Raquel Jaikaran Shivdat bravely carries a pioneering and indomitable spirit towards promoting and sustaining Caribbean culture in the entertainment industry.
With roots in Trinidad and Tobago, a twin-island Republic situated off the northern edge of the South American mainland, Raquel has persevered to consistently achieve the goals and dreams of her late father, Mohan Jaikaran.
Trained under Mohan’s watchful eye, Raquel, the first of four daughters, developed a keen sense of leadership and “street smarts”; qualities that blossomed as she grew older and her responsibilities expanded to include management of the family business portfolios. With growing success came challenges and Raquel has proven her adaptability and resilience in the face of all adversity; she has successfully balanced her roles in the public sphere with her family life. Her education in Fashion Marketing has served her well in strengthening her capacity for creative innovation.
A business woman with incredible savvy, Raquel and her Family artfully managed the iconic Maracas nightclub (formerly Rum Jungle) in Queens, New York; a thriving hub of culture for disaporic connectivity. She produces a quarterly magazine that keeps the world in touch with all things US-Caribbean. As the first born of a media mogul, Raquel has expertly navigated the world of broadcast media in television and radio through WIN TV and WIN Radio 101.1fm –and is devoting her energies in this direction, leaving the management of Maracas to others in the Family.
Raquel rose through the ranks in the family’s business, starting as flyer designer at JMC Records and later working at the family’s Diner. Additionally, Raquel managed to pursue a degree in Fashion Marketing at Berkeley College in New Jersey, while managing her household as a wife and mother of two boys, Tyler and Shane. Ms. Jaikaran produced at least one concert every month involving artists from the West Indies. The biggest names in Soca and Chutney music were regular performers at the Club. Raquel also brought the legendary Indian performers Babla and Kanchan to New York. Ms. Jaikaran also makes regular contributions to charitable organizations and committee projects in New York and has done many fund raisers for various causes at Maracas Club over the years.
Raquel has maintained her humility through charity and giving back to the communities both in the USA and her homeland of Trinidad. At 44, this modern woman has achieved a significant amount, yet for her, “even the sky is not the limit. There is no limit; only possibilities.”

Pamela Lindsay is as fine an example as one could find of what independence and assertiveness in the female species is all about. Her path to ownership of the thriving Trinbago Express Shipping facility in Brooklyn reflects a determination she has manifested from quite young always reach for higher ground, where perhaps convention might deem
such heights unattainable. Passive acceptance of the status quo isn’t and has never been where Pamela is coming from.
Born in Trinidad, Pamela discovered at an early age the importance of self-sufficiency, when circumstances caused her to work, after a fashion, even before she was in her teens. By the time she had completed her primary and secondary schooling, including secretarial school, she already had a pretty good orientation to the world of business and what it demanded by way of dedication and discipline. So much so that she came to appreciate that “success tastes so much sweeter when you work hard for it”.
Pamela’s long-standing connection to the shipping business started when she worked for the A.J. Mauritzen Company in Trinidad. After a few years there, again driven by that independent spirit, she started her own firm, Sealandair Shipping in 1988. When, in the early 1990’s she decided to migrate with her family to the United States, there was little doubt as to where her interests would lie once settled on these shores.
She worked at T&T shipping in Brooklyn. Like clockwork, in due course would come that continuing need of hers to be in her own operating space. Trinbago Express Shipping was born after she put in four years at T&T Shipping. Now in it’s 20th year of operation, Trinbago Express has established for itself a tradition of professionalism, a reputation that obviously was engendered and inspired by the company’s irrepressible leader. Typically, Pamela would be the first to give much credit for such accolades to those in her employ, Which isn’t surprising, given that one of her guiding percepts in business, as in life is that, “you should treat others as you would like to be treated”.
One of the remarkable qualities Pamela has brought to her career in business is her sense that essential to material success is the obligation to be a respected and respectful presence in the community she serves. She places premium stock in this aspect of her role as a business person, as a result of which the sponsorship of innumerable community events and causes has added handsomely to the profile Trinbago Express enjoys. Among those many demonstrations of goodwill, Pamela feels particular pride in a number of scholarships she has awarded to deserving youngsters.
