OKLAHOMASooners
The 15th season of the Bob Stoops era at Oklahoma will usher in another new chapter in Sooners history. Stoops owns
a 149-37 mark at OU and is only nine wins shy of eclipsing Barry Switzer for the most victories in school history. Oklahoma is coming off its eighth Big 12 title under Stoops and a second consecutive 10-3 campaign.
Off enseTrevor Knight was named the starting quarterback for the opener against ULM, though Blake Bell is also expected to see playing time. The backfi eld is loaded with talent, led by Damien Williams, Brennan Clay, Roy Finch and Trey Millard, while the receiving corps is another strength with Jalen Saunders, Sterling Shepard, Durron Neal and Trey Metoyer. Four starters return along the off ensive line.
DefenseWith essentially eight starters removed from last season’s squad, the OU defense turns to new faces to take over those spots. There are holdovers in each position group as the secondary will look toward Aaron Colvin for leadership, while the linebackers and defensive line will follow suit with Corey Nelson and Chuka Ndulue, respectively.
Special TeamsMichael Hunnicutt is back for his third year as the team’s primary kicker and boasts a career conversion rate of 84 percent. Jed Barnett looks to fi ll the shoes of four-year punter Tress Way, while Finch, Clay, Shepard and Saunders anchor the return game.
ULMWarhawks
Louisiana-Monroe looks to build off its fi rst bowl appearance in school
history a year ago, when the Warhawks fi nished 8-5 following a 45-14 loss to Ohio in the Indepdence Bowl.
Off enseThe Warhawk off ense is led by quarterback Kolton Brown-ing, who needs 1,000 yards passing this season to become the school’s all-time leading passer. Browning is back at the team’s leading rusher too, though ULM will look to backs Jyruss Edwards and Centarius Donald, both of whom missed time last year due to injury.
DefenseLouisiana-Monroe fi nished with the No. 78 defense in the country a year ago. The Warhawks were strong against the run last year, ranking 39th with an average of 142.2 yards allowed per game, but the pass defense needs to improve. ULM yielded 276.5 yards per game, a mark that ranked 108th in the country. Cordero Smith is the team’s top returning tackler, making 71 stops a year ago.
Special TeamsJustin Manton returns as the team’s placekicker and punter. He was called on nine times to attempt fi eld goals, converting fi ve of those. As a punter, he averaged 39.8 yards per kick, with 17 of his 48 kicks being fair caught and 19 landing inside the 20-yard line. Cortney Davis was the biggest return threat a year ago, averaging 22.0 yards per return, while the ULM returners combined for fi ve punt returns last year.

Bob StoopsOklahoma
Bob Stoops has registered 149 career wins, needing only nine more to surpass Barry Switzer (157) for the most victories in Oklahoma history, meaning the Sooners’ head coach is poised to
attain another historic milestone in 2013. The only head coach to reach all four BCS games and the BCS National Championship Game, Stoops has guided the Sooners to four appearances in a national title contest, claiming college football’s crown in 2000. Of Stoops’ 14 bowl appearances with the Sooners, eight of those games have been of the BCS variety. Along the way, he has picked up 17 coach of the year citations, including eight on the national level (only fi ve coaches nationally have won more conference coach of the year awards), and watched fi ve assistant coaches move into Football Bowl Subdivision head coaching positions.
Over the past 14 seasons, no team from a BCS conference owns more victories or a better winning percentage than Oklahoma (149-37, .801). Under his direction, OU is one of two FBS schools with 11 season of at least 10 wins since 2000.
Among schools from BCS conferences, only Alabama (61) and Oregon (56) have compiled more victories over the past fi ve seasons than Oklahoma (52), while only LSU and Stanford can join those three schools in boasting 10 or more victories in each of the past three campaigns. Two Heisman winners and fi ve Heisman fi nalists have been characteristic of the talent Stoops and his staff have attracted. The off enses have been among the best in college football history (the 2008 team was the fi rst to score 60 or more points in fi ve straight games en route to scoring an NCAA record 716 points). The defense has been stingy and is the only program to produce two players who won the Thorpe and Nagurski Awards in the same season. The son of a coach, Stoops was a four-year starter at Iowa. He began his coaching career in 1983 as a volunteer in the Hawkeye program under Hayden Fry, working through the ranks until he became co-defensive coordinator at Kansas State (1991-95). Eventually, he left for Florida and a three-year stint as Steve Spurrier’s defensive coordinator. It was with the Gators, and a national championship team in 1996, that the spotlight found Stoops and made him one of the hottest names in the profession.
