Since emailing the news to those on our parish email list (if you are not on the list and would like to join please contact the office) and placing the news on our website and Facebook page, there has been great enthusiasm. Seating is limited to 50 people and there are a number of precautions we need to follow, however I will be offering some extra Masses to accommodate as many people as possible. The sanitising of hands and registration is essential upon entering the church. At all Masses we need to record the names and phone number or email address of all attendees, and to avoid disappointment we encourage people to register for weekend Masses by phoning the parish office. Registration at weekday Masses is done by first sanitising one’s hands and then recording one’s name and phone number or email address in the exercise book located at the entrance of the church. To maximise participation, all Masses are currently at either Kempsey or South West Rocks, and our churches have been marked out with yellow spots to ensure physical distancing and ensure we are able to meet all hygiene requirements. Further essential information is in the memo included as a handout in this week ’s parish news. For the time being, Mass times will be as follows: SATURDAY 9.30AM SWR; SATURDAY VIGIL 6PM KEMPSEY SUNDAY 7.30AM SWR; SUNDAY 9.30AM KEMPSEY; SUNDAY 11AM KEMPSEY TUESDAY 5.30PM KEMPSEY; WEDNESDAY 8AM KEMPSEY; THURSDAY 9.30AM KEMPSEY; FRIDAY 9.30AM KEMPSEY For those involved in liturgical ministries, we are currently preparing the July-September roster. The precautions include spatial distancing being adhered to, including during the distribution of Holy Communion. Therefore there will only be one other person distributing Holy Communion with the priest, and people will line up to receive Holy Communion in single file or have Holy Communion brought to them in their pew. There will also not be an Offertory procession or Gospel procession, no collection plates being passed around (you may place your donations in the designated boxes at the door), and congregational singing is not permitted because of the possible risk of aerosol transmission. As was the case before the lockdown, there is no Holy Water in the fonts, no Sign of Peace and Holy Communion will only be distributed in the hand. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding with this. It is just so wonderful that we can all gather together again as a community, even though it will be with some differences. All of us are encouraged to download the COVID-Safe App developed by the Australian Government. We have received a number of enquiries regarding registration. This is not our requirement but that of the government because should there be a case of COVID-19, health authorities need to trace those present. I am open to feedback, but it would seem fairer if people need to pre-register each week, rather than people being able to have a permanent registration. In the event that one Mass is more preferred than others, then over a number of weeks more people can attend their preferred Mass and if someone is absent one week there is less chance of them having registered and not turning up. Extra Masses have been put in place to cater for as many people as possible, and the Sunday obligation remains dispensed. For those unable to come to Mass, our weekly resources on our website and Facebook page continue to be updated weekly. As always, I am here for you, and we continue to be here for anyone who is homebound, or feeling lonely, or simply needs a chat. We are church together and we are on the journey together. I can’t wait to catch up with everyone, especially those I haven’t seen for a while! Gospel Reflection by Calissa Denaro
(Youth Ministry Officer at St Paul’s College)
The Gospel for today comes from John 3:16-18.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only
Son.” Just imagine for a moment that you are a
mother or a father with one child. Now imagine
giving that child away because you know that they
must die for the world. Even though you know they
will die, you give them away. Imagine the pain and
the hurt you feel. But now place yourself as a
person of the world. How grateful are you? For me,
I have never felt such powerful love for someone
who is willing to sacrifice their only child for me.
How amazing is it that God did exactly that for us.
I’m just another person in the world. But I’m not.
Jesus Christ died for my salvation and God
sacrificed His only child for me.
This whole scripture outlines the mission of God
that He set into motion through the works of Jesus
Christ: “Have eternal life” “world might be saved
through Him” “not condemned”. God only provides
us with His love and generosity shown through the
very sacrifice I’m talking about.
Often, as human begins, we experience times of
negativity where the emotions we feel include
worthlessness, guilt, sorrow, jealousy, anger plus
so many more. When you begin to feel like this,
I challenge you to remember the hardest thing
someone could ever do, the strongest form of love
someone could ever feel, and the most painful
experience one could experience, was done for you.
First Reading: Exodus 34:4-6, 8-9
With the two tablets of stone in his hands, Moses
went up the mountain of Sinai in the early morning
as the Lord had commanded him. And the Lord
descended in the form of a cloud, and Moses stood
with him there.
He called on the name of the Lord. The Lord
passed before him and proclaimed, ‘Lord, Lord, a
God of tenderness and compassion, slow to anger,
rich in kindness and faithfulness.’ And Moses
bowed down to the ground at once and worshipped.
‘If I have indeed won your favour, Lord,’ he said, ‘let
my Lord come with us, I beg. True, they are a
headstrong people, but forgive us our faults and our
sins, and adopt us as your heritage.’
Responsorial Psalm: Daniel 3:52-56. R. v.52 (R.) Glory and praise for ever!
1. You are blest, Lord God of our fathers. (R.)
Blest your glorious holy name. (R.)
2. You are blest in the temple of your glory. (R.)
You are blest on the throne of your kingdom. (R.)
3. You are blest who gaze into the depths. (R.)
You are blest in the firmament of heaven. (R.)
Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 13:11-13
Brothers, we wish you happiness; try to grow perfect; help one another. Be united; live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with the holy kiss. All the saints send you greetings. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
Gospel Acclamation: cf. Apoc 1:8
Alleluia, alleluia! Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit: to God who is, who was, and who is to come. Alleluia! Gospel: John 3:16-18 Jesus said to Nicodemus, ‘God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost but may have eternal life. For God sent his Son into the world not to condemn the world, but so that through him the world might be saved. No one who believes in him will be condemned; but whoever refuses to believe is condemned already, because he has refused to believe in the name of God’s only Son.’

We cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism and exclusion in any form. At the same time, we have to recognize that violence is self-destructive and self-defeating. Nothing is gained by violence and so much is lost. Let us pray for reconciliation and peace.