Fittingly, this dynamo has been the recipient of many awards and citations from all manner of organizations. Notably, she has been honored by the City of New York for the exemplary public spiritedness that has been her hallmark over the years.
Pamela has been married for over 30 years to Cirt Lindsay. She is the mother of two: Cirt Jr. and Jernice. And she considers her son and daughter to have been a major part of the inspiration from whence came her enduring commitment to hard work.

Eslene Richmond-Shockley is truly an example of faith, perseverance, obedience and strength. A native of Guyana, South America, she grew up with her grandmother in the Nabaclis Village on the East Coast.
Eslene’s parents and grandparents instilled in her a strong Christian faith. While she recalls growing up poor, memories of her childhood are rich with endless words of encouragement she received from her grandmother. Eslene set out at an early age to be her best in spite of their financial situation. She attended Hindu College until her mother could no longer afford to send her to high school. Eslene decided to go to the Ministry of Education in Georgetown to ask them if they would allow her to attend North Georgetown Government Secondary School. She met an education officer who thought it strange for a child to come to the Ministry alone to plead her case, and with his support she was accepted into the free Government high school and completed her studies there in 1973.
Upon graduation, Eslene worked at Enmore Community Center and then joined the public service and went to work with the Ministry of Economic Development in the Department of International Economic Investments. Over the next five years, she experienced devastating heartache. She lost her loving mother and grandmother in the same year, and her father two years later. In order to have a chance at better opportunities and support her brother and sister, Eslene decided to leave Guyana for the United States to study dentistry. She applied to schools in the United States and in June 1979, was accepted to a dental school in Long Beach, California.
Soon thereafter, Eslene would meet the man who would become her life partner and biggest supporter. Ray Shockley lived in Monroe, Louisiana and was visiting the Washington, D.C. area. After nurturing a long-distance relationship for a little over a year, she moved to Monroe at the end of the school year and married Ray in June 1985. In September, the couple returned to Ray’s hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.
It was always her dream to work for MCI Telecommunications. However, Eslene excitedly embraced her new life and landed her first Atlanta job with Metal Crafters Trading Company. Eventually, she transitioned to what she thought to be her dream job with MCI Telecommunications Company. She lived and breathed MCI and in return, climbed the corporate ladder and reaped the rewards of her dedication and focus.
In January 1994, Eslene was diagnosed with a brain tumor and her world began to tumble. Six months after her diagnosis she was laid off by the company that she had dedicated so much of her life to. Nevertheless, the words of Eslene’s grandmother were brought to mind and after a short stint, she knew she needed to pick up the pieces and move on. So she did.
Eslene became Guyana’s Attaché for the 1996 Olympics. When the Olympics ended, her pastor asked her to assist at the church as a part-time Administrative Assistant. After the 1996 Olympic she formed an International Consulting company GBTS Enterprises as an International Consultant and working with Third World Countries in the Caribbean. In November 1999, Eslene was invited to the White House for a Roundtable Dialogue on the state of Caribbean American Politics; Caribbean Economic Development; Economic Empowerment and Trade. All of these things were good traveling and making big money but she was not always happy. There were some things more that GOD wanted from her and she was not doing it, which was serving His people. Eslene realized the greater reward and gratification from doing “God’s work.” She later became Outreach Coordinator for the ministry and it was during this time that God revealed to her her calling – caring for others. Although she no longer received the large financial compensation she received from work in Corporate America it was the best thing in her life.
She and some friends began planning a joint program with Dodd-Sterling United Methodist Church to organize the first Community Holiday Giving event. Held five days before Christmas, the event was deemed a great success for the community as it provided over 300 low-income individuals with new children’s clothing, food and toys. It was this event, confirmed by a vivid dream that she had in which God told her to “feed my sheep,” that gave birth to the development of the infrastructure for Caring For Others, Inc. in September 2001.

Jean P. Alexander, was born in St. Joseph,
Trinidad and Tobago
and immigrated to New
York City in 1971 with her
entire family. Unaware of
the obstacles she faced
as a new immigrant, Jean was fully cognizant of the
opportunities that existed in the USA, having visited
previously in 1963.
