Mrs. Hallie Scheu, PRINCIPAL
September 7, 2020 Dear Saint Wendel and Saint Francis Xavier Parishioners,
Our parishioners have been so supportive in the past of Saint Wendel Catholic School and we once again need your help! Saint Wendel Catholic School is fortunate to offer the Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) scholarships to students who want to attend Saint Wendel. We continue to have increased interest in this program from school families. Last year, we funded scholarships for 24 students totaling $19,341.00. We hope you will consider making a contribution to this program. The state released $12.5 million in tax credits on July 1, for this fiscal year (July 1, 2020-June 30, 2021). Tax credits for last fiscal year ran out in May, and some predict tax credits will run out before the end of this calendar year. If you are planning to make a donation this year, I encourage you to act soon. Our goal this year is to raise $21,315.00 to cover all students who have submitted applications.
As you are aware, this program supports low to middle-income families who attend Saint Wendel Catholic School and helps with eligibility for the voucher program. This program also provides an excellent incentive for donors through a generous 50% state tax credit.
Indiana's Scholarship Tax Credit Program was enacted in 2009. At that time, only students who entered kindergarten or transferred from public schools to non-public schools were eligible. Fortunately, the program was expanded in 2013, and now all non-public school students whose families fall within the income guidelines are eligible. One of the most important aspects of the program is that it is a pathway for voucher eligibility. As a school, we want to make sure that all students who meet the income guidelines for a voucher can receive one.
The funds for the Scholarship Tax Credit come from private donations. Corporate or individual tax payers can donate and receive a 50% credit against state tax liability for contributions to a certified Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) in addition to their typical federal tax deduction. There is no limit to the amount of the donation as long as the state's cap of $12.5 million in tax credits has not been met. This program is a great opportunity to maximize your charitable giving and reduce your tax liability.
Your donation will help provide the gift of a Catholic education for Saint Wendel students. I sincerely hope you will help us take advantage of this amazing opportunity. If you would like to make an online donation, please go to www.i4qed.org/donate or use the donor form included in this bulletin. Please contact me with any questions at [email protected] or (812) 963-3958. We sincerely appreciate your support. God Bless, Hallie Scheu, Principal
