STRIPE 1To be promoted, you must earn a 7 or better on your ability to self-control and self-manage each behavior. Staff members who believe you are ready will sign and comment on your stripe paper; staff who believe you need more practice will write an assignment that will help you master the specific behavior. When you successfully complete the assignment, they too will sign your papers, recommending you for promotion. Remember, to be evaluated for promotion you must also meet DRESS CODE requirements (nails clipped, appropriate haircut, shaved, shirt tucked in, no low-riding, neat appearance).

Each item is rated on a ten point scale: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10

• NO RUNAWAY ATTEMPTS: refrains from planning, talking about, or encouraging AWOL; does not leave HCYV or home without permission

• CONTROLS VERBAL AGGRESSION: able to express frustration and anger without cursing, yelling, screaming, name-calling, or threatening others or staff.

• CONTROLS PHYSICAL AGGRESSION: does not push, hit, kick, or punch people with the intention to hurt, harm or destroy.

• ABLE TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS AND RULES: complies with HCYV rules; able to obey staff directions without arguing back or delaying.

• HAS RESPECT FOR OTHERS OWNERSHIP: does not steal, asks for and receives permission before borrowing; turns in to staff anything found.

• HAS RESPECT FOR PROPERTY: does not damage, destroy or deface (write or carve on) property.

• Has to secure approval SIGNATURES from: Caseworker; Supervisor; Lead Dorm Parent; Principal

Stripe 2• SCHOOL BEHAVIOR/GRADES: demonstrates appropriate classroom

behavior, good conduct, completes all assignments, and tries hard.•  SOCIAL SKILLS: demonstrates basic social ability; says “please” and

“thank you”, waits turn, speaks respectfully to adults • POSITIVE GROUP MEMBER: is on time, participates appropriately,

takes turns in group discussion, avoids side-talk or disruptive noises, and pays attention.

• NON-AGITATION: doesn’t pump up or bully peers, able to stay out of other people’s business, and refrains from gossip or spreading rumors.

•  CONTROLS HORSEPLAY: knows when, where and how to appropriately let off energy; able to stop any horseplay when directed by staff.

• BASIC SELF-AWARENESS: able to recognize physical signs inside your body, that let you know your anger is starting to come up (list at least 2 signs)