With only homemaking on her resume and not even
a high school education, Ms. Alexander landed a
few low paying jobs before her being employed by
Merrill Lynch and The New York Daily News. While
working full-time and taking care of her large family,
Jean graduated from the Borough of Manhattan
Community College in 1978. She continued to pursue
higher education at Baruch and Hunter Colleges,
both in Manhattan. But it was Jean’s commitment
to hard work and her natural ability to communicate
with people at all levels of many cultural backgrounds
that propelled her career and resulted in her being
selected for increasingly responsible and challenging
positions in public relations and marketing for more
than four decades.
Currently, Ms. Alexander serves as Executive Director
of The Caribbean American Center of New York
(CACNY). Those initial obstacles as a new immigrant
provided the impetus and driving force to co-found
the Caribbean American Center of New York, a
501 © 3, tax exempt non-profit community service
organization that opened in 1987 to the general
public. All services provided by CACNY is free to the
public.
In 1976, Ms. Alexander was recruited by Carlos
Lezama, President of WIADCA to handle Media &
Public Relations and gradually given more and more
responsibilities, handling special events, outreach,
marketing, etc. Jean is presently Director of Marketing
/ Public Relations and Board Secretary for the West
Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA),
producers of one of the United States largest annual
cultural parades (New York’s Caribbean Carnival
(widely known as Labor Day Carnival) on Brooklyn’s
Eastern Parkway).
Ms Alexander divides her time with CACNY, where
the Organization provide free multi-services in
education, including STEM, SAT & Regents Prep,
immigration, internships, scholarships, skills training,
cultural arts, back to school and holiday events and
gifts to thousands of children living in New York City’s
Homeless Shelter System and other needy youth in
New York City.
Jean P. Alexander continues her pursuit of knowledge
– she has earned certificates in management, public
relations, conflict resolution, immigration, securities
investment, etc. She has also earned the appreciation
and respect of corporate and government officials
alike. Ms. Alexander serves on many Boards and is
the recipient of numerous awards, such as the Rev. Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for Community Service,
presented by former New York City Mayor Rudolph
Giuliani, Woman of Distinction from Caribbean
Life, and many others. Mayor Michael Bloomberg
appointed Ms. Alexander to represent him on the
Board of Trustees of the Brooklyn Children’s Museum.
Since her arrival in the USA at a time when there were
virtually no services to assist new immigrants, Jean P.
Alexander has not only raised and educated her five
children, but she has forged a career of her own. For
the last 41 years, Ms. Alexander has devoted most of
her professional and personal energies to giving back
by providing guidance, mentoring, counseling and
opportunities for new immigrants and others. Jean
P. Alexander has fulfilled her American dream and is
making it possible for others to do the same. She is
the grandmother of nine and great grandmother of
four and resides in Brooklyn.

6 FOUNDING PRINCIPLES
www.ionic6.org [email protected] Ionic 6, Inc. is a New York City DOE Vendor. We have programs for all budgets.
Georgia Forbes – Founder & Executive Director Former NYC public school teacher and student of the NYC public education system. She has 10+ years experience in financial services and the
technology sector. She is passionate about education and equipping others for success. Georgia received her Bachelor of Science from New York University in Finance and Marketing and obtained her MBA in International Business and Management Systems from Fordham University.
We have a mission to build educational partners to prepare our students for success. Ionic 6, Inc. (i6) is a New York non-profit 501(c)3 organization that provides programs to expose underrepresented middle school students to STEM, empower parents as educational partners, collaborate with educators to foster creative learning environments and increase minority presence in the critical fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Research has shown that 71% of new jobs are in computing, but our students are not receiving sufficient STEM training and education to be prepared for success in the future. Our programs make STEM concepts fun and easy to understand so that students are excited and actively engaged. The i6 curriculum aligns with the NYS common core learning standards. Our programs help students enhance their ability to be creative, think logically, and build problem-solving skills. Participation helps improve students’ overall academic performance. STEM learning is essential for students. It expands their pipeline of opportunities and broadens their development. Ionic6 provides a robust, modular curriculum. Customize the program to meet your students’ needs and budget. We believe a strong support network is essential to our students’ success. We strive to strengthen the partnership between parents, teachers, the school and community. Ionic6 is your sixth partner in the educational journey.
Every child has the potential to change the world.
