The following safety instructions are provided to alert you to precautions which, if not followed, may cause serious injury to yourself or others. Please read these instructions com-pletely. Cross-Tech Manufacturing can not cover every incident that might be a hazard. Extreme caution should be used at all times. Only use Brush Wolf Brush Cutters for the purpose for which they have been designed. Always operate skid steer with a forestry rated door and cab. Safety goggles and hearing protection must be worn at all times.

Site Inspection: Before operation of the Brush Wolf 72 M-AX, carefully inspect the area to be cleared. Remove any items which may be picked up and thrown by the cutting blades; wire, pipes, or rocks. Mark any object too large to move.

Equipment Inspection: Prior to inspection the unit must be disconnected from the skid steer. To inspect or to make repairs under the 72 M-AX deck always block the unit securely in order to prevent accidental release of the lift mechanism. Inspect all hydraulic hoses and shields to ensure they are in good condition and without holes before pressurizing. Hydrau-lic fluid can escape under pressure and may cause serious injury or death. Wear safety gog-gles, ear protection, hard hat, and only operate the skid steer behind shatter proof forestry rated door and cab.

Skid Steer Auxiliary Hydraulic Flow: The 72 M-AX Extreme Duty is only to be used on a skid steer with auxiliary hydraulic flow rated at 30 - 40 GPM (Gallons Per Minute). Any less GPM and the 72 M-AX will not operate at peak proficiency.

Do Not operate within 300’ of bystanders, vehicles, pets, livestock or buildings. Objects may discharge while cutting with the 72 M-AX and has the potential to cause injury or death.

Do Not place hands, feet or other objects under the deck while the Brush Wolf 72 M-AX is in operation. To inspect or perform maintenance under the deck, always shut down the power to the Brush Wolf, shut-off the skid steer engine, disconnect hydraulic hoses, and block the unit.

Do Not raise the mower deck when blades are rotating. Operation with the mower raised will expose the cutting blades and the potential for injury or death.

Do Not allow children to operate a rotary brush cutter. Only individuals with skid steer experience who are well acquainted with the rules of safe operation should be allowed to operate the Brush Wolf 72 M-AX.

Operation Instructions

1. Prior to operation check blades and replace if cracked or damaged. All blades must be re-placed at the same time. Tighten the blade carrier to the bearing housing, blade bolts/nuts, and hydraulic motor mount nuts. Check the hydraulic fluid. A low level could indicate a leak and require a closer inspection of your unit.

2. Connect the Brush Wolf 72 M-AX to your skid steer with the universal quick-tach mount.

3. Once connected, visually check the lock pins to make sure the 72 M-AX is securely locked in place. Do Not operate the Brush Wolf 72 M-AX HF on Low Flow auxiliary hydraulic or any skid steer rated under 30 GPM. All 72 M-AX HF units are designed to operate on skid steers rated with auxiliary hydraulic flow of 30 - 40 GPM. 72 M-AX Standard Flow is rated for skid steers with auxiliary hydraulics of 23 -29 GPM.

4. Inspect the hydraulic couplers and wipe off water, dust or any debris. Dirt and debris can damage hydraulic components. Once cleaned, connect the couplers from the cutter to the auxiliary hydraulic system on the skid steer.

5. Connect the auxiliary hydraulic lines for the brush cutter and case drain to the skid steer. Twist the collars of the quick connect couplers to secure the hydraulic connections.

6. Confirm all safety measures have been completed per the Safety Instructions. Most impor-tantly make sure the area is clear of personnel and pets.

7. Enter shatter-proof cab door, engage seat belt, release brake and start engine. The runners of the 72 M-AX should be as close to the ground as possible. Never raise the 72 M-AX more than seven (7) inches off the ground.

8. Slowly apply hydraulics to the Brush Wolf 72 M-AX and increase the engine speed to high idle. Make sure the unit is operating smoothly before moving the skid steer forward. When temperatures are below zero allow additional time for hydraulic fluids to warm-up.

9. Maintain a speed to handle the volume of brush and to prevent stalling.

10. Stay alert for drop-offs, rocks, holes, abandoned wells and septic tanks. Do not operate or drive across a steep embankment as this may cause a rollover with possible injuries or death.

11. To cut large diameter brush and trees, move forward slowly to make the cut.

12. <IMPORTANT> Proper shut down procedures: lower lift arms, make sure the cutter is placed flat on the ground, shut off the switch for the auxiliary hydraulics, once hydraulics are shut off then slowly throttle down the skid steer, stop the engine, and engage parking brake prior to leaving the cab.

13. To disconnect hoses use proper hand protection as the couplers may be hot.

Maintenance

Your new Brush Wolf 72 M-AX Exteme Duty is a precisely engineered attachment and re-quires little maintenance. The Brush Wolf 72 M-AX is built to strict standards and will deliver years of dependable service by following these maintenance guidelines:

1. Perform maintenance on level surface with the unit firmly on the ground. Shut off the hydraulic power supply and disconnect hydraulic couplers.

