a variety of applications and base materials. Two head styles are available - hex bolt head (see page 08 08) and the integral nut combined with fixed serrated washer. The integral nut version is better suited to applications where appearance is not paramount and gives better vibration resistance than the hex bolt variety. Through fixing means that the fixture (base plate, etc) can be moved into it’s precise position and then the anchor can be installed.

A thin walled anchor giving low stress in the base material allowing smaller edge and centre spacing distances. A wide range of diameters and lengths are available to cover many applications. Sleeve anchors are supplied complete thus reducing installation time to a minimum. Particularly suitable for use in solid base materials such as concrete, stone, rock and brickwork. Can also be used with limited suitability in dense concrete blocks, perforated brickwork and light aggregate blocks. Zinc and yellow passivated finish for greater corrosion protection.
The hex bolt head gives a neat finish in applications where minor vibration is not a consideration. Through fixing means that the fixture can be moved into it’s precise position and then the anchor can be installed.

The MKT High Load Anchor SZ is a torque controlled expansion anchor system (ETA, Option 1), designed for quick through fastening in cracked and non-cracked concrete. The SZ is BZS shock approved.
Specially machined expansion sleeve and cone provides positive expansion by reduced friction, ensuring maximum grip. Clamping action on fixture provided by the nylon compression ring which also forms a moisture barrier.
Countersunk Head for flush fixing (requires allen type hex key to tighten) and Hex Head are both approved loads and performance data as per ETA-02/0030, Option 1. The design of the High Load Anchor makes it particularly suitable for withstanding vibration and shock loads.
Applications: Medium to heavy duty anchoring of base plates, supports, pallet racks, brackets, railings in cracked and non-cracked concrete.
The Probrolly is a collapsible metal anchor providing a high strength fixing in a wide range of cavity applications such as plasterboard, hardboard, plywood, hollow brick and block work. The Probrolly’s all steel bright zinc plated construction provides a fire resistant, high strength fixing with added corrosion protection. The Probrolly is quickly set by a special installation tool but can also be set by a standard hand or cordless screwdriver. Once set, the Probrolly becomes a captive fixing allowing the screw to be removed for demounting the fixture many times. Due to its lugged collar it is non-rotational. The Probrolly’s wide range enables fixing in material from 3 - 45mm thickness, allowing a maximum fixing thickness of up to 20mm. The Probrolly is particularly suitable for fixing radiators and wall cupboards to plasterboard. Also for other applications where extra performance is especially important.
Drill to correct size Turn screw to set Probrolly
Remove screw, place through fixture and back into Probrolly then tighten the screw.
Suitable for use in cracked and un-cracked concrete. Also for use in brickwork, stone, wood, marble, block and other construction materials. No expansion, allows close to edge fixing and close fixing to fixing spacing. Easy to handle and use, no extra parts. Screw directly in to masonry. Threading system allows for total removal of anchor from substrate. Balancing thread ensures correct alignment of screw. Finish: Zinc and Yellow Passivation. Galvanised—see table for sizes. CE marked sizes are available. POA.
SWL= Safe Working Load *Performance values refer to hexagon and hexagon flange head styles only. More Technical specific information is available on request.
1. Drill hole in substrate, using correct diameter, ensuring the hole is deep enough to accommodate dust caused by threading action.
2. Remove any loose dust from the hole.
3. Screw in the Thunderbolt with a socket wrench. Apply a slight downward pressure to start the self tapping action.
4. Tighten the Thunderbolt until the fixture is in place. If resistance is met, unscrew one turn and re-tighten. Do not over tighten.
5. For optimum performance, a torque wrench should be used. Do not exceed tightening torque shown below.

Rechem polyester resin system is designed for anchoring studs, re-bars, etc to most masonry base materials whether solid or hollow. The two parts are stored separately in the cartridge and mixed together in the nozzle on application. This ensures a good flow and an even mix between the aggregate base and the hardener. Rechem resin gives high tensile strengths when cured and it also allows fittings to be placed closer to edges and each other. Rechem is suitable for vibrating loads and is also resistant to dynamic loads. Rechem is completely universal and can be used with any size stud or bar.
Installation instructions Preparation : Drill hole to required diameter and depth according to table. Clean hole thoroughly and remove all dust. Application: Select appropriate nozzle, screw into cartridge. Squeeze material out of gun until an even colour is achieved. Apply to hole, working from the base out (half fill). Insert the bolt into the resin, rotating to fully coat the surface. Wipe away excess material. Once resin has cured, fixture may be attached and nut tightened. Curing: This is variable depending on temperature e.g. 20°C cures in 2 hours or at 10°C cures in 3 hours. (See 08 18 for other curing characteristics).

FAST SETTING TIMES - TYPICALLY @ 20°C; GEL TIME 6 MINUTES, FULL CURE 1 HOUR
Tension Figures quoted are tested in accordance with B.S. 5080 PART 1 in approximately 30 N/mm2 concrete. The ultimate pull out strength is varied by: 1 The strength of both the substrate and bar/stud 2 The length of the resin bond to bar 3 Hole preparation and cleanliness 4 Anchor separation Safety factors should be considered depending on the strength and nature of the substrate. Due to the inconsistent nature of hollow blocks and bricks tension figures may vary. Site testing should be carried out where necessary to establish particular suitability. In order to achieve maximum performance the distance between the centres of the anchors should be a minimum of 2.0 x the embedment depth, and 1.25 x the embedment depth for the minimum distance from edges.

Sleeves
Perforated, grey nylon sleeves for greater performance in hollow or poor base materials. Two sizes of sleeve that come complete with collars for overhead use. Collars also ensure that studs are kept central in normal use.
Larger size of 20mm x 85mm for use with 16mm chemical studs or M16 studding. Smaller size of 15mm x 85mm for use with 12mm chemical studs or M12 studding.
Installation should be carried out in the normal manner but hollow sleeves must be at least half filled. Smaller chemical studs or studding may be used but greater quantities of resin are needed to fill the sleeve void, collars should also be used on these occasions.
Spare Mixing Nozzles
KM 10 mixing nozzles ensure RECA Resin injection is as cost effective as possible. Due to the fact the resin mixes in the nozzle, RECA injection cartridges can be re-used.
After the last hole is completed simply remove the nozzle, wipe away any excess resin from the cartridge and replace end caps. To re-use (within shelf life) simply connect a new nozzle and use as normal.
Care should be taken that the nozzle is firmly attached but not over tightened as this restricts flow and can lead to an incorrect mix.

The combination of resin anchor capsules, threaded studs and the coarseness of hammer drilled holes produces a fixing generally stronger than the base material. This stress free fixing allows close to edge fixings or anchor groups with small spacings. Chemical anchors are also an excellent option for applications that involve shock or vibration loads.
1. Drill hole to the correct length and diameter. 2. Clean hole completely by brushing and blowing. 3. Insert capsule into cleaned hole. 4. Drive stud into capsule, chisel end first, stud should be mounted in a 3 jaw chuck hammer drill, on
rotary hammer. Zinc studs come complete with hexagon drive bar to allow simple application. 5. Ensure the stud is set into capsule up to setting mark. 6. Carefully release setting tool and allow full curing time before
tightening or applying any load.

Torque Measurements
The above charts are intended as a guide only and to confirm suitability. For accurate loading levels and usage rates a practical site trial is recommended. Due to the varying strengths of substrates based on hollow bricks and hollow blocks the figures are given in good faith but a full site trial for each different applications is strongly recommended. All tension and shear figures are shown including a safety factor of 4:1.
Usage figures allow for the amount to fill a mixer nozzle but no further wastage or substrate being porous in any way.
