Herd HealthAll cattle will sell with proper interstate healthpapers. All females were calfhood vaccinated. Allsale cattle have been vaccinated with IBR, BVD,P13, Vibro Letpo 5 and eight-way black-leg. All bullshave been fertility checked and all heifers are repro-duction tract examined. All sell guaranteed breeders. All bulls 16 months and over will be fertility tested.Texas is certified free for TB and brucellosis.Bull CareYour yearling bull is a major investment. Experiencehas shown us that yearling bulls can function verywell even under harsh environments. You can counton them to breed 20-25 females depending on theconditions. We have the following recommendations.1. If possible, run your yearling bulls separate fromolder bulls during their first breeding season.2. Make sure that your bulls gain weight in the fallafter the breeding season, before winter.3. Feed energy supplementation (grain) beyond sim-ply grass and protein to your yearling bulls. Avoidfeeding the young bulls in the same pasture witholder or horned bullsSimmental EPD ExplanationsCalving Ease Direct (CE-H) - predicts the averagedifference in ease with which a sire's calves will beborn when bred to first-calf heifers. Expressed aspercentage of unassisted births with a HIGHERvalue indicating greater calving ease.Birth Weight (BW) - expressed in pounds and pre-dicts the average difference that can be expected inan animal's offspring when compared with anotheranimal in the same genetic evaluation. The LOWERthe number the better here.Weaning Weight (WW) - expressed in pounds andpredicts the average differences in weight that canbe expected between the progeny of animals in thesame genetic evaluation of 205 days of age. TheHIGHER the WW number, the more pound weaned.Yearling Weight (YW) - Like Birth and WeaningWeight EPDs, Yearling Weight EPDs are expressedin pounds and predict the average differences thatcan be expected between progeny of animals at oneyear of age. Like weaning weight, the HIGHER thenumber, the more pounds at yearling time.Maternal Calving Ease (MCEH) - predicts the aver-age ease with which a sire's daughters will calve asfirst-calf heifers compared to the daughters of anoth-er sire in the same evaluation. Expressed as per-centage of unassisted births. A HIGHER numberhere indicates a higher percentage of unassistedbirths.Maternal Milk (MM) - expressed as pound of calf
weaned by a bull's daughters. Reflects the averagedifferences in weaning weight than can be expectedin grandprogeny due to the milking ability of a bull'sdaughters.Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW) - This EPD valuepredicts the difference in average 205-day weight ofbull's daughters' calves compared to calves fromdaughters of all other bulls evaluated. The evaluationreflects both the maternal ability of the bull's daugh-ters and the growth potential of their calves. Whencomparing maternal weaning weight EPDs of twosires, the larger maternal weaning weight EPD indi-cates heavier weaning weights due to daughters'ability to produce heavier calves. Maternal WeaningWeight EPD is calculated by: MWW EPD = MMKEPD + 0.5 (WW EPD).EPDs for Carcass TraitsExplanations of the ultrasound measurements are asfollows:MarblingThe difference in marbling score expected in a bull’soffspring compared to the offspring of other bulls inthe population.Yield GradeThe difference in yeild grade expected in a bull’s off-spring compared to the offspring of other bulls in thepopulation. Next sire summary YG EPD’s will beused. These are figured by dividing the percent retailcuts EPDs by -2.3.Carcass WeightThe difference in carcass weight expected in a bull’soffspring compared to the offspring of other bulls inthe population.All-Purpose Index (API)Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bredto both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows)with the portion of their daughters required to main-tain herd size retained and the remaining heifers andsteers put on feed and sold grade and yeild.Terminal Index (TI)Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with alloffspring put on feed and sold grade and yield.

Using the API and TI Indexes for SelectionNearly all breed association have adopted Index EPDs over the past 5 or 6 years to help simplify theselection process and to encourage presenting EPDs in terms of dollars of profit instead of having tointerpret multiple EPDs expressed in pounds or units. Now you can use the index EPD values to pre-dict profit differences between bulls which hopefully you will agree is the goal of seedstock selection.
For Simmental and Semmental Composited seedstock, there are just two, dollar value index EPDsavailable. The All Purpose Index or API, is just that, all purpose. If you plan to keep a bull’s daugh-ters back in the herd as replacements, you should consider using the API as a tool to improve theprofitability of you herd. Traits such as Stayability, Calving Ease, Maternal Calving Ease and Marblingare large componenet of this index but all traits are included based on their relative profitability. Onthe other hand, if you plan to sell all the progeny of your selected bulls in a terminal arrangement, the Terminal Index or TI is your best tool to improve profitability. The TI is heavily affected by growthand carcass traits, but still includes calving ease to a lesser degree.
To compare two sires based on API, the dollar values listed are a prediction of the difference in valueper cow exposed over a sire’s lifetime. This includes his long term impact upon the profitability ofyour herd because of his retained daughters in addition to the value of his calves sold.
Example:Bull A API = $120Bull B API = $100Expect bull A to be enhance profit by around $20 for every cow he breeds in his lifetime compared tobull B. So if bull A he mates 25 cows per year for 4 years, you might expect him to be worth nearly$2000.00 or more than bull B. (25 x 4 = 100 calves 100 x $20 = $2000)Use API and TI to help simplify selection decisions. Then use the individual EPDs and personal pref-erences to determine value and ultimately choose the seedstock that bring the most profitabilitypotential to your operation.
SRS Right On, Nichols Legacy, Bold Future and Big Sky in thispedigree. No wonder API is off the chart. Beef Makers API - thiscalf will also be off the chart. Bred AI Beef Maker. PE R143/28/11 to 6/15/11. Safe to AI.

The patented formula of SweetPro lick blocks features:
Fermentation feed ingredients, rich in Yeast, Enzymes and Volatile Organic Acids (VOA) that improve rumen fermentation, resulting in improved overall digestion and increased feed efficiency of up to 25% or more. Condensed Distillers Solubles (CDS) which provide improved palatability benefits with much higher protein and nearly 10 times the fat as molasses. Safe protein with high “Rumen By-Pass” value. “Complex Carbohydrates” to deliver important energy while minimizing the digestive disruption often associated with starch and sugar. Fortification with Vitamins A, D and E including a balanced blend of organic complexed (chelated) trace minerals to supplement lower quality hay, straw and stover for wintering beef cows and maintaining dry cows.
SweetPro blocks do not contain molasses, do not dissolve in rain, and deliver uniformly year around.
Rick & Deby Reeves Owners of Happy Valley Ranch

“Before SweetPro, we were spending a whole lot more money to provide a comparable nutrition for our cattle.” “The best our first calf heifers have come through was this year...and we didn’t give them nothin’ but the [SweetPro 16] tubs and hay…” Bill Cawley and Scott Pursewell, Manager and Assistant Manager Stalwart Brangus Ranch in Willis, TX
“I’m using 25% less hay and pasture since starting on SweetPro blocks.” “With SweetPro, the weaning is now very smooth, the calves are calm and don’t go back-wards.” “...average 34 days to come back in heat.” “This is the best product I’ve ever encountered.” Johnny Campbell, Rancher, Hallsville, TX
“Our cows are coming in heat 30-35 days after calving. We are having 85-90% conception success.” “[Since adding the SweetPro blocks]...the reproduction performance has been phenomenal.” “We are having excellent gain and greatly improved health after weaning.” Matt Kerns, Manager, 7P Simmental Ranch, Tyler, TX
Blocks leaving SweetPro’s Horton, KS plant
Additional SweetPro products available from Rick are EquiPride and EquiLix50 with
Vitamin mineral digestive aide supplements for horses.