2. Check all nuts and bolts for proper tightness. See Maintenance Schedule.

3. Every Brush Wolf is tested at the factory and all nuts and bolts have been tight-ened to specifications. We recommend you check them after the first 4 to 6 hours of operation and at regular intervals as defined in the Maintenance Schedule.

4. Inspect blades for damage before each use. Tighten all the nuts which secure the blades to the blade carrier every eight (8 )hours. Torque to 775 ft - lbs with a 1-11/16” socket on the Drop (3) Blade Carrier. Torque to 275 ft - lbs with a 1-1/8” on the Flat (4) Blade Carrier. The nuts are located under the access plate on the top of the blade carrier. (see Parts Diagram on Page 15 or17 item # 2).

5. Tighten the nuts on the blade carrier at the lower end of the bearing housing. Torque to 380 ft - lbs with a 15/16” socket wrench.

6. Check lubricant level weekly. Remove the bearing housing plugs. If the resevoir is full it will measure within 2” of the plug cap. Loss of fluid could be indicative of a leak. When adding oil use 80 W 90 gear lube weight - DO NOT over fill - too much lubricant will rupture the bearing housing. The bearing housing is full when the oil level is 2” from the plug cap.

CAUTION: Always replace the entire set of blades. Never weld or straighten damaged blades, as loss of blade integrity may result. CAUTION: Replace missing or illegible safety decals immediately. Decals are available at your Brush Wolf 72 M-AX dealer.

Standard Blade Assembly

Drop Blade Maintenance - 3 blades1. Perform maintenance on level surface with the 72 M-AX blocked off the ground. Shut off the hy-

draulic power supply and disconnect hydraulic couplers. 2. Tighten bolts of blades every use or every eight hours. Inspect blades.3. Damaged, bent or dull blades should be replaced immediately. Replace all three blades, and

hardware at the same time. Follow the instructions below.

To Replace Blades:

1. Perform replacement on level surface with the 72 M-AX blocked off the ground. Shut off the hy-draulic power supply and disconnect hydraulic couplers.

2. Remove nuts and washers from plate on the cutter deck to expose access hole. For location of access hole - reference item #2 on the Parts drawing of the 72 M-AX on either page 15 or 17.

3. Through the exposed access hole rotate the blade carrier to line up the nut of the blade for ac-cess.

4. Insert a 1-11/16”socket through the access hole and remove the nut and drop the bolts.

5. Remove blades and pucks horizontally from the brush cutter.

6. Clean new bolts, lock-nuts and washer with cleaner/degreaser. Prior to assembly, ensure all hardware is dry and free of any contaminents including the carrier assembly.

7. Use Primer Loctite on the bolts and nuts according to directions on the label.

8. Apply Loctite #243 to the first 10 bolt threads to ensure coverage.

9. Assemble the new blade, the bolt, washers, and the nut to the carrier. The blade carrier cuts in one direction - counter clockwise.

10. Torque the blade bolts to 775 ft/lbs using a 1-11/16” socket.

11. Confirm the blade carrier rotates freely and is clear of any obstructions.

12. Install the plate to the access hole on the top of the 72 M-AX.

Optional Blade Assembly

Flat Blade Replacement - 4 blades1. Perform maintenance on a level surface with the unit blocked off the ground. Shut off the hydrau-

lic power supply and disconnect hydraulic couplers. 2. Tighten blades bolts every use or every eight hours, and inspect blades for damage.3. The Flat blades are a reversible cutting edge - just turn over the blade - all four (4) blades must

be turned over at the same time. When blades are replaced an entire new set of four (4) blades, pucks, bolts and washers must be replaced at the same time. Follow the instructions below.

To Replace Blades:

1. Remove nuts and washers from plate on the cutter deck to expose access hole. For location of ac-cess hole - reference item #2 on the Parts drawing of the 72 M-AX on page 15 or 17.

2. Through the exposed access hole rotate the blade carrier to line up the nut of the blade for access.

3. Insert a 1-1/8”socket through the access hole and remove 3 nuts for each blade.

4. Pound out the bolt using a drift pin or center punch to prevent damaging the threads.

5. Slide puck and blade out.

6. Clean blades, pucks, bolts, locknuts and washer with cleaner/degreaser. Prior to assembly, ensure all hardware is dry and free of any contaminents including the carrier assembly.

7. Insert the new puck and blade between carrier assembly. Line up with the bolt holes. Note: If the reverse side of the blades have not been used - turn the blade over. All four blades must be turned over at the same time. The blade carrier cuts in one direction - counter clockwise. Worn or dam-aged pucks, bolts, and washers must be replaced in sets.

8. Apply Loctite #243 to first ten bolt threads to ensure coverage.

9. Assemble the bolt, washer, and the nut to the carrier as shown on the opposite page.

10. Torque the blade bolts to 275 ft/lbs.

11. Confirm the blade carrier rotates freely and is clear of any obstructions.

12. Install the plate of the access hole on the top of the 72 M-AX.