Todd BerryLouisiana-MonroeTodd Berry, a 30-year coaching veteran, is in his fourth season as the head coach of the Warhawk football Team. Berry, who served as the off ensive coordinator from 2004-05, returned to Monroe in December 2009 when he
was hired as the program’s 14th head coach.
Berry was honored as the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year after he guided the Warhawks to an FBS-era best eight wins. Kolton Browning was named the league’s off ensive player of the year, while Brent Leonard highlighted a group of eight all-conference selections as he was tabbed fi rst team all-conference. In three seasons under Berry, the Warhawks have had 19 players named to the All-Sun Belt team.
The Warhawks burst onto the national scene last year with a 34-31 overtime win over then-No. 8 Arkansas. ULM trailed 28-7 in the third quarter before it rallied for the win and garnered Tostitos National Team of the Week honors.
ULM opened the conference season 4-0 to improve to 6-2 overall and reach bowl eligibility for the fi rst time since 2009. ULM’s historic season culminated with its fi rst-ever bowl game as the Warhawks battled the Ohio Bobcats in the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La., on Dec. 28, 2012.
He was reappointed to the American Football Coaches Association Board of Trustees in 2010 and he will serve as the third vice president during the 2013 season. The Board, which consists of 18 head coaches, formulates policy and provides direction for the organization, which was founded in 1922 by Amos Alonzo Stagg, John Heisman and others. The AFCA has more than 11,000 members from all levels of the profession.
Berry was ULM’s off ensive coordinator from 2004-05, where he helped guide the Warhawks to the 2005 Sun Belt Conference Championship and quarterback Steven Jyles to Sun Belt Player of the Year and Off ensive Player of the Year honors.
His fi rst stop in Monroe followed a four-year run, 2000-03, as the head coach at Army. His tenure at Army followed a four-year stint at Illinois State (1996-99) where Berry presided over one of the most remarkable turnarounds in Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) history. The team had not won a conference title since 1950, but under Berry the Redbirds advanced to the NCAA FCS Playoff s in his third season and fi nished in FCS top 20.
Berry is the son of the late Reuben Berry, a former Canadian Football League head coach. Berry is married to the former Lisa Grimes and the couple has two daughters, Jordan (26) and Ryleigh (11).
ACTIVE WIN LISTHead coach Bob Stoops is one of the winningest active head coaches in college football with at least 10 years experience (games at FBS schools only).

NORMAN, Okla. - Josh Heupel threw three touchdown passes and now has 35 in his career to tie the OU school record as Oklahoma moved to 2-0 on the season with a 45-7 win over Arkansas State of the Sun Belt Conference.
After rushing for a score in the fi rst quarter, Heupel hooked up with Damian Mackey on a 26-yard touchdown on the fi rst play of the second quarter. Heupel then found Andre Woolfolk later in the quarter for a 19-yard touchdown as OU cruised to a 28-7 halftime lead.
In the third, Heupel again connected with Woolfolk, this time from 35 yards out to match Cale Gundy’s school record of 35 career touchdown passes. Heupel needed just 13 regular season games to accomplish the feat, while Gundy needed 40.
With Heupel leading the off ense, J.T. Thatcher was giving the Sooners a boost on special teams. He fi nished with a school-record 160 punt return yards, including a 66-yard touchdown in the fi rst quarter, to break Jarrail Jackson’s mark of 146 yards.
The win also marked just the second time in school history that the Sooners had a 300-yard passer (Heupel - 301), 100-yard rusher (Renaldo Works - 109) and 100-yard receiver (Woolfolk - 102).
