The first stuff that I started seeing of yours a while ago, was the pictures of the architecture of the city and I was like that is dope because you hear about Detroit having the worst crime. It ain’t even that bad I mean it is but…. But from the outside looking in I have no idea… Of course Chicago has way more but at one time Detroit was the richest city in the world we have that architecture and everything, its not highlighted because the story is now how we’re going through all this because we were at this plateau at one time. Where do you want to end up? Do you want to have a studio or what’s the plan?I want to have galleries. One in Detroit for sure, I want to have one in Chicago, New York and display, it doesn’t have to just be photography, but it could be any kind of art It could be anybody’s work? Yes, anybody’s work and it doesn’t even have to be photography but it could be painting

or whatever, because I have a lot of friends that paint and do other things. Like one month have a performance artist come in or something like that. I just want to have like a hub of inspiration and art in different cities. I want to start of in Detroit because that’s where I was born and raised.A lot of artists go through highs and lows, what do you do in down times?I guess I’d say my only down spell is when I was trying to get a new camera. I was still shooting but at the same time I was like I got to get a new camera. What I tell people, because a lot of people go out and buy these million dollar cameras is to develop an eye. I think it got to a point where the camera that I had wasn’t expressing what I actually see. I needed to invest in a camera that’s really giving me my full potential so saving for it and I wasn’t working last summer, most of last year I wasn’t really working, so I couldn’t really buy anything. That’s another

thing that I like about my job, it gives me the freedom to create what I want and not create to make money and the money will come when it comes period. Last year it was really more of a hustle. Like I really don’t want to shoot this but I’m going shoot this and make my money. If I could get paid to travel and shoot, have an audience that would be the best thing. Street photography, National Geographic, I don’t know, they say National Geographic photographers go through a lot though. I just wants to travel the world and if Nike, Adidas, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, somebody can sponsor and pay me to do it then that would be great. Now you can pick and choose…I cut down on what I do, so I first started my website -fresh cool dope. I wanted it to be like I interview, I create, do this, so I narrowed it to like photography and shooting what I want to shoot. I still shoot the music videos and stuff like that but it’s not nearly like when I first started. I used to interview all my friends but its like alright Justin, pick one thing and concentrate on that. So with the video work, that’s all self taught? Yea, Youtube and making mistakes is the best way. That makes me think of this guy that I follow, Levi Maestro or Maestro Knows.

That’s one of my inspirations. I don’t know if you ever heard of Creative Control, which was my inspiration to get into photography. That’s why with Fresh Cool Dope I’m trying to do all these videos but I realize they had a whole team. I’m doing this by myself. Interviewing people everyday, editing and the site. There is a group that I am a part of in Detroit called 5Yve and its composed of artists and photographers and, we all got the same mission and it’s to shine a positive light on the city.Talk to me about the website Fresh Cool Dope, how did that come about?Honestly, the website was random at first and it was going be a hip-hop blog. That’s when everybody was having all these hip hop blogs and was like, alright then, I’m gone do a music blog. Fresh Cool Dope is always used for everything, what I wanted to do was just take those words that are used in so many broad ways and terms and show them in a different light.Fresh Cool Dope is my brand now.
