The history of the l60th Infa.1try Regiment began on October 14, 1917, when the former Seventh Inf'antry Regiment,.California 'National Guard, and six eoi.Upanies of the Second Infantry,California National Guard ~ere consolidated and redesignated the l60th Infantry Regiment, 40th Division, United States. Army. The Regiment saw service in France during the World War, returned home in Karch, 1919, and was demobilized at Camp Kearney, California, May 7, 1919.*
hen she Armistice was signed on November 11, 1918, the National Guard of California consisted of six companies of infantry, and the task of reorganizing a new National Guard confronted the State. The National Defense Act of June 4, 1916, provided the manner of proceedure, c..nd in k.pril, 1920, permission was granted to the State of California by the lfili tia Bureuu, to organize one regiment of infantry to include the six companie3 then in existence. I~ was decided, however, to delay tne final organization of the r-egiment until

On August 23, 1921, ·the 160th Infantry Regiment was orgat.:~ i.zed with headquart in Los Angeles. The Regiment was the first organization to be mustered into
the new National Guard. The AdjutantGeneral's Order of August 23, 1921, redesignated the Second, Third, and Fourth Separate BattCJlions of Infantry as First, Second, and Third Battalions, l60th Inf"antry Regim~mt. The units · comprising the Regiment, and their locations were as follows:
