The national tour of the Broadway hit American Idiot will make its St. Louis premiere March 2 thru March 4, 2012 at the Peabody Opera House. American Idiot, a 2010 Tony Award® nominated Best Musical and 2010 Gram-my Award winner for Best Musical Show Album, features the music of Green Day with the lyrics of its lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong. The play is a one-act musical adaptation of the punk rock band’s concept album of the same name. The music was expanded with additional Green Day songs from other sources including one previously unpublished. The book is by Green Day’s lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong and director Michael Mayer.
American Idiot won the Tony Award® for scenic design by Christine Jones and for lighting design by Kevin Adams both of which will be featured in the tour production of the play.
American Idiot is a tale of three boyhood friends Johnny, Will, and Tunny searching for meaning in a post 9-11 world. The story centers on the three disaffected young men fleeing lives stifled by suburbia and parental restric-tions. Johnny and Tunny search for meaning by escaping to the freedom and excitement of the city. Will stays home to work out his relationship with his pregnant girlfriend. With hope embodied by a new generation, American Idiot has delighted audiences since the musical began performances in 2010.
for information on tickets and all other particulars please visit the Peabody opera house web site at www.peabodyoperahouse.com or call 314-622-5454 for more details. The Peabody opera house is located at 1400 Market Street.
