The success of the hospitalist model has led to greater demands on hospitalists, including caring for increasingnumbers of patients, the critically ill, and patients who have historically been cared for solely by subspecialists, such as Oncology and HIV patients. In the face of these demands, hospitalists strive to become Master Clinicians– to be able to diagnose and manage complex diseases, incorporate high-quality evidence, and provideindividualized care in an efficient manner.

Through concise plenary lectures and stimulating workshops our 7th Annual Hospital Medicine Symposium willprovide the necessary knowledge and skills to allow hospitalists to return to their hospitals and deliver care of thehighest quality.

Our faculty consists of nationally and internationally renowned experts chosen to ensure attendees developexpertise in essential topics. Highlights include our keynote speaker, Dr. Jennifer Myers, Patient Safety Officer atthe University of Pennsylvania, discussing how hospitalists can transform the culture of safety at their hospitals;essentials from the new ACCP Anticoagulation Guidelines; a Pearls for Practice series presenting rapid fire lectureson core topics; and our Update in Hospital Medicine session summarizing the most important studies over thepast year.

Our highly rated WORKSHOPS provide participants with a choice of Three Tracksin which to gain expertise. Concentrate in one of these tracks to develop expertise or mix-and-match tracks to experience a greater variety of topics:

(1) HOSPITALIST AS GENERALIST—Enhance skills in core topics such as Pain Management

(2) HOSPITALIST AS SPECIALIST—Learn how Handheld Ultrasound for Bedside Diagnosis may be replacing the stethoscope and develop expertise in Oncologic Emergencies

(3) ENHANCING QUALITY & VALUE—Become proficient in Developing and Implementing Checklists and other key QI topics

Come to increase your knowledge of core topics, learn more of subspecialty conditions, enhance your QI skills, increase your value to your hospital, and network with colleagues. In short, come to continue your quest tobecome a Master Clinician!
